This continues in 3 minute increments until no further bids are received for that item. If you bid with 4 minutes left the closing will still be in 4 minutes. These Zinc tokens were formerly listed as Lead with the "g" designation but it has been determined the Zinc is a more appropriate classification. Aside from a few New York City merchants most Zinc tokens were struck for collectors and did not hold up well in storage often developing a white layer of corrosion; this is a happy exception Turban Head IOU 1 Cent struck in Zinc what used to be called Lead. The Federal Government, A National Currency, Free Trade and Human Rights Two rare and underrated dies, just the fifth example of this variety we have seen offered and not included in the Tanenbaum collection. An EF+ sold for $1, in our November 2004 sale. From the Mark Glazer and Jack Detwiler collections, the Glazer pedigree is so noted on the NGC holder though called 57/473 in error. ( ) 22-58/58 a R10 NGC AU55 BN Single Die Doubleheader Indian Head signed L. Roloff large 24mm Single Die Doubleheader struck in Copper and believed to be Unique. One of the rarest types of Civil War tokens and a specialty of Patriotic token collector Mark Glazer who assembled the largest collection of these by far. These are normally thought to be the work of idle hands at the manufacturer. A token was struck uniface against another blank planchet or smooth surface then flipped over and struck again in the same manner. This usually results in the side first struck being somewhat squashed or distorted as on this example. They can also result from an odd set of striking errors which would normally result in the same type of appearance. We sold a NGC XF45 example of the equally rare 87/87 in our July 2014 sale that realized $1,485 in spirited bidding. From the Mark Glazer collection and so noted on the NGC holder. ( )

The obverse die is very rare with this being its most frequently encountered combination. The popular reverse die is rare in its own right. A Raw EF+ brought $1,500 in our February 2014 auction. ( ) 26-71A/76A d R10 NGC MS63 20% Bright and well struck and 1864 John Stanton Indian Head Doubleheader struck in Copper Nickel and believed to be Unique. Both dies are exceedingly rare in the Patriotic series. The 71A die is only known in one other variety 71A/76 in Brass also unique while the 76A is also only in one other variety 76A/522 in Copper an R9. We sold the only 76A/522 a we have seen offered a Raw MS63 in our February 2014 sale that realized $3,500. Each of the other three compositions of this die combination are also Unique. One of the rarest types of Civil War tokens. These are normally thought to be the work of idle hands at the manufacturer. A token was struck uniface against another blank planchet or smooth surface then flipped over and struck again in the same manner. This usually results in the side first struck being somewhat squashed or distorted as on this example. They can also result from an odd set of striking errors which would normally result in the same type of appearance. Very rare die in the Patriotic series. We sold an NGC XF45 example of the equally rare but of a much more common die 87 in our July 2014 sale that realized $1,485 in spirited bidding. Very rarely seen above VF and many have some sort of problem, mainly stray counterstamps. We sold a similar raw piece in our August 2015 auction which realized $450. The only use of die 452A in the Patriotic series and quite rare. The plate for this die in the current Fuld Patriotic book is actually a picture of store card. The picture was borrowed from plates used in Fuld's Store Card book as close study of the two will indicate. When we last offered this example nearly 20 years ago it caused quite a stir and brought $7,001 with spirited bidding in our April 2000 auction. It snagged and sunk in just ten feet of water south of Portland Missouri on November 18, Formerly TN600E-9a now listed under Cincinnati as the location of David Gibson & Co. its owner and original base of operations.
