Systemic Seismic Vulnerability and Risk Analysis for Buildings, Lifeline Networks and Infrastructures Safety Gain WP 6: Validation Studies Vienna Test Case D. Schäfer, VCE A. Bosi, VCE T. Gruber, VCE H. Wenzel, VCE SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Vienna - Overview Vienna Population: people Total Area: 414,89 km² Number of Districts: 23 Land Usage: Buildings (12%) Gardens and Parks (28%) Transportation (13%) Forest (18%) Agricultural Usage (15%) Water (5%) Test Area Population: 8415 people Total Area: ~ 1 km 2 Building Usage: Residential SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Building Identification Procedure The first things to be filled in are the name, date, time and the building identification number as well as the address and the photo documentation. The next important parameters are the Building Usage and the Construction Year. The next objective is to fill in the construction type and the number persons which could be affected during an earthquake. The above part of the procedure is dedicated to the Ground Plan, the Elevation and the Façade of the Building. The last section of the protocol covers the secondary structures, the overall condition of the building and eventual anomalies or irregularities. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March

Building Identification Procedure The above part of the procedure is dedicated to the Ground Plan, the Elevation and the Façade of the Building. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Building Identification Procedure The last section of the protocol covers the secondary structures, the overall condition of the building and eventual anomalies or irregularities. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Building Identification Procedure About 600 buildings have been assessed and the data is stored in a database. Out of these 600 buildings about 250 buildings have been measured and eigenfrequencies have been computed. A BRIMOS Recorder is positioned at the last floor of the building. The measurement is carried out for about 10 minutes and captures the ambient vibrations of the building. With these measurements the eigenfrequencies of the building in longitudinal and cross direction can be calculated. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Computation of Eigenfrequencies Längs_fft_g Längs_fft_max Längs_fft µg Quer_fft_g Quer_fft_max Quer_fft µg Hz FFT Spectrum of Building Nr. 17 Longitudinal Direction Hz FFT Spectrum of Building Nr. 17 Cross Direction Two Examples of the calculated FFT Spectrum from which the eigenfrequencies of the buildings can be determined. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
Statistical Evaluation With all these measurements statistics can be done. This example shows the dependency of building height to the actual period of the buildings. SYNER-G Final Workshop, Milano, March
OOFIMS Preparation of data Detailed Data on Buildings Creating Census Tracts SCD 1 SCD 2 SCD 3 Through a macro in an excel file, the user can choose which of the buildings should be unified in a census tract and the necessary attributes are computed and displayed.
