Take a peek inside to see reviews, articles, interviews, poems and lots more even some pictures of the team! This has been a busy term here in the LRC and all things bookish ; we have been busy with the SSBA (Southern School Book Award) books, with girls from year 9 avidly reading the selection of five books, we are now approaching the time for voting the favourite all ready for the presentation evening at Roedean School in January. The year 7s have been reading the books for the 6-Up club, and another event in January will see the six middle schools involved coming to Davison for a session discussing the first three of the books. And finally, the students from year 7 and 8 involved in the Inter-school literature quiz have started revising their chosen book and author.more about these books inside from Estelle. 3 Issue 34 PAGE 3 Christmas is coming Christmas is coming they merrily sing, Church bells ring ding dong ding ding, A merry pattern to fill the nights, As people turn on all the Christmas lights, Colours and shapes now fill the sky, Showing Santa where to fly. Christmas is coming they happily say, A positive message to brighten your day, Decorations prepared, piled up near, People begin to sing and cheer, Christmas fills everyone's minds, And grumpy neighbours pull down the blinds! Christmas is coming people cry, As fireworks fill the cold night sky, And people at home get ready to say, Hurrah hurrah it's Christmas Day, And then it's here; it's finally come, As people wake up to a cold winter sun, Christmas is here, they merrily munch As they eat through a warm Christmas lunch, Mince pies stand near on the best china plate, And hungry little boys are told to wait, Till everyone's finished and ready to say, Hurrah hurrah it's Christmas Day! 7 Issue 32 Page 7 Sorry: A Story by Henny Sonnemann-Petty There was once a young boy, barely old enough to talk. Yet by the age of 1, he discovered his special powers. It wasn t much but he thought it was best kept hidden. Now this was a lot for a boy at the age of 1 to take in, so it wasn t long before he decided to tell someone. However, as most sensible people in this story think magic isn't real, no one believed him. And also, he couldn t talk, so no one understood him. So, off this little boy went, causing mayhem that no one could understand. It wasn t until he went to school that someone believed him. A little girl named Iris met him on their first day and as the boy shared his story with her, she slowly began to believe him. However, it wasn t until she betrayed his trust that the boy started to wonder about her story. Being, a lovely, sweet, understanding, forgiving boy, he decided to forgive her for betraying him. Although he still didn t trust her fully, he decided to find a bit more about her. So off he went, in search of Iris's history and he wondered as he was searching about her if, maybe, she was hurt. Whilst researching Iris's past, he found that indeed she was hurt. Inside. But the boy didn t understand emotions, so he left it. That was not a good idea. Without knowing, he uncovered something he shouldn t. Iris never wanted anyone to know that she was hurt, because she had spent her whole life hiding everything, building layers and friends to trust. One day, the boy told Iris what he had found. Unsurprisingly, she reacted quickly but not in a normal way. She just got up and strode away. And that was it. Until, the following Tuesday when Iris approached the boy sitting in a corner. A simple word changed the world for him. And she said it. Sorry.

9 Issue 34 Page 9 LIFE DOESN T END WITH DEATH: Chapter 1, Part 2 Mabel Mabel Grudgingly I opened my eyes, immediately I remember. The tower the wall the colours Logan Logan LOGAN. Oh no, ohhhhh noooooo! No no no noo. I realise I m screaming a loud piercing scream, it enveloped me. I m uttering the scream but it felt like the scream was uttering me. I can see Sam cowering in the corner of the, of the what? Wait where the hell am I! Oh my gosh this is bad, really bad. Suddenly, I hear his voice and back away, I m right against the wall now. I think I could push through the wall after all I am a ghost. I push and push and push I m not moving it s like I m not a ghost anymore. I scream. Logan comes closer, Mabel, it s me don t be afraid. I m not going to hurt you... I don t believe him, I will not because I can see the evil glint in his eyes, it s sharp as a blade. Then Sam recovers and throws himself at Logan. Battering him to the ground. Mabel run! Sam cries. And I run and run and run. *** I m in a garden of roses, I don t think I m in Big Ben anymore, I think I ve travelled to somewhere else entirely. I ve been running round a maze for what feels like hours. I m out of breath as well. I thought ghosts didn t get out of breath and they don t run either. What are you doing here? says a voice from behind me. I turn round and floating there a ghost and all is an old, ancient women. The years have aged her but her eyes are young and full of life.
