3 PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Description of Work SECTION SUMMARY OF WORK A. The Work of this Contract shall include engineering services, fabrication, and delivery of prefabricated glass block and solid phenolic infill panels for a SEPTA station windscreens Related Sections A. Section Submittals B. Section Miscellaneous Fasteners C. Section Solid Phenolic Infill Panels D. Section High-Performance Coatings Anodizing E. Section Glass Block Infill Panels 1.03 Submittals A. All submittals shall be provided under the provisions of Section Submittals. PART 2 NOT USED PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Packing and Shipping A. The infill panels shall be shipped at one time as a complete package, with all components included. B. All components shall be packaged and shipped so as to protect the integrity and finish from any damage whatsoever. C. Label and Key all components and or packaging to the installation drawings. D. The Contractor shall be responsible for any applications/fees/ paperwork associated with any necessary approvals or permits required for roadway access Delivery A. The components shall be delivered at one time as a complete package. Summary of Work of 2

4 B. Delivery shall be made to SEPTA's work site only when the site is ready with suitable space for storage and provisions to protect materials during construction. C. SEPTA shall be given 72 hour notice prior to shipping Installation A. Site installation shall be done by SEPTA work forces. END OF SECTION Summary of Work of 2

5 PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Description SECTION SUBMITTALS A. This section covers all submittals including shop drawing submission and concurrence requirements, along with installation drawings and further complements the requirements of the Agreement. Make submittals required by the Contract Documents, (utilizing the attached transmittal form) and revise and resubmit as necessary to establish compliance with the specified requirements. B. Submittals that are not required will not be reviewed by SEPTA. C. The Contractor may require subcontractors to provide drawings, installation diagrams, and similar information to help coordinate the Work, but such data shall remain between the Contractor and the subcontractors and will not be reviewed by SEPTA unless it is required by other pertinent sections of the Specifications Related Work A. Section Glass Block Infill Panels 1.03 Quality Assurance A. Coordination and Submittals 1. Prior to making each submittal, the Contractor shall carefully review and coordinate all aspects of each item being submitted. Shop drawings of systems containing closely related items and components must be submitted as a single submission showing the interrelationship of the components required for that system. 2. The Contractor shall verify prior to submission that each shop drawing is well-prepared and that the submittal conforms in all respects with the specified requirements. The drawings shall provide complete information regarding proper fabrication and installation. 3. The Contractor shall sign each submittal and affix a stamp with specific written indication that the Contractor has satisfied all responsibilities under the Contract Documents with respect to review of the submission. 4. Shop drawings shall be tailored to the specific project need including coordination of various trades and should include material descriptions, quantities, dimensions, design criteria and similar Submittals of 7

6 data to enable SEPTA to review information as required. The shop drawings must show clear and complete information for the fabrication and installation of materials. 5. Orient the plan(s) on the shop drawing(s) in the same manner as the plans on the Contract Drawings. 6. Shop drawings with reproduction(s) of the Contract Drawings will not be accepted. B. Responsibility: The Contractor is solely responsible and accountable for: 1. Means, methods, techniques, sequences and procedures, construction including fabrication, assembly, installation/erection, safety precautions and programs incidental to any submittal reviewed and approved by SEPTA. 2. Accuracy of all submittals and shop drawings and final installation. 3. Arranging submittals and shop drawing standards meetings with SEPTA and/or the Project Manager. 4. Numbering all submittals. Architectural product numbers shall be preceded with an A, likewise Structural products with an S. All re-submittals shall have an R and the number of the resubmission at the end. Example: A001, A-001-R Substitutions A. Or Equal Substitutions 1. Restricted Items: Where items of equipment and/or materials are specifically identified in the Specifications or on the Drawings by a manufacturer's name, model or catalogue number, only such specific items may be used. When several materials are specified by name for one use, the Contractor may select any of those specified. Materials specified by manufacturer s trade name shall comply with the manufacturer's printed Specifications and data. 2. Equals Considered: Whenever a material or article required is specified or shown on the plans by using the name of the proprietary product or of a particular manufacturer or vendor, any material or article which will, in the opinion of SEPTA's Project Manager, perform adequately the duties imposed by general design will be considered equal and satisfactory provided material or article so proposed is of equal substance and function in SEPTA's Project Manager's opinion. It shall not be purchased or installed without SEPTA's Project Manager's written approval. "Or Equal" requests will be considered only when substantiated by the Contractor's submittal of data documenting the "or equal" nature of material or article within ten (10) calendar days after the date of receipt of Notice to Proceed. B. Substitutions for Unavailability 1. Substitutions (may) be considered when a Product becomes unavailable through no fault of the Contractor. The Contractor shall document each request with complete data substantiating compliance of proposed Substitution with Contract Documents, or there is a clear benefit to SEPTA including cost. A request constitutes a representation that the Contractor: a. Has investigated proposed product and determined that it meets or exceeds the quality level of the specified product. b. Shall provide the same warranty for the substitution as for the specified product. c. Shall coordinate installation and make changes to other work which may be required for the Work to be complete with no additional cost to SEPTA. d. Shall waive claims for additional costs or time extension which may subsequently become apparent. Submittals of 7

7 1.05 Submittals e. Shall reimburse SEPTA for review or redesign services associated with re-approval by SEPTA. A. SEPTA s action for submittals will be indicated as follows: NO EXCEPTIONS TAKEN PROCEED AS NOTED: REVISE AND RESUBMIT FOR RECORD DO NOT PROCEED: REVISE AND RESUBMIT REJECTED NOT APPLICABLE B. Contractor shall submit shop drawings, installation drawings, catalog cuts, samples and substitution(s) for SEPTA review and approval. The Contractor shall coordinate between the contractor/fabricator/detailer and SEPTA and the Project Manager for each complex submittal requiring detailed coordination. C. Submittals will be reviewed by SEPTA. D. Submittals not in compliance with the Contract will be returned to the Contractor for revision. Any loss of time and additional costs associated with re-submittal(s) will the Contractor's responsibility. E. Each submission and re-submission shall give specific written notice on the transmittal of each variation that the shop drawings or samples may have from the requirements of the Contract Documents and, in addition, shall cause a specific notation to be made on each shop drawing submitted for review and approval of each such variation. F. Each re-submission(s) shall clearly identify and make specific notation(s) on each shop drawing concerning the: 1. Changes that are made as a result of SEPTA s Project Manager comments on the previous submittal(s). 2. Changes that are not made, but commented on by SEPTA s Project Manager on the previous submittal(s). The Contractor shall provide detailed explanation and justification as to why SEPTA s Project Manager's comments are not addressed. 3. Changes that are solely made by the Contractor, but not commented on by SEPTA s Project Manager on the previous submittal(s). The Contractor shall provide a detailed explanation and justification for such changes. 4. Each item being resubmitted shall have an R placed at the end of the submission number and shall also include what resubmission this is, such as 01, 02, etc. G. Submittals that are "Proceed as Noted" by SEPTA s Project Manager are for the purpose of expediting the fabrication of the intended work. The Contractor shall incorporate all corrections and resubmit to SEPTA the required copies of drawings within 10 days of the "Proceed as Noted" action. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 Shop Drawings Submittals of 7

8 A. Scale and measurements: Shop drawings shall be made accurately to a scale sufficiently large to show all pertinent aspects of the item and its method of connection to the Work. B. Types of prints required: 1. Shop drawings shall be submitted in the form of (4) black line prints of each sheet. 2. Blueprints will not be acceptable 3. Xerox copies or PDF files will not be accepted. C. Review comments will be shown on one set of the drawings and will be returned to the Contractor. The Contractor may make and distribute such copies as are required for its purposes Installation Drawings A. Installation Drawings shall depict the various shelter components and how they are to be erected / installed. 1. The drawings shall be keyed to the component packaging. 2. The drawings shall call out type, quantity and spacing of all fasteners to be used and where. 3. The drawings shall call out the type of backer rod, caulk, sealant, etc. to be used and where. 4. Drawings notes shall be clear, descriptive and reference the components and packaging keying. 5. Provide a phone number and contact on the drawings for SEPTA installers to call for support if needed. 6. Reproductions of the shop drawings will not be accepted Manufacturer s Literature (Including Catalog Cuts) A. The Contractor shall submit only the original printed literature and product data sheets available from the manufacturer(s). B. Where contents of submitted literature from manufacturers includes data not pertinent to the submittal, the Contractor shall clearly show which portions of the contents are being submitted for review, if not clearly shown, the submittal shall be returned. C. The Contractor shall submit the number of copies, which are required to be returned, plus 3 copies for SEPTA's use and distribution Samples A. The Contractor shall provide sample(s) identical to the precise article proposed to be provided. Identify as described under "Identification of submittals" below. B. Number of samples required: 1. Unless otherwise specified, the Contractor shall submit samples in the quantity which is required to be returned, plus one which will be retained by SEPTA. 2. By pre-arrangement in specific cases a single sample may be submitted for review and, when approved, be installed in the Work at a location agreed upon by SEPTA. Submittals of 7

9 PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Identification of Submittals A. The Contractor shall consecutively number all submittals under "Transmittal". (The Contractor shall use attached submission transmittal for all submissions.) 1. When re-submittal(s) is made for any reason, the Contractor shall transmit under a new letter of transmittal with a new transmittal number. 2. On re-submittals, the Contractor shall cite the prior transmittal number(s) under "submission number". B. The Contractor shall maintain an accurate submittal log for the duration of the Work, showing current status of all submittals at all times. The Contractor shall make the submittal log available to SEPTA for review upon request Grouping of Submittals A. Unless otherwise specified, partial submittals shall not be permitted. The entire package shall be numbered, grouped and submitted under one transmittal. B. Partial and poorly prepared submittals will be rejected by SEPTA s Project Manager as not complying with the requirements of the Contract. The Contractor will be liable for delays so occasioned Timing of Submittals A. The Contractor shall package and send submittals within 30 days of the Notice to Proceed. B. In scheduling, the Contractor shall allow 10 calendar days for review and processing by SEPTA s Project Manager following its receipt of the submittal. This review time will be increased for the submittal(s) that are so extensive 10 calendar days of turn around period is unreasonable as determined by SEPTA and the Project Manager. This determination shall be binding on the Contractor. C. Continued submission of material and repetitious submittals which clearly fail to meet the requirements of the Contract Documents which may cause delays in the completion of the Contract and any such delays be the sole responsibility of the Contractor SEPTA s Review A. Review and Processing by SEPTA shall not relieve the Contractor from responsibility for errors, which may exist in the submitted data. B. Revisions: 1. The Contractor shall make required revisions as noted on initial submittal. 2. If the Contractor considers any required revision to be a change, it shall so notify SEPTA as provided for in the "Agreement". Such notification shall be made no later than 10 calendar days from the date of return of such submittals by SEPTA or its Project Manager to the Contractor. Submittals of 7

10 3. The review of the shop drawings waives the original contract requirements of the Contract Documents only if the Contractor clearly states and highlights the proposed deviation in a prominent fashion on the shop drawing itself, and only as specially stated in writing by SEPTA, that the Contract Document requirements are waived. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 Infill Panel Fasteners A. Infill Panels to Steel Windscreen Frames (by others): 316 Stainless Steel Tamper Resistant Tek- Screws sized for steel thickness and strength. 13 2.02 General Fasteners A. Bolts, screws and other fastening devices shall be of approved types as required for the strength of the connections and shall be suitable for the conditions encountered. Washers shall be of the same metals as the fasteners. B. Exposed fasteners shall be 316 series stainless steel and shall utilize stainless steel washers with neoprene seals. C. Exposed fasteners shall be of a vandal resistant design, requiring specialized tools for assembly. D. Concealed fasteners shall be stainless steel (per ASTM F593 & F594). E. All fasteners shall be supplied by the fabricator/supplier. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Shipping A. 14 PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Description SECTION SOLID PHENOLIC INFILL PANELS A. This section includes fabrication and delivery of pre-cut, framed solid phenolic infill panels as specified herein. B. The contractor shall supply all materials and labor for a complete project, which shall include, but not necessarily be limited to solid phenolic panels, anodized frame, stainless steel fasteners, caulks, tapes, and other items required for a complete structural and watertight installation References A. 15 1. Submit for review and approval, a scaled mockup of system: 18"x18" min. Mockup shall show a corner aluminum sub-frame assembly fastened into a solid substrate on two sides. Substrate need not be steel HSS. Mockup shall show material finishes, fastener pattern, sealants, backer rods and shims between grid system and substrate as well as any shims or tape between aluminum frame and phenolic panel. Approved mockup shall serve as quality standard for final construction. Refer to notes and drawings this sheet. 2. Submit (3) 6" samples of each type of glazing tape, caulk, backer rod, and stainless steel fasteners. 3. Submit (4) copies of shop drawings: a. Shop drawings shall include plans, elevations, sections and details of the system. All welds, sealants and anchor details shall be clearly indicated. b. Note gauges of brake metal, finishes of frames and hardware and dimensions (if applicable) of work to be performed by other trades. c. Label fastening devices as to type and spacing. 4. Product Data - Submit (4) copies of each of the following: a. Product literature, catalog cuts, MSDS and specifications for grid system, foam tapes, backer rods, sealants and fasteners. b. Submit proposed manufacturer's catalog cuts and specifications that clearly illustrate and describe the submitted wall system. c. Provide installation instructions for setting the panels into the structure. d. Provide manufacturers' standard finishes and color information for all products for the SEPTA Project Manager to select from. D. Quality Assurance Submittals: Submit the following: 1. Test Reports: Submit certified test reports showing compliance with specified performance characteristics and physical properties. 2. Certificates: a. Qualification Certificates: Submit certificate indicating compliance with qualification requirements in Quality Assurance article. b. Product certificates signed by manufacturer certifying materials comply with specified performance characteristics and criteria and physical requirements. c. Manufacturer's Instructions: Manufacturer's installation instructions. d. Warranty: Warranty documents specified herein Quality Assurance A. Qualifications: 1. Manufacturer Qualifications: Manufacturer producing product in ISO 9001 certified facility, capable of providing field service representation during fabrication and approving application method Delivery, Storage and Handling A. General: Comply with the boiler plate of the purchase requisition. B. Delivery: Deliver materials in manufacturer's original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact. 16 1. Protect components during fabrication and packing from abuse, stains, discoloration, and corrosion. 2. Provide protective interleaving between contact areas of exposed surfaces to prevent abrasion during shipment, storage, and handling. 3. Group panels by type and color and mark boxes and containers accordingly. 4. Ship to SEPTA location as shown on purchase order. C. Storage and Protection: Store materials protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions, at temperature and humidity conditions recommended by manufacturer Warranty A. Project Warranty: Panels shall be warranted for a ten (10) year period against color loss and loss of specified physical and mechanical properties of the panel specified when the product is fabricated and installed in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. B. Manufacturer's Warranty: Submit, for Owner's acceptance, manufacturer's standard warranty document executed by authorized company official. Manufacturer's warranty is in addition to, and not a limitation of, other rights Owner may have under Contract Documents. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 Solid Phenolic Wall Panels A. Acceptable Manufacturer: Trespa North America, or Approved Equal B. Acceptable Products: Trespa Meteon Panels, Solid Phenolic Panels with color face on both sides, or approved equal. C. Performance Characteristics 1. All materials must be class "A" fire resistant rated. 2. All materials must not be affected by moisture. 3. All panels must be vandal and graffiti resistant. Graffiti removal with common cleaners shall have no effect on panel finish and or color. 4. Panel colors shall be UV stable. D. Quality Criteria 1. Modulus of Elasticity: 1,200,000 psi (8000 N/mm2) minimum per DIN Tensile Strength: 13,000 psi (90 N/mm2) per DIN Flexural Strength: 16,000 psi (110 N/mm2) minimum per DIN Surface Impact Resistance: 9 lbf (40 N) index minimum per EN (11). 5. Scratch Resistance: 0.79 lbf (3.5 N) index minimum per EN (14). 6. Fire Performance: Maximum flamespread index of 5 per ASTM E84 (Type I, Class A). 7. Smoke Development Index: Water Absorption: Less than 1.0% per EN (7). 9. Porosity: Nonporous surface and edges. 10. Microbial Characteristics: Will not support microorganic growth. 11. Cleanability: Resists dirt pickup and is easily cleaned. Solid Phenolic Infill Panels of 5

17 12. Color Stability: 4-5 grey scale per ISO 105 A02-87 (3000 hr xenon lamp test) Sub-Framed Infill Panel A. The sub-frame shall be composed of extruded aluminum members (6065 or 6105, T-5 or T-6). The framed infill panel shall be designed to slip into and fasten to a steel windscreen frame. Provide 1/8 neoprene gasket material to isolate the aluminum sub-frame and the steel windscreen frame. B. The extruded members shall have no sharp edges. C. Dissimilar metals shall be isolated from each other using gaskets or other suitable materials to protect against galvanic reactions. D. Fasteners 1. Bolts, anchors and other fastening devices shall be of approved types as required for the strength of the connections and shall be suitable for the conditions encountered. Washers shall be of the same metals as the fasteners. 2. All fasteners shall be 316 series stainless steel and exposed fasteners shall utilize stainless steel washers with neoprene seals. 3. Exposed fasteners shall be of a vandal resistant design, requiring specialized tools for assembly. 4. Fasteners shall be stainless steel tek screws. Refer to section for details. E. Finish 1. Refer to Section Color shall be clear anodized. F. Sealant 1. #795 as manufactured by Dow Corning Corp W. Salzburg Rd. Midland, MI 48686, (989) , or approved equal. 2. Sealant color shall be clear. G. Foam Tape 1. VHB Series 4952, Low Surface Energy Double Sided Foam Tape as manufactured by 3M, 3M Center, St. Paul, MN , (888) , or approved equal. H. Backer Rods 1. All construction seals shall be backed by self-expanding closed cell polyethylene rods oversized 50% of joint width of a type recommended by the sealant manufacturer as being compatible with the sealant Fabrication A. Fabricate solid phenolic infill panels in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and approved submittals. B. The system shall be designed to be watertight at design pressure. Only condensate water shall be allowed to appear on the interior or framing members Solid Phenolic Infill Panels of 5

18 C. All phenolic panels shall be framed in a two-piece extruded aluminum sub-frame that will fit into the steel windscreen opening(s). Provide gasket material to isolate the dissimilar metals of the subframe and windscreen frame. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Shipping A. Take care to package so as to protect the phenolic infill panels and aluminum sub-frames from damage during shipping. All aluminum shall be protected with strippable film. B. Package, label and ship products to SEPTA as outlined above and in the boiler plate of the bid documents Installation A. Installation shall be by SEPTA work forces Field Quality Requirements A. 19 PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Description SECTION HIGH PERFORMANCE COATINGS - ANODIZING A. The work of this section consists of anodizing the fabrication(s) as shown on the drawings and described herein. B. The Contractor shall be responsible to assure that all metal is free of all contaminates, and has been properly prepared for anodizing. C. The Contractor shall be responsible for all materials and labor as required for a complete finished system Submittals A. The Contractor shall be responsible for supplying all manufacturer s technical data and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) sheets on all preparation and products used. B. The Contractor shall supply (1) finish sample, 12 square and/or long which will show adequately the quality of finish. The final delivered product s finishes shall be judged against this sample Quality Control A. The Prime Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating all component finishes, and shall assure that the components / fabrications are packaged and shipped properly to assure that the finish is not damaged while in storage and / or in transit. B. The Prime Contractor shall assure that anodizing shall not be permitted on contaminated and / or blemished surfaces. All anodizing shall be free of drips, runs and splatters. The anodized finish must meet architectural finish standards or it shall be rejected. C. If different Sub-Contractors are required, then the Prime Contractor shall be responsible to assure a complete and coordinated finish. D. During the drying process the aluminum shall be protected from damage by individually hanging, bracing, laying, and / or standing to assure that the surfaces are not marred and that surfaces do not stick to adjacent surfaces. All items shall be dried for a period long enough to assure that the surface can withstand stacking prior to bundling. All items shall have spacers placed between adjacent components to assure damage does not occur during storage and / or shipping. 22 B. Solid Glass Blocks 1. Submit (2) samples of each type of standard glass unit illustrating size variations, design, and face pattern. These samples may be used in the mock-up. 2. Submit (4) copies of manufacturer's product data. C. Glass Block Grid System 1. Submit for review and approval, a full-scale mockup of grid system: 18"x18" min. Mockup shall show at least one complete opening of aluminum grid members fastened to a solid substrate on two sides. Substrate need not be steel HSS. Mockup shall show material finishes, fastener pattern, sealants, backer rods and shims between grid system and substrate. Mockup shall include at least (1) glass block unit. Approved mockup shall serve as quality standard for final construction. Refer to notes and drawings this sheet. 2. Submit (3) 6" samples of each type of glazing tape, caulk, backer rod, and stainless steel fasteners. 3. Submit (4) copies of shop drawings: a. Shop drawings shall include plans, elevations, sections and details of the system. All welds, sealants and anchor details shall be clearly indicated. b. Note gauges of brake metal, finishes of frames and hardware and dimensions (if applicable) of work to be performed by other trades. c. Label fastening devices as to type and spacing. 4. Product Data - Submit (4) copies of each of the following: a. Product literature, catalog cuts, MSDS and specifications for grid system, foam tapes, backer rods, sealants and fasteners. b. Submit proposed manufacturer's catalog cuts and specifications that clearly illustrate and describe the submitted wall system. c. Provide installation instructions for setting the grid system into the structure and for setting the glass units into the grid system. d. Provide manufacturers' standard finishes and color information for all products for the SEPTA Project Manager to select from. D. Manufacturer of aluminum grid system shall provide back-up engineering calculations, which support their system design per conformance to code and design criteria as described in the specification and drawings. All support data including but not limited to shop drawings and structural calculations must be prepared and sealed by a Pennsylvania licensed structural engineer. The support data, shop drawings and calculations must be submitted to SEPTA for review and approval prior to fabrication Quality Assurance A. The manufacturer for this project must demonstrate experience in the manufacture of aluminum framed systems of the general type and function as shown on the contract drawings and specified herein Delivery, Storage and Handling A. All glass block infill panels shall be factory assembled. Glass Block Infill Panels of 5

23 B. Prior to delivery, verify that steel frame openings and grid system dimension are compatible for installation. C. Verify that field conditions are acceptable and are ready to receive work prior to delivery. D. Package, label and deliver all components in marked containers/boxes with all items keyed to installation layout drawings and instructions. E. Provide protective film on all aluminum grid pieces. F. Provide sufficient packing and protection to minimize damage during shipping and handling 1.07 Warranty A. The manufacturer of the grid system shall provide a warranty for five years against frame failure. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 Materials A. Glass Block Infill Panels 1. Solid Glass Blocks a. 8"x8"x1 1/2" Clear, Solid Glass Blocks. b. Glass Block Units shall not have the additive Mirabilite or any other element that may cause discoloration from environmental conditions. 2. Glass Block Grid System a. Pre-Assembled Series 2100GL GridLock System as manufactured by Extech-Voegele, 200 Bridge St., Pittsburgh, PA 15223, (800) , or approved equal. b. The contract drawings are based on a modified version of the Easy Grid System as manufactured by Extech-Voegele; as a means to establish a set of minimum standards and quality. Other systems may be acceptable and shall be considered. c. The structural grid shall be composed of extruded aluminum members (6065 or 6105, T-5 or T-6). Once the grid and glass block units are assembled they shall be structurally drawn together using a stainless steel threaded rod at key locations to hold the blocks and grid system together for shipping and installation. The threaded stainless steel rod shall be an integral part of the finished design/system and the entire assembly shall be fabricated at the factory. The grid and glass block panel system shall be designed to slip into and fasten to a steel windscreen frame. d. The extruded members shall have no sharp edges. e. The horizontal and vertical members shall fasten to each other in a manner that requires no tools, or simple hand tools. Site welding shall not be accepted. f. The leading edges of the grid extrusions shall be recessed 1/4" max behind the faces of the glass units on the exterior side. g. The leading edge of the grid extrusion shall not project more than ½ beyond the face of the block on the opposite face. h. The grid extrusions shall not have a face width of greater than 3/8. i. Dissimilar metals shall be isolated from each other using gaskets or other suitable materials to protect against galvanic reactions. Glass Block Infill Panels of 5

24 3. Fasteners a. Bolts, anchors and other fastening devices shall be of approved types as required for the strength of the connections and shall be suitable for the conditions encountered. Washers shall be of the same metals as the fasteners. b. Exposed fasteners not covered by glass block shall be 316 series stainless steel and shall utilize stainless steel washers with neoprene seals. c. Exposed fasteners shall be of a vandal resistant design, requiring specialized tools for assembly. d. Fasteners shall be stainless steel tek screws. Refer to section for details. e. All fasteners for the glass block infill panels shall be supplied by the system manufacturer. 4. Finish Refer to Section a. Color shall be clear anodized. 5. Sealant a. #795 as manufactured by Dow Corning Corp W. Salzburg Rd. Midland, MI 48686, (989) , or approved equal. b. Sealant color shall be clear. 6. Foam Tape a. VHB Series 4952, Low Surface Energy Double Sided Foam Tape as manufactured by 3M, 3M Center, St. Paul, MN , (888) , or approved equal. 7. Backer Rods a. All construction seals shall be backed by self-expanding closed cell polyethylene rods oversized 50% of joint width of a type recommended by the sealant manufacturer as being compatible with the sealant. 8. Gaskets a. Gaskets shall be TPV foam with a polyethylene jacket as manufactured by Amesbury or approved equal. Gaskets must be factory installed. Field installed gaskets are not permitted Fabrication Performance Characteristics A. Integral Grid Framing 1. Design, engineer and fabricate per IBC for a basic wind speed (3 sec. gust) of 95 mph, Exposure Category B, Importance Category II. 2. Design of framing system shall provide for expansion and contraction of component materials caused by a surface temperature range of -10 degrees F to 120 degrees F, without causing excessive buckling stresses on the glass block infill, failure of joint seals, undue stress on structural elements of the structure or any reduction in system performance. 3. The system shall be designed to be watertight at design pressure. Only condensate water shall be allowed to appear on the interior or framing members. 4. The system shall be designed so as to allow the replacement of any one block in (2) minutes or less including removal of existing glass unit and replacement without the use of special tools, sealants or solvents.
