6 ES Chadstone Waverley Holmesglen s first campus, opened in 1982, is home to some of the largest and most well-known building and construction facilities in Victoria. The Chadstone campus educates around 10,000 students each year. It offers over 30 trade pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships in popular areas like plumbing and carpentry, as well as in more niche fields like glass and glazing, and stonemasonry. As well as delivering building and construction courses, the campus is home to radio and TV studios, graphic design studios, our business faculty, IT labs and a number of our health and community care courses. The Chadstone campus has its own train station, Holmesglen, which is located on the Glen Waverley line. Sometimes known as our resort campus due to its beautiful surroundings, the Waverley campus has seen a number of changes over the past few years to ensure our students have access to the latest technologies. Yearly, Waverley educates around 5,500 students. This campus is home to our expansive horticulture, floristry and landscaping facilities, as well as an early childhood practice room, film studio, wellness centre, Vocational College and hospitality training kitchens, and our student training restaurant, Zest. The Waverley campus has close ties with local community, which gives students the chance to put the theory they have learnt in the classroom into practice. Moorabbin City Located in the heart of Bayside, the Moorabbin campus is continually growing, educating around 6,800 students each year. Since the opening of our nursing facility in 2011, the Moorabbin campus has become a premier hub for healthcare education. It is the only TAFE campus in Australia offering a Bachelor of Nursing and in January 2017 it opened the Holmesglen Private Hospital. As well as being a health precinct, this campus is home to our Vocational College, modern electrical and engineering facilities, and brand new hospitality facilities, including our student training restaurant, Cilantro. Our newest campus is located on St Kilda Rd, Southbank. It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn in a stimulating environment in the heart of Melbourne. Each year, around 2,250 students go through the city campus. We have installed specialist facilities for the delivery of courses in fashion design and apparel engineering, as well as architectural design and drafting, and early childhood education. With classrooms overlooking the Shrine of Remembrance and surrounding parklands, students are provided with inspiration and the motivation to achieve their best, while using the latest technology in their field of study.

62 PRE-APPRENTICESHIPS & APPRENTICESHIPS Holmesglen offers more than 40 pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships across the Chadstone, Waverley and Moorabbin campuses. PRE-APPRENTICESHIPS If you re unsure about which apprenticeship to do, consider a pre-apprenticeship. These courses teach you the basic skills of an industry, so you get a feel for what the apprenticeship and working in the field will be like. Pre-apprenticeships are taught on campus and are conducted in workshops that are set up just like a worksite. This means you get hands-on skills and training with our supportive teachers who have experience in the industry. Completing a pre-apprenticeship can be a real advantage if you decide to take on the full time commitment of an apprenticeship. It can help you land an apprenticeship with a great employer and may also reduce the length of your apprenticeship. A potential boss will know that you have relevant experience, as well as all the basic skills and commitment required for a successful career in the industry. Pre-apprenticeships start at various times throughout the year and usually take between 10 to 20 weeks to complete. Applying for a Pre-apprenticeship To apply for a pre-apprenticeship, contact the department and apply direct. APPRENTICESHIPS An apprenticeship allows you to work, earn and study at the same time. For an apprenticeship, you need an employer to sponsor you as an apprentice. You will work with them and learn on the job, while getting paid. Your employer will help train you, passing on valuable knowledge and skills while you work on real jobs. Combined with on-the-job experience, you will study a nationally recognised certificate level course. Your training may happen in your workplace, or on campus in one of our specialised training facilities. Holmesglen s apprenticeships are all managed by respected teaching staff who have years of experience in the industry. Apprenticeships start at various times throughout the year and are usually three to four years in length. Applying for an Apprenticeship A training contract must be completed by the employer and apprentice within the first two weeks of employment. An Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (Apprenticeship Network) representative will visit the workplace to complete the training contract with the employer and the apprentice. Contact the Apprenticeship Network on or australianapprenticeships.gov.au for more information. On signing, you will be asked to nominate the registered training organisation (RTO). When you nominate Holmesglen, we will automatically be notified of your intention to start training. You will then be placed on the notification list and we will contact you when the next apprenticeship group is starting. 62
