I am not making a profit on them and explicitly prohibit others from doing so. That being said, all you wonderful quilters please use them to create quilts for yourself and others. 2 Fabric Requirements B1* B2* Color 1 Color 2 Focus Lap - 51" by 51" 2 yd 1 1/4 yd 3/4 yd 1/2 yd 1/4 yd or (4 patches that measure 6.5" unfinished) Twin - 69" by 87" 4 yd 1 3/4 yd 1 1/2 yd 1 yd 3/4 yd or (17 patches that measure 6.5" unfinished) Full - 87" by 87" 5 yd 2 yd 2 yd 1 1/4 yd 3/4 yd or (24 patches that measure 6.5" unfinished) King/Queen - 7 1/4 yd 2 1/4 yd 3 1/4 yd 2 yd 1 1/2 yd or (40 patches that measure 6.5" unfinished) 105" by 105" *B1 and B2 are background colors 1 and 2 Pre-Sewing It is much easier to make this quilt if you construct all of the flying geese and HST units in advance. All flying geese measure 2 by 3.5 unfinished. The wings are cut at 2 unfinished, sewn on the diagonal to the center goose unit. The center unit measures 2 by 3.5 unfinished. There are many methods for creating flying geese. Choose your favorite. 3 Constructing your HST Units: All half square triangles should measure 2 unfinished. There are many methods for making half square triangles. 4 Making the star Star blocks measure 9.5 unfinished. Lap 5 Twin 18 Full/Queen 25 King 41 Step 1. Cut or assemble these units. Color 1 Background 1 FSG1 Lap Twin Full King/Queen Assembling your units Please pay close attention to the PRESSING PATTERN. Step 2. Sew two of the flying geese to either side of the 3.5 square. 5 Step 3. Sew a 2 Color 1 square to either side of the other flying geese units. Press to the outside. Step 4. Sew the sections from Step 1 to either side of the sawtooth star unit. 6 Assembling your units Please pay close attention to the PRESSING PATTERN. Step 6. Sew a 2 B1 square to either side of all of the flying geese (FG2) units. Press to the center. Divide in half. Step 7. Sew a 2 Color 1 square to either side of half of the units from Step 6. Press to the center. Step 8. Sew units from Step 6 above to opposite sides of your sawtooth star units. 7 Step 9. Sew units from Step 2 above to opposite sides of your sawtooth star units. Press to the center. Pressing Pattern All seams around the outside edge of this block should be pressed to the center. Block #2 Snowball Block Unfinished size 9.5 Free Pattern-Part 1 7

8 Step 1. Cutting Directions 6.5 square Focus Fabric Color 1 Lap 4 16 Twin Full King/Queen Please pay close attention to the PRESSING PATTERN. Step 2. Sew a 2 square of Fabric 1 to each corner of your Focus Fabric at a 45 degree angle. Trim each corner leaving a ¼ seam allowance. Press to the outside. You should have the following number of 6.5 square snowball units. Lap 4 Twin 17 Full/Queen 24 King 40 Free Pattern-Part 1 8

9 Step 3. Cut or assemble these units. HST1 B1 FSG2 Lap Twin Full King/Queen Step 4. Sew a 2 HST unit to either side of ALL of your FSG2 units. Take care to have the HST units and FSG2 units in the correct direction. Press to the OUTSIDE. Step 5. Sew a 2 square of B1 to either side of HALF of the units from Step 4. Take care to have the HST units and FSG2 units in the correct direction. Press to the OUTSIDE. Step 6. Sew remaining units from Step 4 to either side of your Snowball Block from Step 2. Take care to orient these units in the right correct direction. Press to the INSIDE. Free Pattern-Part 1 9

10 Step 7. Sew units from Step 5 to either size of your unit from Step 6. Press to the OUTSIDE. Pressing Pattern All seams around the outside edge of this block should be pressed to the center. Block #3 Make 4 Corner Blocks Unfinished size 12.5 by 12.5 Free Pattern-Part 1 10

Make 4 units of each size. Use a Color 1 Square and a Background 2 Rectangle. 2 by by 5 Place a 2 square of the Color 1 fabric on the top of each rectangle. Sew a diagonal line from TOP LEFT to BOTTOM RIGHT of each square. Trim and press. Step 3. Sew these units together. Make 4. 2 by by 8 Free Pattern-Part 1 11

13 Blocks #4a, 4b and 4c Border Block - These blocks border the star blocks. Blocks 4a and 4c border the star blocks and are next to the corner blocks. 14 Step 2. Make HALF the quantity needed (see chart above). Place a 2 square of the Color 1 fabric on the top of each rectangle. Sew a diagonal line from TOP RIGHT to BOTTOM LEFT of each square. Trim and press. Step 3 Make the other HALF a mirror image. Place a 2 square of the Color 1 fabric on the top of each rectangle. Sew a diagonal line from TOP LEFT to BOTTOM RIGHT of each square. 15 Step 4. Units Needed Sew your components together taking care to have your flying geese point in the correct direction. Free Pattern-Part 1 15

24 Step 10. Make this unit using a 2 by 6.5 rectangle of B2 and a 2 square of Color 1. Sew the square at a 45 degree angle to the rectangle. Trim and press. Step 11. Make this unit using a 2 by 6.5 rectangle of B2 and a 2 square of Color 1. Sew the square at a 45 degree angle to the rectangle. Trim and press. Step 12.
