Dinsmore, adviser Dissertation title: Reproductive decisions of Mountain Plovers in southern Phillips County, Montana M.S., Animal Ecology Iowa State University (December 2008) Dr. Stephen J. Dinsmore, adviser Thesis title: Incubation behavior and dispersal patterns in the Mountain Plover (Charadrius montanus) B.A., Biology, Political Science (Minor in Environmental Studies) Luther College (May 2004) Dr. Tex A. Sordahl, adviser Senior thesis title: Temperature-dependent sex determination in reptiles PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT TEACHING: Resident Scientist, 7 th Grade, Brody Middle School, Des Moines, IA. Fall 2011 June 2013 As part of the National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellowship I taught Science one day a week in a classroom in Des Moines. I develop science activities for the students and create lesson plans to be used in the Des Moines Public Schools. Instructor of Record, Ecological Methods, Iowa State University, Fall 2009 (AEcl/Biol 371) A required course for Animal Ecology undergraduates majoring in the Wildlife option that introduces students to many of the techniques used in ecological research as well as statistical analysis of ecological data, sampling, population estimation, and geographic information systems. Lectured for two hours a week and supervised a teaching assistant. Lab Instructor/Guest Lecturer, Ornithology, Springs 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 (AEcl/Biol 458) Students learn about biology, taxonomy, evolution, ecology, and behavior of birds. Labs included field trips, examining specimens, and field techniques such as distance sampling and capture/handling. Gave lectures on avian systematics, speciation, breeding systems, vocalizations, eggs and incubation, and migration. Skrade - 1

2 Lab Instructor/Guest Lecturer, Ecological Methods, Spring 2007, Falls 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 (AEcl/Biol 371) For the lab portion of this course students learn how to collect, analyze, and present ecological data, field techniques such as radio telemetry and distance sampling, and how to use software such as Program MARK and ArcGIS. Lab Instructor, Natural History of Birds, Spring 2006 (AEcl 363) Students learn to identify by sight and sound birds of Iowa and understand how birds relate to their environment and to other members of Class Aves. Lab Instructor, Vertebrate Biology, Falls 2005 & 2006 (AEcl/Biol 365) Students learn about vertebrate evolution, diversity, morphology, and ecology through examining preserved specimens, performing dissections, and collecting data about behavior, form, and function. Lab Instructor, Insects, Humans, and the Environment, Luther College, Spring 2004 (Bio 112) Assisted with lab set up and instruction for a science course for non-science majors. RESEARCH: Research Assistant, Iowa State University, Summers , Springs 2008, 2011, Fall 2010 Studying the breeding biology of Mountain Plovers (Charadrius montanus) in north-central Montana with Dr. Stephen J. Dinsmore (Dept. of NREM). Duties include nest-searching and monitoring, banding and taking morphometric data of birds, collecting and analyzing blood samples, video monitoring, radio telemetry, deployment of geolocators to examine migration patterns, and survival and population analysis using Program MARK. Mentored undergraduate assistants and directly supervised them in field, laboratory, and analytical activities. Research Assistant, Luther College, Fall 2004 Summer 2005 Worked with Dr. Tex A. Sordahl (Dept. of Biology) on an observational study of use patterns and behavior at the Decorah Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) roost. National Conference for Undergraduate Research/Lancy Scholar, Luther College, Summer 2003 Performed a correlation study of wind speeds at two sites: a potential wind farm site and a location where two years of wind data had previously been recorded, advised by Dr. Dale M. Nimrod (Dept. of Chemistry). Skrade - 2
