2 HUNGARIAN / ENGLISH INTRODUCTIONS FLASH CARDS Teachers Notes: This is an excellent resource suitable for people learning Hungarian or Hungarian speakers learning English. This pack includes: Coloured flash cards with key introductions, vocabulary and useful phrases in both English and Hungarian. The corresponding words are produced side by side. Flash card games and ideas. Print these to use for language games. We recommend that these cards are laminated.

3 Flash Card Ideas This pack contains sets of flash cards for teaching and learning Hungarian or for Hungarians learning English. They are suitable for individuals and small groups. Cards can be printed out and are ready to be cut out. Laminating them will make them last longer. Select the required cards, or use them all, depending on the game being played and the age and/or ability of the pupils. These can be used with the corresponding English flash cards to reinforce vocabulary. They can also be useful for display. FLASH CARD ACTIVITY AIMS: v To learn, memorise, clarify and reinforce Hungarian/English vocabulary. v To elicit responses from pupils. v To vary class work through stimulating, fun and interesting activities. The cards can be used for pupils of all levels of ability, for whole class, large or small groups, as well as for a stimulating activity and incentive for early finishers. v To teach pupils to work together and interact in groups. SOME SUGGESTED GAMES TO PLAY: Whole class or group game: Draw the word or phrase: Small group game: Matching activities: Example: hold up or read out the Hungarian (or English) word cards. Pupils individually, in pairs or in small groups write down the meaning. Pupils try to make a quick sketch of the word or phrase heard, within a time limit. Line up Hungarian cards. The teacher calls out the word in English or native language, or holds up the English card. The first pupil to say the correct word in Hungarian then chooses the next card. This can also be played in the reverse language. Pupils individually, in pairs, or in small groups, match the correct word cards. Memory Games: *The English and Hungarian cards should be placed facing downwards on the table. Players turn over two cards at a time. If the cards match they keep the cards, if not, they turn the cards back over again and the next player has a turn. The game finishes when all the pairs are found. The player with the most pairs wins. Noughts and crosses: Stick 9 or 12 of the English cards on the board. Take the card away when it has been named in Hungarian and replace it with a nought or cross. The winning team has the most 3s in a row. This can also be played in the reverse language. Lotto: Pupils choose nine of the English words. Read out the words in Hungarian. Pupils turn the cards over if they match the words. When all nine words are called, pupils shout Lotto! This can also be played in the reverse language. Snap: Use the word cards to play the game of snap. * Kim s game. Word cards are placed facing up. One card is removed and pupils have to work out which is missing.
