5 Lessons Learned From 1/8 in. Depth Grooved High Build Waterborne 3+ years performance at 1/3 to 1/5 cost of durables Dirt and water accumulation not an issue on higher speed roads No vehicle loss of control Maintainable (can be refreshed-4 applications) UDOT forces can do it 5

18 Lessons Learned Paint not adhering to patches or polished surface Will change spec to require diamond blades spaced at 1/8 to provide better adhesion 18

19 Lessons Learned 3M Element not used for test because of higher cost and proprietary nature. 3M required: Own paint Own elements Own certified installer Now cost has come down and is no longer proprietary, so they will be included in next test. 19

20 Summary/Conclusions Gives increased options of bead types and gradations because plows will not wear them as easily Can be installed easily with State forces or local contractors Now becoming part of operational decisions Will be installing more on other surfaces under different condition Now 3 low cost wet night options using high build waterborne paint 20
