Floral Enchantment Quilt In the elegant floral theme collection "Floral Enchantment," we combined small fancy floral motifs with scrolls, fans, shells, and decorative elements.

1 Floral Enchantment Quilt In the elegant floral theme collection "Floral Enchantment," we combined small fancy floral motifs with scrolls, fans, shells, and decorative elements. These designs work well alone or when combined together to create wonderful quilt blocks. The project plans shown here do just that. We designed 6 quilt blocks (we used four in the actual quilt) and combined them with large single designs to create a large 9 block quilt. We hope you can use these designs and quilt block plan as inspiration to create beautiful designs for your home. -- Steve Wilson, Linda Winzeler and Staff STEP: 1 STEP: 2 The quilt pattern that we created for this collection is a nine block quilt with multiple borders. The pattern illustrates the measurements for the blocks and also the designs we used to create the quilt. All measurements given indicate the finished size, so make sure you add in the seam allowance before cutting. Each of the nine squares is 10." All fabric strips are 1, and the outside edge binding is ½ when finished. We used home decor fabric for this quilt but any fabric should suffice. Choosing colors is very important with a project like this one. Start with a neutral colored base. Use one of the accent colors of the quilt to choose your flower colors, use another accent fabric to choose the colors of the leaves in the design. Use your final accent color to choose your color for the ribbons. Once these three base colors are chosen, select similar colors for shading. Copyright(C)2006 Embroidery Central, Inc. Page 1 of 7

STEP: 3 STEP: 4 For the top center quilt block, we've used design "Large Fan Motif" (hdbo30b) in the center of the square. Let's embroider each of the 10" neutral colored fabric squares.

All of the finished blocks have an approximate 9"x 9" embroidery area. In the upper left corner of our quilt, we've used a layout we'll call "Quilt Block 3" which involves three embroidery designs: "Bouquet with Background, Larger" (hdbo4) rotated 45 degrees in the upper right corner, and used at a 225 degree rotation in the lower left corner. "Single Flower with Background, Larger" (hdbo5), "Ribbon with Flowers, Larger" (hdbo3) rotated 315 degrees in the upper left corner, and used at a 135 degree rotation in the lower right corner. To create this block, you might rotate the designs on the machine or in software that is capable of rotating a design. We suggest that you lay out the three designs in embroidery software and merge into one file, as follows: In the left upper corner, "Seashell Corner, Larger" (hdbo23b), to the right "Seashell Motif, Larger" (hdbo16b). In the center, rotate design "Swirls" (hdbo32) 45 degrees. In the lower left corner of the block, place design "Seashell, Larger" (hdbo16b) this time rotated 225 degrees, and in the lower right corner, rotate design "Seashell Corner, Larger" (hdbo23b) 180 degrees. This finished block has approximately a 9" square embroidered area. For the middle right block, embroider "Bow with Loose Flowers, Larger" (hdbo10b) in the center of the fabric square. For the block in the lower left corner of the quilt, we've used a layout we'll call "Quilt Block 4", which involves three embroidery designs. We suggest that you lay out the three designs in embroidery software and merge into one file, as follows: In the upper left corner, "Seashell in Scallops, Larger" (hdbo27b) rotated 315 degrees; In the upper right corner, "Seashell with Ribbon Motif, Larger" (hdbo28b) rotated 45 degrees. In the center of the block, place design "Fan" (hdbo17) without additional rotation. In the bottom half of the block, repat the designs used in the top half. Merely switch the rotation and placment: Seashell with Ribbon Motif, Larger" (hdbo28b) on the left rotated 225 degrees, and "Seashell in Scallops, Larger" (hdbo27b) on the right, rotated 135 degrees. In the center, '"Swirls" (hdbo18) rotated 180 degrees. In the bottom half of the block, repeat the designs used in the top half.

This layout involves the following three designs: On the top left, "Flower Motif, Larger" (hdbo14b) rotated 315 degrees, on the top right "Flowers with Background" (hdbo11) rotated 45 degrees. In the center, '"Swirls" (hdbo18) rotated 180 degrees. In the bottom half of the block, repeat the designs used in the top half. Merely switch the rotation and placement: On the left "Flowers with Background" (hdbo11) rotated 225 degrees, and "Flower Motif, Larger" (hdbo14b) on the right, rotated 135 degrees, To create the following blocks you will need a machine or software that is capable of rotating a design. We suggest creating the block in software and then printing out a template. Like the other composite quilt blocks, this finished block will have a 9" square embroidered area. We have designed two more quilt blocks that you might choose to use in your quilt in place of any of the other designs or blocks. In "Quilt Block 1", use two designs: "Heart with Flowers" (hdbo2) is used twice. Rotate it 315 degrees for the upper left corner, and 135 degrees for the lower right corner. Also use "Flowers with Background" (hdbo11) twice. Rotate it 45 degrees for the upper right corner, and 225 degrees for the lower left corner. Copyright(C)2006 Embroidery Central, Inc. Page 6 of 7

"Ribbon with Loose Flowers" (hdbo13) goes in the upper left corner at a 315 degree rotation, and in the lower right corner at a 135 degree rotation. "Flower Motif, Larger" (hdbo14b) is rotated 45 degrees for the upper right corner, and 225 degrees for the lower left corner. In the center area, place two instances of "Swirls" (hdbo18) end to end, with one at the original orientation and the other rotated 180 degrees.
