When Beckman was 17 years old, he got off the train at Red Wing and found employment at a local leather factory. Working there, Beckman developed an interest in shoemaking. In 1883, he opened a shoe store, inspired by a desire to sell only truly good shoes. The store thrived, but Charles still believed good shoes were too hard to find, so he decided to become a shoemaker himself. In 1905, with 14 like-minded investors, he founded The Red Wing Shoe Company. redwingheritage.com 3

The result speaks for itself. oil tanned leather Oil tanned leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant. It provides exceptional durability and performance. You can prevent leather deterioration by cleaning, conditioning and protecting the boots on a regular basis. CHROME is a traditional heavyweight leather that is uniform in color and appearance. It is very water, stain and perspiration resistant. The classic smooth finish can wear longer without the scuff and wear showing on the footwear. In some instances, it can even be polished. OIL SLICK is an oiled and waxed full-grain leather providing excellent utility. It is water, stain and perspiration resistant with a natural appearance so nature s beauty marks like scars, scratches, fat wrinkles and insect bites remain visible. It has an excellent surface feel with a soft, mellow temper. ROUGH & TOUGH is a distressed pull up leather with an antiqued or mottled appearance that is designed to appear slightly worn - already broken in. No finishing pigments are used on this leather so the natural beauty shows through to add character. HARNESS is a natural, heavyweight, full-grain leather with a unique combination of oil and wax for enhanced performance and surface appeal. It is 100% natural, pull up leather - no pigments are used so all its natural beauty marks remain visible. MESA is an oiled, HH weight full-grain leather with a soft, mellow temper and excellent surface feel. It is water, stain and perspiration resistant. ORO-IGINAL is an oiled, full-grain leather with a soft, mellow temper and excellent surface feel. It is water, stain and perspiration resistant. Worksmith has a soft, mellow temper and excellent, waxy surface appeal and is easily maintained. suede or roughout leather Roughout is a reverse suede leather made in our tannery S.B. Foot Tanning Company. Three of our leathers are roughout leathers Abilene, Mohave and Muleskinner. Most tanneries employ a process of splitting and thinning hides to create the rough surface. Abilene uses unsplit, heavyweight leather with proprietary tanning processes that gives it a unique, rough texture. Mohave is a premium waterproof, reverse suede leather used by the United States military. Muleskinner leather is burnished featuring visual texture and great appeal. ABILENE is a reverse suede leather, referred to as roughout. While other tanneries employ a process of splitting and thinning hides to create the rough surface, Abilene uses unsplit, heavyweight leather with proprietary tanning processes to give it a unique, rough texture. In contrast, the soft, supple suede interior creates a natural, breathable lining for the foot. MOHAVE is a premium, waterproof, reverse suede leather (referred to as roughout ) originally designed to withstand the harshest fi eld conditions. Its outer appearance provides texture, character and durability. Mohave provides excellent water repellency and superior resistance to stains. MULESKINNER As the name implies, this leather has the trademark toughness and durability of a Red Wing quality leather. Muleskinner leather is highlighted with a burnished look that has a visual texture and great appeal. We create Red Wing leathers as a signature component of Red Wing footwear. Andreas Rhein Master Tanner S.B. Foot Tanning Company The S.B. Foot Tanning Company was first established along the banks of Trout Brook near Red Wing, Minnesota. Founded in 1872 by Silas B. Foot & George Sterling, the S.B. Foot Tanning Company has been a part of the Red Wing, Minnesota community for generations. the process Tanning hides into leather is the process of converting animal proteins into a stable material that will not easily break down. Once this conversion is attained, the leather can be finished in a number of ways to achieve the desired pliability, water resistance, and texture. Properly tanned leather can maintain its properties in excess of 50 years. S.B. Foot Tanning uses fresh-prepared hides called Wet Blue. Wet Blue refers to the blue tone of the hide derived from a high exhaustion tanning process. This leather product is very stable, pliable and durable a perfect starting point for high grade leathers. To get to a finished state, the Wet Blue hides are re-wetted, shaved, and placed into massive wood drums to soak in tree oils, tanning agents, and dyes. The more time the leather has to soak in the chemicals and oils, the more penetration the leather receives - a helpful trait for concealing future scuffs and maintaining color consistency as the leather is broken in. redwingheritage.com 5

Made in Maine the traditional home of moccasin style shoes with our leather and our signature details, Red Wing s Genuine Handsewn collection is crafted using century-old techniques that have been passed from hand to hand, generation to generation. Skilled shoemakers fit the leather to the last and hand stitch the pieces together to form the moccasinshaped upper. This style of shoemaking is one of the oldest and most traditional methods of constructing shoes. Maine, once America s footwear capital, has a rich shoemaking history that dates back to the mid 1800s. The Androscoggin River supplied power to many of the tanneries and factories of the early 20th century. 16 TERMS MERCHANDISE RETURN POLICY Defective Merchandise: Red Wing Brands of America accepts returns of defective merchandise. There is no prior authorization required. A return merchandise memo must accompany defective merchandise returns. The return merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on defective merchandise and prompt credit will be issued on returned defective merchandise. Shipping Errors: Red Wing Brands of America accepts returns on merchandise that is sent in error. This product must be returned within 30 days of delivery. A return merchandise memo must accompany the return along with a copy of the invoice or packing slip indicating the returned shoe(s). Shoes returned without a packing slip will be returned to the dealer. The returned merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on returned shipping errors and prompt credit will be issued. Special Orders: Special order merchandise may be returned within 30 days of delivery. A return merchandise memo must accompany the return along with a copy of the invoice or packing slip indicating the returned special order shoe(s). Shoes returned without a copy of the invoice or packing slip will be returned to the dealer. A $10 per pair re-stocking fee will be charged on all special orders returned after 30 days. All Other Returns: No other merchandise returns will be accepted without prior authorization from your Red Wing sales representative. After authorization is granted, a return merchandise memo must accompany your return along with the original packing slip and the return authorization number from your Red Wing sales representative. Shoes returned without the return authorization number and the original packing slip will be returned to the dealer. A $10 per pair re-stocking fee will be charged on all authorized returns. All Defective and New Merchandise Must Be Returned To: Red Wing Brands of America Attn: Returns 135 Cannon River Avenue Red Wing, MN LIMITED WARRANTY RELATING TO RED WING BRANDED FOOTWEAR Red Wing branded footwear products are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials. If within 6 months of purchase, a defect occurs in a Red Wing branded footwear product as the result of normal use, Red Wing Shoe Company, Inc. ( Red Wing ) will repair the defect or exchange the product. If a product defect occurs as the result of normal use within 6 to 12 months after purchase, Red Wing will repair the defect or issue a credit for 50% of the purchase price. If a product defect occurs as the result of normal use 12 months or more after purchase, Red Wing may, at its option, issue a fair and reasonable credit that can be applied to the purchase of Red Wing branded footwear. The amount of the credit will be determined in the dealer s sole judgment. Product failures caused by excessive or abusive wear conditions do not qualify for exchange or purchase credit. This warranty is available only to the original purchaser and is not transferable. No adjustment will be given without the original receipt of purchase. You must return your footwear to the Red Wing Shoe dealer from which the footwear was purchased. Disclaimer: The limited warranty relating to Red Wing branded footwear is in lieu of any other express warranty. No agent, employee or representative of Red Wing has any authority to bind Red Wing to any affirmation, representation or warranty concerning Red Wing branded footwear products, except as stated herein. Red Wing shall not be liable for any consequential or incidental damages. This limited product warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Any implied warranties shall be effective for a period not exceeding 12 months from the date of purchase. Some states do not allow manufacturers to impose time limitations on certain implied warranties, so the above limitation may not apply to you. DISTRIBUTION POLICY It is the policy of Red Wing Shoe Company to sell its Red Wing Heritage products directly to selected retailers for resale only at or from the retailer s retail and/or online outlets approved in writing by Red Wing Shoe Company, and only to the retailer s end user customers. Red Wing Heritage retailers are not authorized to sell to or ship to any end users outside of the United States or Canada. This policy further prohibits resale or shipment of Red Wing Heritage products by a retailer to any other business location inside or outside of the United States. Violation of this distribution policy may result in the immediate termination of a retailer s right to sell any Red Wing branded products.
