Mark Ling here with part 2 of the Mindset Upgrade Formula the Secret to Becoming a Dream Achiever in every aspect of your life. In part 2 I want to cover the six step process to making your dreams come true, all while using the power of affirmation to reprogram your thinking. Let s jump right in! 3
4 Step 1 Be Committed to Making Your Dreams a Reality Let me get this out of the way first no one else is going to make your dreams come true for you. Like I said in the last report, most of the things you want in life are going to be just outside your comfort zone and if you truly want them, it s up to you to take the next step and put yourself into a slightly uncomfortable situation to make them happen. You need to make a commitment to MAKING your dreams become a reality and form a plan that will lead you there. Once you create that plan, the next step is to FOLLOW it put yourself in a position to succeed in everything you do whether it is to lose a few pounds after the New Year or quit your day job and work entirely online within 6 months. We ll cover more about how you can do this in the next five steps of this process, but know for now that this is the single most important thing you can do in your quest to make those dreams come true. A Difference of Perspectives Over the years I ve spent plenty of hours in self-reflection and one of the biggest differences I notice between myself and my former peers from High School is that I ve always made a commitment to chasing my dreams to make what I truly want from life come true. Now, don t get me wrong. A lot of those peers are in a very good place in their lives and are very happy. I don t mean to say that my life has gone better in any way, but over the course of the last few years, I ve noticed that the former classmates of mine that are not happy tend to have one thing in common they don t strive to make those dreams come true with the same fervor I do. I married the woman of my dreams, have started and operated several multi-million dollar businesses, am fairly decent at the sports I enjoy most and have a beautiful baby boy. I m committed to doing everything I can to make my dreams and goals a reality and guess what? I ve done it. The big difference between planning to achieve and then chasing after your dreams and seeing them as something that would be nice someday is simple it s all about your confidence and ability to push forward when you honestly believe you can achieve your goals. 4
5 This is hard to do if you don t have a plan in motion that you can work towards on a daily basis. Affirmations The following affirmations are designed to help you establish and maintain the mindset needed to successfully commit yourself to making your dreams a reality. Remember to use your Mind Tracks software to program these affirmations and embed them into your belief system. And remember, 5 minutes a day for 90 days: 1. I Am Committed to Making My Dreams a Reality 2. I Always Follow through on My Plans 5
6 Step 2 Develop a Strong Passion for Learning and Self Improvement In life, there are two ways to become successful sheer trial and error, attempting to figure out what the best in the world have done to get there before you, and watching and learning from the best. The fastest and least painful way is the latter and it s how I live my life. If you want to get to that place in life you ve always dreamed, learn from others who are already where you want to be. In simpler terms, always be learning. The Essence of Learning Learning isn t something you do for a short while and then stop. Life is not the same as college. You don t go to a few classes and then graduate with a set of knowledge that prepares you for whatever challenges await. You need to keep learning and keep improving yourself. More importantly, you must be ready to confront obstacles on your path of learning and develop strategies to get around them. The path of learning should be enjoyable, not a chore our primary purpose then is to find ways to make learning not only fun, but easy. Here s a good example. Every day, when I drive home from work, I play an audio book that I download to my iphone. Usually an inspirational book written by an author who is good at something I want to improve in, these books continuously help me learn more about myself and what I want to get out of life. Mind power, business management, positive psychology, and even sports psychology are all topics I greatly enjoy and could learn about for the rest of my life as I aim to continuously improve myself. I ve developed a passion for learning based on incremental improvement. I don t do crash courses. I don t read a book in a single afternoon and then expect to be magically better at everything I do overnight. I work at it for days, weeks, months at a time and slowly improve at the things in life I m passionate about. I ve developed a habit for learning and it is these habits that lead to success. Affirmations If you don t have this belief system in your head yet, and you re not as excited to learn as I am, now is the time to program yourself with the following affirmations 6
7 designed to make you more receptive to the type of learning needed to excel in every aspect of your life. 1. I Have a Strong Passion for Learning and Improve Myself on a Daily Basis 2. I m Good at Learning New Things and Especially at Resolving Tricky Challenges 7
8 Step 3 There Is Immense Power in Repetition I want you to use this fact to your advantage because by repeating key actions, thoughts and affirmations, you can quite literally reprogram how you think and act for the better. I ll say this again because it is so important: Most of the things you want to achieve in life are just outside your comfort zone. Consider the people who excel in things you ve always wanted to do well. Basketball players are incredible shots not necessarily because of some innate talent to toss a ball through a net but because they took the time needed to practice, practice, practice and become exceptional. They used the power of repetition to build those neural pathways of muscle memory and become exceptional at shooting a basketball. You can do this in almost every aspect of your life. It s exactly what we re doing with these affirmations. We are rewiring the brain for certain belief systems through repetition, and using the words of motivational speakers and forward thinkers to discover new ways to be successful. Repetition in thought comes from flooding your brain with the positive ways of thinking used by men and women in the field you re trying to master. And it doesn t happen overnight. What makes repetition so powerful is that it can be used over the period of days and weeks. No one ever gets 100% better at something in a week, but if you work hard at something every day, you can improve by 1% a day for 90 days reaching almost 100% by the end of the third month. Some people never improve 100% in any aspect of their life. They settle into the status quo and what is expected of them doing everything just well enough. You can be better immediately by capturing the power of repetition and reprogramming your brain to truly believe you can do it. Creating Competency with Positive Thinking Any thought put in your mind and nourished regularly will produce results in your life. - John Kehoe 8
9 Nothing could be truer as you set out on the path to success through positive thinking and affirmation. Whatever your goal is in life, whether it is to be rich, marry the perfect partner, have beautiful children or buy your dream home, visualize it and with enough repetition, it will come to pass. On average, it takes 90 days to become consciously competent in a new skill, so we want to tap into that and make sure every one of your goals and affirmations is built on a 90 day timeframe. Even just 60 days is good, but one or two weeks are not enough. It needs to be consistent over time. Affirmations A lot of people tell me that the hardest part about visualization is that they don t enjoy doing it. And like most things that people don t enjoy, they quit fairly quickly. If this sounds like you and repetition is boring or just never quite catches on with you, your first affirmation should be to reprogram yourself to enjoy the process of affirmation. Say it over and over again for 5 minutes over 90 days and you will start to enjoy affirmations in a way that you never dreamed possible. 1. I m a Master of Using Repetition to My Advantage 2. I Love Visualizing My Goals for Five Minutes Every Day 9
10 Step 4 Acknowledge Your Positive Qualities The secret to success in most parts of your life is success. When you succeed in one area of your life, it gives you the confidence to excel in other areas equally well. Imagine how you feel when a dream comes true or when you have a perfect day. These small victories fuel your ambition to make other dreams come true and can work in almost every aspect of your life. Getting Out of Your Own Way The problem is that most people are all too aware of the things they are not good at so much so that they dwell on them. They get so caught up on all the things they do poorly that they forget their strengths. We all have strengths. We all have areas of our lives in which we are just plain awesome. I want you to focus on those awesome skills and talents you have. Being able to appreciate your own positive qualities and achievements is essential to not only building your self-esteem and happiness but it will empower you to radiate more positivity onto others. And remember the power of repetition? If you consistently think of yourself in a positive way, over time you will forget how to be negative. Negativity is a trained frame of mind you aren t born into a state of constant negative thinking it happens over time as you point out all the mistakes you ve made. So, by consciously thinking about the successes in your life, you ll be much more successful at simple positive thinking. Nurturing your own self-image is very important because you will become whatever you constantly think about yourself. Weak thoughts create weak people. Strong thoughts create strong people and miserable thoughts create miserable people. You are what you think. If you want to be happy, you must have happy thoughts. Finding the Positive Qualities in Your Life Some people do an amazing job at recognizing where they excel and how they are unique, but for most of us it is a chore. It takes time and in many cases a great deal of conscious training to make these thoughts a reality. So, what we need to do is sit down for a few minutes a day or even just a few seconds and consider the things that you excel at. By acknowledging your positive qualities and imprinting new self-beliefs that 10
11 encourage positive self-esteem, you create a mindset that will thrive on challenges and opportunities to excel. If you re worried that you don t speak five languages, climb mountains and play three instruments, don t. Your positive qualities don t have to be complicated skillsets. If you have a complex skillset you ve developed over many years, by all means acknowledge it, but for most people this isn t the case. If you don t fall into this category, find anything in life that you can be proud of. Here are some examples: I have great taste in clothes My house is always clean and tidy I bought my wife flowers last week I sponsor a child at Christian Children s Fund I spend lots of quality time with my children I m good at cooking BBQs I helped my child with her homework last night These don t even need to be affirmations all you need to do is sit down and acknowledge these things, recognizing that you are in fact a skilled and talented person with things you can be proud of in your life. Five minutes a day spent recognizing the things you do in life that make you special will allow you feel good about yourself and put you in the frame of mind needed to take on challenges with a positive perspective instead of that incessant negativity. Your brain looks for problems all the time. Every corner you turn, ever piece of mail you receive, every person you run into on the street it s a potential problem and you brace yourself for something to go wrong. What you want to do is get your brain ready for positive thinking. By doing this consciously on a daily basis for a few minutes or even just a few seconds, you ll slowly train yourself to do it unconsciously replacing all those negative thoughts with positive ones. Even just the fact that you re alive, breathing with a roof over your head and food in your refrigerator, is enough to turn the tide in the way you think about your life. Imagine the people who don t have what you have and how fortunate you are in life. 11
12 Sure, you have bills and your job isn t going as you want it, but life could be much harder. We have a nasty habit of immediately ignoring the good things that happen in our lives the moment they happen. You might strive to get married and buy a home for years, but the second it happens, you turn your attention to some new worries. What I want you to do is stop ignoring the good that has happened and instead focus on it using it as fuel to push you toward your dreams. This is a skill a habit that needs to be developed over time to notice your positive qualities and relax, enjoying your place in life. Affirmations While you don t need to affirm those positive qualities every day, you certainly can use affirmations and your Mind Tracks software to convince yourself to take this step on a daily basis: 1. I Have Numerous Positive Qualities and I Acknowledge Them Regularly 12
13 Step 5 Planning is Critical to Achieving Your Dreams Contrary to popular belief, strong willpower is NOT critical to achieving challenging goals such as losing weight, becoming wealthy, winning a competition mastering a new skill, etc. However, planning is. Good planning has two parts: 1. A Directly Implemented Plan, Enabling You to Achieve a Goal Most people, when making goals think of this as the only part of the process. They create a plan and attempt to follow through on it. For example, someone trying to lose weight will probably aim to exercise three or four times a week, go for a 30 minute walk, restrict calorie intake, change their diet or otherwise adjust their approach to eating an exercise. Whatever the goal is, you need a plan to make this happen. Just hoping to lose 12 pounds through exercise isn t enough. When will you exercise? How long? What about diet? There a lot of questions that go into creating an effective weight loss plan. You need a calendar and a clear set of goals that you can strive for. The same is true for other goals like making money online. Your goal may be to make $1,000 per month from a website, but how do you plan on doing so? The more detailed the plan, the more easily you can strive for specific results. 2. Making Desirable Habits Easier to Perform and Making Undesirable Habits Harder to Perform This second part is a step most people either skip or don t think of at all, but it can be the difference between successful and unsuccessful planning. The idea here is very simple but can revolutionize how you approach your goals. I read this in a book recently, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. The idea is that if something takes more than 20 seconds to start, you re far less likely to do it. Achor s example was his guitar. Previously hidden in his wardrobe, he never bothered to pull it out, but when he 13
14 moved it next to his couch, he started to play every day. It took only a few seconds to pick it up and start playing so it was much easier to get started he removed the barriers of resistance to playing his guitar and so he did it much more often. This works just as well in reverse. A recent research study undertook the task of seeing what actions would decrease the frequency with which people chose unhealthy foods in a cafeteria. The first task was to close the lid on the ice cream whenever someone took some. This simple task reduced the number of people who had ice cream with their lunch by half. Simple because it was a hassle to open the container. Another change was to make a separate line for junk food. The line grew long and many people started avoiding it. It was simply easier to grab a healthy meal and the junk food consumption in the cafeteria dropped sharply. Exercising I play a lot of Squash so I ve hired a coach for private lessons. I make sure to schedule very specific times with my Squash coach each week to make sure I actually go. Even when I don t feel like playing, it s much easier to just go and play than it is to cancel. I d feel bad and it would require an explanation unless I m sick, this is too much work. The same can work with a friend or a family member. If someone is expecting you at the gym or on the bike path, you ll be much more likely to actually go meet them. You ll feel bad for cancelling. When I want to run or exercise in the morning, I put my exercise clothes next to my bed. This way, when I wake up, the clothes closest to me (and the ones I ll inevitably put on) are my workout clothes. The next step is actually work out in them. I ve reduced the path of resistance to exercise and am much more likely to do it as a result. Healthy Eating If you want to eat healthier, simply prepare more healthy foods and put them in places that are easy to access when you are hungry. Put junk food on the top shelf, in containers or in the cellar or pantry. Put healthy foods on the counter or in the front of the refrigerator where you ll find them when hungry. If you eat biscuits every day for a snack, stop buying them. When you really want a 14
15 cookie, you ll have to go buy it and will be far less likely to go through with it. Replace them in the cupboards with nuts and fruit (which, by the way are just as good as biscuits J). Learning I ve mentioned that I listen to an audiobook every day on the way home from work. Technology has allowed me to reduce the paths of resistance to doing so many times over. I have an iphone with the Audible app and a monthly subscription so whenever I finish an audio book, I just download the next one on my list and voila, I have another book to listen to in my car. No need to buy CDs from the bookstore or download anything to my PC. Just tap and play. Careful Planning Works What makes planning so extraordinary is that when done properly, you don t give yourself much of a choice. By carefully manicuring a path of least resistance you actually make it hard to fail. It takes a lot of effort to go track down those biscuits and break your diet. It s inconvenient to dig up regular clothes instead of just putting on your shorts to go for a run. You re setting yourself up for success in more ways than you can imagine. Just remember to look for ways to change these resistance paths 20 seconds can make a huge difference one way or another. 15
16 Step 6 Commit Yourself to Greatness This life only happens once so make it the best it can be. Everything you do in life should strive for greatness being just good enough isn t enough. You need to strive to be better and in the result, happier, than you ever imagined. The best part is that with every new belief you imprint on your mind, you ll find the world around you changes to support those new beliefs. As a result, your life becomes a manifestation of your thoughts. This allows you to strive for greatness in ways you never before dreamed possible. You now have the power to live a truly inspirational and miraculous life, and you want to know the best part? It only takes 10 minutes a day to experience truly dramatic results. Affirmations On your path to greatness, I want you to really look inside and consider which affirmations will help you to achieve your dreams. Here are a few more of my favorites: 1. I m committed to achieving personal greatness 2. I m committed to using all that I have to become all that I can be 3. I spend ten minutes every day imprinting empowering beliefs upon my mind 4. I am an inspiration to myself and others 5. I regularly take time to appreciate others 6. I am great the way I am right now 7. Life is exciting and fun 8. There are massive amounts of money making opportunities 16
17 9. Most people are kind and trustworthy 10. I m committed to success and am great at overcoming obstacles 11. I m the kind of person who always follows through 17
18 What s Next? That marks the end of this particular section of the Mindset Upgrade Formula, but we re not done yet. In the next section, I m going to teach you all about wealth consciousness, which is incredibly important if you want to achieve financial success in your life. But, before we take that next step, I want you to do something for me. I want you to be aware that with any goal or dream you have, whether it is to lose weight, learn a new skill, attract your ideal partner, or become financially free It all starts in your mind. You have the power inside right now to achieve personal greatness and to inspire others in ways you never dreamed possible. That alone should be enough to drive you forward to pursue the dreams you ve held on to for so many years. It s time to stop hoping and start achieving.
