3 3 Wide Mesh Gauze Dressings Wide mesh gauze dressings are used for absorption, padding and debridement. They can be dipped in a medicated solution or coated with a cream or ointment prior to application. 6 6 One-Plus Gauze Dressings A One-Plus dressing is made by serging one layer of fine mesh to several layers of wide mesh. If debridement is desired, the wide mesh side of the dressing can be used as the wound contact layer. If not, then the fine mesh side can be put next to the wound. This dressing eliminates the excessive time required to pre-cut and layer gauze. It also eliminates the need for stocking and using multiple products. 8 8 Dermanet Non-Adherent Contact Layer Dermanet is a non-adherent contact layer to protect burns, graft sites, donor sites and other wounds. It can be coated with a topical ointment, cut to size, and then wrapped around a burn before affixing the chosen dressing. Since Dermanet does not absorb the topical ointment, the ointment stays on the burn site longer for more effective treatment. If the open method of burn treatment is practiced, Dermanet can still be used as a carrier to deliver the topical medications to the burn. This would protect the granulating tissue while still maintaining a free flow of air to the site. The wound contact layer is nonadherent to protect fragile granulating burns and skin grafts during the healing phase. Additionally, Sofsorb horizontally wicks drainage away from the wound and throughout the pad, increasing its absorption capacity.
