3 Open House at PAP, a big success After much anticipation the Polytype Asia Pacific Open House 2014 finally arrived. With visitors and co-exhibitors from around the world coming to see the newly finished PAP facilities, it was an auspicious moment of East meets West. With the tropical Thai climate, entertainment such as world dance combined with the European engineering and competent international speakers, it was the most cosmopolitan event of the year for plastic cups and tubes. There was something to learn for everyone during the presentations from industry leaders; the plush cool room set up specifically for the short seminars also provided a chance to refresh oneself in it. After the talks, between demonstrations or over lunch, there was always plenty of conversation in the air, as people got the chance to gather with industry peers and chat about the presented innovations. To the delight of the onlookers, the Eco- Line was unveiled in all its glory giving full speed demonstrations. Featuring plastic tube extrusion to decorating, heading and capping, the machine left a big impression on those there to witness it. Alongside //polytype s own finely crafted machinery were exhibitors such as Peyer Graphic, Combitool, A.M. Ramp Hongkong (RUCO), Uviterno, StillCan, Breyer, Madag Printing Systems, Mall+Herlan, Maucher Consulting, //wifac, OMV Machinery and Windelev. With a healthy turnout of attendees and an upbeat atmosphere, the event proved to be a great success thanks to the wonderful planning and organization by all those at PAP. Both visitors and exhibitors left the land of smiles with a smile of their own to take home with them. 3

4 //polytype OMV Open House 2014 OMV is back! //polytype OMV celebrated in April its joining the wifag//polytype Group with an Open House in Verona. Customers and friends from the entire world came to catch up with the latest developments, listen to updates on T-IML, new materials, barrier technology and ancillary equipment above all, to enjoy the party! The event focused on the market launch of F37, OMV s new medium/high capacity cup thermoformer. In line with //polytype OMV s tradition, F37 is an in-mould-trimming machine featuring excellent productivity combined with low total cost of ownership. An in-built rim-rolling device allows smart handling of the product, considerably reducing capital expenditure. But the biggest news is where F37 breaks from the tradition: Its compatibility with base tools of the most diffused models in the market, including the competitors. A full, in-line system made of an F37 thermoformer, a D120 extruder and a D80 co-extruder was demonstrated, running full-steam during the 3-days event in Verona. Demos where also run on an offline F33, a flexible, medium-capacity in-mould trimming cup thermoformer. Customers were delighted to see how easily OMV machines are started in operation and handled. Several moulds designed and built by OMV were also exhibited, showcasing the company s know-how in providing solutions for innovative packaging. The whole programme was made even more enthralling by the co-sponsors presentations: The guest speaker Mr. S.K. Chin of Creapack explored at length several case studies of successful shifting of packaging from metal and glass to plastics; Avantium/YXY introduced its revolutionary PEF bio-plastic, whose applications in thermoforming are developed in exclusive partnership with //polytype OMV; //polytype presented its full range of cup & lid printing machines, with 4

5 Guests greatly appreciated the city and wine cellar tours offered by OMV, thus combining business with leisure and fine food & wine tasting. A final gala dinner at a Villa of the Renaissance Age duly concluded the celebrations, made precious by a small concert featuring famous opera arias, to honour Verona s heritage as one of the most famous stages of Bel Canto. //polytype OMV s workers put their heart into what they do, every day, and look forward to show the world what they can do: For his heart was in his work, and the heart Give the grace unto every Art. During the last 3 to 4 years //polytype has leveraged and enhanced digital printing via ink jet technology, developing the best solution for their customers challenges. Digital printing is not only increasing flexibility but also raises print quality to the levels of labels and shrink sleeves. A digitally printed surface also offers a glossy appearance just like an overprint varnish. The modular concept for the //polytype DigiCup has three main components: First the well established cup infeed and pre-treating stations. Secondly: The cup is decorated with low migration process inks, including the possibility for a 4 colour bottom decoration. Finally the cup is conveyed through a UV-dryer to obtain a scratch resistant surface and then restacked on a restacker. Various shapes can be handled and decorated on the //polytype DigiCup. Above all, this printing unit is characterized by clear advantages in the following three areas: 1. 9 Introducing: F37 Thermoformers OMV is proud to introduce its F37-series thermoformers F37 is a fully automatic, servo driven, in-mould trimming thermoforming machine designed to produce heavy or light plastic cup and tubs and different types of lids. The machine can process a wide range of materials, such as PS, PP, PLA, PET and multilayer sheet. Its ability to handle trays as well as cups, upto a draw depth of 150 mm, makes it an extremely versatile machine and gives it an edge over any machine based on the tilting mold system. On top of that, F37 features a unique Rim Rolling option, whereby cups can be rim rolled right off the forming press, so as to get beautiful, lip rolled cups out of the stacker. All movements (index, press, cutting, stacking) are controlled through a set of servomotors driven by an axis control system and a PLC. The system is designed for top performances in terms of speed, precision, safety. Its lower platen stroke is adjustable according to the height of the items to be formed: this feature permits to reduce the cycle time, optimizing it for every object. The machine is equipped with a quick mould changing system, for a fast air/water connections and a quick mould exit from the forming/cutting station. Steel rule cutting moulds can also be used. The forming area of F37 is mm; cutting force is 50 tons. It can fit 45 cavities on a 70.6 mm PP drinking cup, with an effective speed of 36 strokes/min. F37 is compatible with OMV molds built for the F36-thermoforming series. Its extended version, F37X, has a forming area of mm, cutting force of 60 tons. F37X has been designed to be compatible also with molds made for the most common thermoforming machines, also by other brands.
