3 J.T. BYRNE FUNERAL DIRECTORS EST CHOOSING A COFFIN With so many options, choosing a coffin can be difficult. Our team will give you sympathetic support when selecting a coffin and explain the details, construction and finishing options available to you. Coffins and caskets are generally suitable for either burial or cremation and vary from the elaborate to the simple, with many choices in between to cater for your funeral requirements. The decision about which coffin to choose should be governed by your judgement and family wishes. For many people, the coffin or casket is considered as a tribute and is therefore carefully selected. We offer a coffin range supplied primarily by another British family business, Bradnam Joinery, who are based in Suffolk. Our coffin range is sourced from renewable and sustainable sources and we deliberately avoid the use of wood preparations and finishes that are harmful to the environment. Some coffins we offer are manufactured using natural plant fibres. Our range of wicker, banana leaf and water hyacinth allows for a choice of shapes, colours and price. Our extensive range of solid and veneer coffins come in a variety of different timbers. We also provide coffins made from different materials and painted finishes that are available to your specification. An engraved name plate of the loved one is usually attached to the lid of the coffin. We are happy to discuss with you the selection of religious symbols such as a cross or crucifix, or non-religious symbols such as a rose, or symbols used in the funeral of persons of non-christian faiths. The prices are clearly marked in our price list which accompanies this brochure. You will be given plenty of time to make your choice and you will not be pressured to spend more than you have to. If you do require something different, or a coffin that is not shown in this brochure, please ask and we can arrange this for you. 1

20 Planning your child s funeral is something that no parent ever expects to face. You are likely to be in a state of shock and understandably unprepared to make decisions about the funeral service. Our role at J.T. Byrne is to provide you with advice and support to enable you to make the right plans for your child. There are many options to consider; the list below is purely to give you some guidance. Is the funeral to be a burial or a cremation? For burials we would advise that you visit the churchyard/cemetry to make sure that is appropriate. Would Is Do Are you like a religious or non-relegious service? there a particular music you would like played or a poem you would like rea as part of the funeral service? you have a special outfit you would like your child dressed in? there personal items such as toys, photographs and letters you would like placed in the coffin? Generally the coffin is transported to the service in one of our limousines, however you can request a hearse if you so wish. We are able to assist with taking a hand or foot impressions you may also wish to havea lock of hair as a keepsake. Funeral arrangements are a very personal choice and you will need to take some time to think about what is right for you. 18
