Some may may believe that goldstone is a natural crystal, however, it is manmade. It is a blend of glass and copper. Goldstone is said to be the master healer. The process of making goldstone was discovered in the early 1600s, during the renaissance. There are numerous stores about the creation of goldstone. One story is about how copper dust accidentally fell into molten glass at a glass factory in Murano, Italy. Another story is about an Italian monk who was making glass and some copper filings spilled into the mixture. A third story is about Italian monk alchemists who were experimenting. A prevalent story says French monks discovered how to make goldstone. Perhaps the discovery was made in multiple locations. The rights to this process was granted to the Miotti family in Venice, Italy in the 1600s. The story I liked was one I read years ago and it explained how this was the stone that defied the laws of physics which is why the alchemists kept it a secret. It went on to say how glass melts at 1,700 odd degrees Centigrade and copper melts at about 1100 degrees Centigrade. The copper powder instead of melting when mixed into the much hotter molten glass kept its shape without melting. In light of the Miotti family process this story seems unlikely. Goldstone was the magical stone because the copper precipitated back into tetrahedrons. Many believe the experimentation by the alchemists was the attempt to turn lead into gold. Some say alchemy represented the changing of baser or lower frequency materials into a higher state of vibration. Just like we can attain higher states of consciousness and vibrate at a higher frequency. The process of creating goldstone was a highly guarded secret for centuries. Today, goldstone is said to be made under low pressure, a mixture of silica, copper oxide, and other metal oxides to reduce the copper ions to elemental copper. The vat is sealed and kept at a constant temperature, allowing the 1

2 copper to precipitate from solution without oxidizing. When it is time, the batch is cooled, and the goldstone is removed from the vat. Then it is cut and shaped into numerous forms. The best goldstone is found in the center of the vat. Some say the process was discovered in an Italian monastary and the first name for goldstone was awenturina, which means adventure. Other names for goldstone are monkstone, red sandstone, purple sandstone, aventurine glass, stellaria, star stone and monk's gold. The most common color is a reddish brown to orange (the color derives from the copper), blue to purple (adding cobalt or manganese), and green (adding chromium). The amazing metaphysical properties of goldstone derive from the mixture of glass and copper. This combination makes goldstone a seemingly magical, energy crystal. Glass is an amazing material and one of the most ancient known to be used by man. The first glass was natural obsidian and it was shaped into knives, arrowheads, jewelry, and more. Glass objects created by man date to 4500 BC in Mesopotamia. The energy of glass is unique. It is a form that uses all four elements in its transformation. The silica is earth and it is melted with fire. Fire needs air to burn. Fire gives off water as it burns and the silica becomes a liquid. The silica passes from a solid, to a liquid, and it becomes the solid form we call glass. Glass is used to focus light to start fire, it permits light to pass through it, and in modern technology it carries light through strands thinner than a human hair. If you color glass, the light and glass carry the vibration of the color. Glass vibrates with the energy of transformation. Copper is an ancient healing material used for over 10,000 years. It is said to be the first metal used by man. It is an essential nutrient in all animals and many plants. In the bloodstream it is a co-factor in enzymes. The Romans used copper for multiple medical purposes. The Egyptians used it for wound sterilization. The Aztecs used it for sore throats. The Persians and Indians used it for eye infections, boils, and ulcers. Too much copper is poisonous and fatal to some organisms. Copper is an antimicrobial agent. Today, many use copper bracelets for arthritis and skin related problems such as wrinkles and blemishes. The use of copper speeds the healing time of wounds. It is said to ease arthritis pain, increase blood flow, strengthen the circulatory system, strengthen bones, and reduce inflammation. Today, it is an ingredient in eye shadows. Copper peptides are used to stimulate hair growth and it is used as an aid in hair transplantation. Because copper effects the melanin in the body, we tan, so it is used in sun tanning lotions and even aftershave. Metaphysically copper creates passion in some people, some get excited, and some get restless. Copper helps one accept, forgive, and love. It creates harmonic connections and it helps align, amplify and transmit energy. It restores the energy balance in the body. Copper dispels self imposed restrictions and helps to set you free. Some believe it is a harbinger of good luck. It is said to help recover lost or stolen properties. 2

3 Red goldstone creates positive attributes. It is a stone of ambition and drive. It is perfect to motivate and help you attain your goals. It energizes and vitalizes as it calms and stabilizes the emotions. It is uplifting and it stabilizes moods. It is an excellent protector with properties similar to obsidian because of the high silica content. Some use it for long distance healing as well as an energy generator. As a protector, some use it to deflect unwanted energies. It is said to renew strength, encourage faith, induce happy thoughts, as it grounds and protects you. Blue goldstone is perfect for learning and rational, calm, communication. It creates a wisdom that bring about empathic sensitivities. Some say it is a stone to foster psychic abilities. It is used to connect one with the divine holy white light of unconditional love. It is used to diminish psychosomatic ailments as well as physical ailments of the throat and angina. Many believe this color fosters good luck. It is an energy stone that teaches us to reach for the stars. I have no experience with green goldstone, yet green is always beneficial for healing the heart. Why I Love This Stone: The physical properties and metaphysical effects of this man made stone, goldstone, are remarkable. It is the only heart that I carry in my bag of stones. I carry it because it is that powerful. It is a favorite stone for many. One of our friends in the massage business constantly uses goldstone on her clients to alleviate stress, depression, anxiety, and more. The only concern she has is the discordant energy the goldstone removes from the clients, discolors the crystal. Initially, she forgot to cleanse the stones overnight after each day of numerous clients. Her remarkable success with clients always gave her a full day and when I tried cleansing her stones, they had absorbed too much discordant energy. The discoloration from this energy was too deep to bring the goldstone back to its original clear luster. Goldstone, even discolored and looking dirty, still performed incredible physical and emotional changes with her clients. Many love the goldstone crystal because it is so beautiful in the sunlight. This may be true, yet I believe it is also an unconscious choice because of the powerful energy the body feels. Composition: Goldstone as a manmade stone it is made from glass and copper. The only chemical formula I could find is Si0 2 and Cu (copper) for the red color, or Cr (chromium) for the green color, or Co (cobalt) or Mn (manganese) for the blue color. Physical Properties: Goldstone is rated with a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale because that is the rating for glass. Copper is rated with a hardness of 2.5 on the Mohs scale and it has a cubic crystalline structure. 3

4 Copper is a reddish colored metal with a high electrical and thermal conductivity, plus it is maleable. Experiences: Goldstone is the only heart I carry in my bag of special crystals because I find the powerful energy of the glass and copper mixture has profound effects when I use it. My body feels a subtle trembling from the waves of energy I connect with when I work. We have a friend who has been drawn to this stone since she was a little girl. She continues to work with and wear goldstone daily. She uses goldstone in her practice with tremendous results. My experience in trying to cleanse goldstones filled with discordant energy to restore their beauty have been unsuccessful. The stones still look dirty, with deep streaks, as dark and discordant energy is removed from people and contained in the crystals. Soaking in water for extended periods and exposed to sunlight have only a slight noticeable effect on their appearance. Perhaps burying them in the earth for extended periods may work. Their effectiveness when working with people is restored. Daily cleansing of all stones used when working with clients is necessary. They can be soaked overnight and the water discarded. We have heard stories from those who use goldstone in conjunction with other crystals to provide profound bodywork sessions. The changes related by their clients are magical. Some people relate how feelings of depression are removed and a joyful, sunny disposition appears. They feel like they are sparkling with the beauty we see in goldstone. Recommended Uses: Goldstone is most effective when touching the skin and used in multiples of two. It is effective anywhere it is placed. Using a goldstone massage wand is excellent for releasing blocked energy, in deep massage work, acupressure, and meridian work. Carry a piece in your pocket for a few weeks and notice the difference in how you perceive and feel. You will find you have feelings of harmony and peace. Kathy began her meditation by holding two blue goldstone hearts. She felt an intense energy in her hands. The crystals took her out of her body and when she returned she felt wonderful, rested, and it was a trip without any real remembrances. Kathy saw a white spiral of energy leaving her abdomen when she returned from her journey. The energy she felt from the goldstone hearts was intense throughout the meditation. I also began by holding two blue goldstone Hearts. I was visualizing the night sky as I looked at the sparkles of light in the blue hearts. I felt the energy from the goldstone as I got comfortable. The energy intensified as I relaxed and got focused. The energy in my hands was very intense and the stones were like hand warmers the energy was so warm. It was also a meditation filled with great expectancy because when I picked up the blue goldstone hearts, my heart was filled with a profound love and harmony. It was almost overwhelming and I was soon taken out of my body. When I regained the feeling of being in my body, I knew I was with a number of souls in a beautiful place. I really had no remembrance of where I went. It took about five minutes for me to get back into my body. Kathy began her next meditation with a golden reddish goldstone heart and massage tool. The energy she felt was incredibly nurturing and beautiful. She had a vision that if she was going to have any reflexology work, she was to have the therapist use this tool. She also saw this tool as a gigantic crystalline cathedral as she held it in her hand. She saw how the red goldstone heart has a special significance as a healing tool for the earth, and humanity. She again left her body and had no remembrance of where she journeyed. As she returned to consciousness, she saw Saint Germain blessing us. I began with a tremendous feeling of incredible harmony and love in my heart. It felt as if my heart and chest were going to explode. I also held a golden reddish goldstone heart and massage tool. I was soon out of my body with a large group of people and we were experiencing the divine unfed flames. It began with the violet all consuming flame of Saint Germain, followed by the yellow flame of the mind of God, the royal blue flame of the will of God, the rose pink flame of love from the divine Holy Mother, the intense green flame of healing, the gold flame of the resurrection, and the white flame of the ascension. I soon came back to consciousness and my heart was still filled with a beautiful harmony, love, and expectancy. It was a blessing and an intensely beautiful meditation. 5

6 Miscellaneous: Goldstone is easy to find and at a reasonable price, yet sometimes it is difficult to find good quality. Many times we find streaks in the glass, rather than a uniform mixture of copper throughout the piece. There are also the drab, lackluster, and barely sparkling pieces. Red Goldstone is said to vibrate to the number 3. Blue Goldstone is said to vibrate to the number 7. Green Goldstone is said to vibrate to the number 11. Red goldstone is associated with the base and sacral chakras. Blue goldstone is associated with the throat chakra. Green goldstone is associated with the heart chakra. Goldstone is used to balance the energy of the body, stabilize emotions and moods, reduce tension, anxiety, and depression, protect the center of the body, it benefits the stomach, eases the pain of arthritis, inflammation, rheumatism, plus other aches and pains.
