2 ABOUT US Shristi Special Academy is a Registered Charitable Society, founded in June 1995 by three Special educators. Shristi partners with the Mentally Challenged and Autistic to foster independence in them and acceptance in the community, with an aim of providing holistic and personalized care to individuals with special needs, with conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, delayed development, cerebral palsy, seizure disorder and behavior challenges. INTEGRATED CARE We are dedicated to enabling self-reliance, self-esteem and independence in children under our care, based on our philosophy of warmth, affection and unconditional acceptance. Opportunities are created to constructively explore the talent and potential of each special individual. Shristi reaches out to all age groups from infancy to adulthood through a continuum of programs. Shristi works with a holistic approach aimed at overall development mental, physical, and emotional and hence the services offered include habilitation training, transportation, nutritional supplement (breakfast/ lunch and milk), medical screening, consultation and treatment and practical exposure to all individuals irrespective of their social and economic strata. SERVICES The services are provided at two locations: Basaveswarnagar and Channenahalli, off Magadi Road in Bangalore Rural. At present, Shristi reaches out to 120 Mentally Challenged and Autistic individuals at its two campuses and to another 40 normal children through its Balwadi (preschool) for rural children. Shristi has a range of programs for children and adults all aimed at skill acquisition to enable age and ability- appropriate independent functioning. It also aims to integrate and mainstream individuals in mainstream education or employment. Hence, the gamut of programs includes: Early Intervention, Primary, Prevocational Training and Vocational Training. Shristi also runs a Production facility. In its 11 years of service, Shristi has mainstreamed 20 children in regular schools and 4 adults in open employment. Many alumni have also been placed in gift shops, automobile spare shops, as receptionist etc. Sadhana was mainly established to create a presence for Shristi in the heart of the city. It s the product outlet center of the organization. It provides for sheltered employment through a tailoring unit, phenol making unit, paper bag making unit etc. The same streams exist in the main center as well. The products in this catalog are all made by the children and staff of Shristi and the proceeds goes towards supporting the children. 2
