THE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY CUSTOMS MANAGEMENT ACT 2004 EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY CUSTOMS MANAGEMENT (DUTY REMISSION) REGULATIONS, 2008 LEGAL NOTICE In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Council of Ministers by Section 140 of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004, the Council of Ministers has approved a remission of duty on the following raw materials and industrial inputs for the manufacture of goods as follows: No. HS CODE DESCRIPTION OF GOODS REMISSION Wheat (Wheat grain) Odoriferous mixtures of a kind used as raw materials in the food or drink industries Kenya and Tanzania granted a remission of a duty to apply duty rate of 10% instead of 35% to for one year. Uganda granted a remission of duty to apply a duty rate of 0% instead of 10%for one year Organic surface active agents (Anionic, Cationic, Other) (LABSA) Tanzania and Uganda granted a remission to apply a duty rate of 0% instead of 10% for one year Other Tanzania and Uganda granted a remission to apply a duty rate of 0% instead of 25% for one year. 5. The following conditions shall apply: a) The administration of the Duty Remission shall be in accordance with Section 140 of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004, and the East African Community Customs Management (Duty Remission) Regulation b) In the event that finished products from raw materials under the specific country duty remission are sold in the Customs territory (EAC), such goods shall attract duties, levies and other charges provided in the EAC Common External Tariff.
