2 Paletas de fresa (Strawberry Popsicles) Ingredients: 4 cups strawberries, hulled 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup fresh lime juice 1 cup water To make: *Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth *Pour into popsicle molds or ice cube trays. If using ice cube trays, after popsicles have begun to set, stick popsicle sticks in trays and cover with saran wrap. *Freeze completely and enjoy! *Cultural note: Paletas are extremely popular in México and can be made with a wide variety of fruits. 4 Bingo Make a Mola A jugar Bingo en el carro! Gana el primer jugador que tacha 4 en raya. (Copiar el tablero para todos los jugadores) Molas are fabric tapestries made in Panamá and Colombia, with the fabric layered to create the designs. Choose one full size piece as your background. *Draw a basic design, such as a fish, bird or flower on a white piece of paper & cut out to use as a template. Trace onto one piece of colored paper & cut out. Then, trace the shape again two or three times, each time making the shape larger by 1/4 inch or so. These will be layered on top of one another. *Choose 2-3 pieces of paper for the background & cut them slightly smaller (each one smaller than the next) to create a layered background. *Cut out additional pieces of colored paper to add details such as fins for a fish, designs for the background etc. *Glue all pieces together in layers & you are done! Play Bingo on a roadtrip! First to get four in a row wins! (make extra copies for all players.) 3 4

5 Printing, Assembling, and Using Your Minibook To Print and Assemble 1) Print PDF file of minibook 2) At copier, print double sided copies of book. You may need to invert the second side of each page as many copiers will print the backside upside down if you do not. See next page for numeration when copying. 3) Fold book in half and staple together. When copying minibooks, the numeration is as follows for double sided copying (you will need to set your copier to 1 to double sided or single sheet to double sided ): For a four sheet pdf minibook: Cover page on one side; pages 1, 6 on the backside Pages 5, 2 on one side; pages 3, 4 on the backside For a six sheet pdf minibook: Cover page on one side; un-numbered page, page 9 on the backside Pages 2, 7 on one side; pages 8, 1 on the backside Pages 4, 5 on one side; pages 6, 3 on the backside Mundo de Pepita, 2015

6 Summer Spanish Fun is a great way to encourage and foster Spanish and Hispanic culture outside the Spanish classroom. Send a copy home with each student at the end of the school year! *This minibook features six activities to continue and reinforce learning over summer vacation. Before sending home with your students, talk about the activities with your students, especially the cultural ones such as the paletas, rayuela, and molas to provide additional context. You can also provide links for families in a newsletter to parents for more learning and resources. *Note on Bingo game: This is perfect for a road trip! All players have a copy of the bingo board and as they spot items on the board, they mark the space with an x.
