12 HAVE YOU EVER SUBMITTED A SAMPLE OF YOUR PHRAGMITES FOR IDENTIFICATION? Yes, I have submitted samples to Cornell Univ. for phenotype ID. Yes, I have submitted samples to the Chicago Botanic Garden study. I have not submitted samples, but I will now that I know this is an option. No, I have not submitted samples.

14 18 ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE LISTING OF PHRAGMITES Concerns about riparian habitat Some had observed infestation and destruction elsewhere Support for State helping ID and map populations Complex management needed once invasions occur; we should tackle now since populations still small Support for more educational materials and outreach Some wondered if Colorado had enough potential habitat for a statewide Noxious Weed listing
15 CLEAR THAT GENETIC TESTING NEEDED Contract established with CSU in Spring, 2017 CSU established internal genetic testing technique Contract for up to 200 samples Cost slightly less than other options Deliverables include a comprehensive genetic map of native vs. non-native Phragmites Call for sampling 3 s sent over course of summer Sampling Form (1 per site) 2-3 samples per site Supply List & Protocol Sample taken from suspected exotic stand, off HWY 139 in Rio Blanco County
16 SUPPLY LIST AND PROTOCOL Supply list for taking samples: Small Ziploc baggies (2-3 per site; snack or sandwich size) Sharpie to write sample number on Ziploc baggie (county_sitenumber_samplenumber) Moistened paper towels to wrap around samples Field Sample Forms (1 per site; up to 3 samples per form) Clipboard and a pen Mobile phone with EDDMapS West App or GPS device Small cooler to keep the samples from overheating (optional)
17 SUPPLY LIST AND PROTOCOL Preform collections on Monday or Tuesday Find site; collect GPS and/or EDDMapS West data Fill out form Create site name: Jurisdiction_SiteNumber_SampleNumber For example: MesaCounty_101_1 or CityFortCollins_402_2 Write entire name on sample baggies Collect plant samples: Collect 1 full, young leaf from the top of a stem. Wrap the leaf in a moist (not soaking) paper towel. Place the sample in the corresponding Ziploc bag. Collect 2-3 samples per site standard. 2-day delivery or overnight to CSU *If collecting over multiple days, store in fridge to keep fresh
