Boy, am I late getting this out. Thanks to Jerry Gautier after he tweeked my brain, I am now putting out this month s newsletter. Today we had our fist bit of snow on the hills around Kamloops, and I am guessing Aberdeen area has more than just a dusting December s meeting, on the 7 th, is our annual Christmas Goodies meeting. Don t forget to bring something festive for the people to buy on the table Now, on with the newsletter. Steve. CALL TO ORDER: Janessa called the meeting to order at Sees a number of new faces, so introductions around the room; -Guests: Beth & Smitty from Windsor Plywood Store Stan Saari newly moved to Kamloops from Lac La Hache. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Sandi Trueman Can-go Grannies have a charity where they have art pieces, on wood pieces 6 x6 and they want to have 150 made for them to send out to the people to paint on, and ½ of the 1

2 150 they hope to have, are to be framed in some way If you want to help Sandi with making some of these canvases, contact Sandi at: or TRU Bursary Carl Ottosen has been contacted by TRU concerning the presentation of the bursary, and was informed they are going to present it in January. Hope we can have the successful student attend our meeting. FINANCES: Dave Gilmour Dave informed the group that the insurance premium and the School Board monies have been paid in full for the year. AUTISTIC SOCIETY SILENT AUCTION ITEMS: Don Gienow Don informed the group about the Autistic Societies efforts to raise money and they use a silent auction of donated items. He wanted to know if there were some members willing to donate some wood-crafted items for the auction to be held on Nov. 26, 2016 (Please have items in their position at least 3 days prior to 26 th.) Positive response from members. FREE WOOD FOR THE TAKING: Gary Harker & Nic Verbruggen Gary announced that he has some palette wood that is free for the taking. He has a bunch of it, and there is more where this came from. Contact Gary at: or gharker37@gmail.com. Nic told us of the Desmond Industries closing down and there is a bunch of different woods to be had from them. You must phone ahead so as to set-up a date to see and collect the wood you desire. With a wood hammer carved and placed on lid. Sorry Jerry. Batteries died in camera. DEMO FROM LAST MONTH -- MARQURETY Warren Janes Warren showed his method of laying-out and cutting the veneers that he uses to make and finish his pictures. His favourite finish was varithane, and now he s changed over to Min-Wax as he feels it gives a better feel to the pictures. Sharp knife Match wood grains 4 Past onto paper

5 DEMO: WINDSOR PLYWOOD PRESENTATION: Beth & Smitty (formerly at Summit) They gave a brief description and supply of woods that they have on hand, and orderable, for Intarsia projects, and others too, of course. Selection of different woods Selection of finishing items Starting to carry more tools and clamps useful in woodworking. Samain finishes that they stock for wood workers.
