As you select the courses you will take at Neuqua, use this resource in identifying some of your career passions and interests. 2 Having a profession within this cluster involves the planning and managing of all aspects of agricultural productions, landscaping, excavation, conservation, and environmental upkeep. A little bit about the Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources there are seven areas of concentration, or pathways. In this particular cluster, the pathways represent groups of occupations or areas of study that lead to similar areas of work. Here is a breakdown of each pathway: Food Products & Processing Systems This pathway houses professions that are responsible for quality control, development, and management of foods. For example Biochemist-Nutritionist, Microbiologist, Food and Drug Inspector, or Meet Processor are all a part of this group. Plant Systems This pathway specifically works with plants. There are a large range of professions that apply to this group such as, Farmer, Golf Course Manager, Botanist, Plant Geneticist, or even Tree Surgeon. Animal Systems People within this pathway work specifically with animals or systems related to their care and/or use. Livestock inspector, Veterinarian, Animal Caretaker, or Aquaculturalist would fall in this group. Power, Structural & Technical Systems Professions in this pathway focus on operations and monitoring of machines and technical structures. For example, Machinist, Agricultural Engineer, GPS Technician, and Machine Operator are all part of this category. Natural Resource Systems These professions emphasize hands-on retrieval of resources or monitoring within the environment and include jobs such as, Hydrologist, Ecologist, Mining Engineer, or Commercial Fisherman. Environmental Service Systems This pathway includes professions such as Agricultural Educator, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Pollution Prevention and Control Manager. Agribusiness Systems This final pathway leads towards the managing fields of this cluster such as; Livestock Manager, Agricultural Products Buyer-Distributer, Farmer-Ranch Operator. A little bit about the Architecture & Construction Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Architecture & Construction there are three areas of concentration often referred to as pathways. Each of these pathways describes a group of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. For this career cluster the pathways function as steps to a larger process, and many of the groups will work with one another on a continuing basis. The three pathways housed under the Architecture & Construction career cluster are: Design/Pre-Construction This pathway houses professions that are responsible for creating the plans for others to build structures from. For example Civil Engineer, Architect, Interior Designer, Survey and Mapping Technician are all a part of this group. Construction Workers in this group take the plans that the designers have drafted and put them into a three dimensional structure. Carpenters, Electricians, Masons, Project Managers, and Plumbers are a few of the professions found in this group. Maintenance/Operations These professions are responsible for the upkeep of the structures that others have designed and build. Some of the professions in this group include Code official, Hazardous Material Remover, Construction Inspector, as well as many of the professions responsible for the actual construction of a structure. A little bit about the Arts, A/V Technology & Communications Career Cluster: With in the career cluster of Arts, A/V Technology there are six pathways. Each of these pathways describes a group of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. The six pathways housed under the Arts, A/V Technology & Communications career cluster are: Audio and Video Technology and Film This pathway houses professions that are responsible for engineering sounds and rolling film. For example Audio-Video Designer, Videographer, or Audio Technician are all a part of this group. Printing Technology This pathway houses professions in which workers deal with technology used to print periodicals, books, and all types of printed material. Web Page Designer, Desktop Publishing Specialist, and Plate Maker are a few of the professions found in this category. Visual Arts Visual arts include professions such as curators, photogrphers, painters, art instructors, fashion designers, and commercial artists. Performing Arts These professions include both actual performers, as well as all of the support staff that is required to make a production run. Some jobs that are included in this pathway are, playwright, director, actors, singers, stage lighting, make-up artists, and conductors. Journalism and Broadcasting This pathway includes professions that focus the production, publication, and broadcasting of news, and other printed/video materials. Some of the professions included in this category are Art Director, Editor, Journalist, Publisher, Reporter, and Radio/Television Announcer. Telecommunications Professions in this pathway work specifically with the operations of the TV realm of communications and productions. Systems Designer, Network Designer, Telecommunication Technician, Cable, Line Repairer/ Installer are just a few of the professions included in this pathway. A little bit about the Business Management & Administration Career Cluster: With in the career cluster of Business Management & Administration there are six pathways. Financial Management & Accounting Jobs within this pathway are responsible for the management, accountability, and upkeep of funds operations. Jobs in this group include Treasurer, Auditor, or Certified Public Accountant. Human Resources The focus of this pathway is managing the people who work for a company. Labor relations, industrial-organizational psychologist, corporate trainer, personnel recruiter are all a part of this diverse group. Administrative & Information Support Workers within this pathway are some of the key positions that help a company run. Many of these may be behind-the-scenes but all help a company function smoothly within the business world. Some of the professions from this group include Administrative Assistant, Computer Operator, Legal Secretary, Paralegal, Receptionist, and Stenographer. Business Analysis In this pathway workers are interested in making a company work most effectively by analyzing trends, and keeping data on how any aspect of the business might be working. Some of the professions are Business Consultant, Operations Research Analyst, Product Manager. Management This pathway provides the direction and control over important decisions for a company. Professions include Chief Executive, Operations Manager, Payroll Manager. Marketing and Communications Jobs within this pathway entail effectively selling and displaying products for the general public. A little bit about the Education & Training Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Education & Training there are three areas of concentration often referred to as pathways. Each pathway has many different opportunities, however the common denominator is the close working with students and others to help future grow and develop. The three pathways are: Professional Support Services This pathway includes all jobs outside of the teaching that are necessary for students to succeed in their educational process. Some of the professions within this pathway include, but are not limited to; counselor, speech-language pathologist, and Social Worker. Teaching/Training This pathway includes all the professions that teach or train students of all age levels in a variety of settings. These professions include but are not limited to Elementary Teachers, College/University Faculty, Physical Trainer, Coaches, Child Care Worker. Education Administration and Administrative Support Workers in this pathway help keep schools functioning effectively by managing, leading, supporting district and school level projects. They also perform a wide range of administrative tasks to help schools run smoothly all year. Profession in this category include principles, superintendents, instructional media designer, Curriculum Developer, and Deans. A little bit about the Finance Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Finance there are four areas of concentration often referred to as pathways. Each of these pathways describes a group of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. Along with these similar skills the careers also require similar certifications and/or postsecondary education. The four pathways housed under the Finance career cluster are: Banking and Related Services This pathway houses all professions that make a banking institution function. For example teller, loan officer, credit analyst, mortgage underwriter, and customer service representatives are all a part of this group. Insurance Services Workers in this pathways collaborate and support insurance companies as well as individual policy holders. Insurance underwriters and/or agents, appraisers, actuaries, and underwriters are a few of the professions found in this group. Business Financial Management These professions focus on the directing of larger firms and organizing of investment policies and financial records kept for authorities. An example of some professions in this pathway are tax examiner, auditor, financial analyst, and economist. Financial and Investment Planning These professions emphasize helping others to manage their money. Professions in this pathway include investment advisor, securities underwriter, and stockbroker. A little bit about the Government & Public Administration Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Government & Public Administration there are six career pathways you can pursue. Planning This pathway houses professions that are responsible for deciding what will be done with specific land areas or projects having to do with the division of land. Some of the professions housed in this category include; County Director, Commissioner, Planner, Economic Development Coordinator, Census Enumerator, and Chief of Vital Statistics. Revenue and Taxation Workers in this pathway cover all of the financial collections for the federal, state, and local governments. These jobs include Tax Attorney, Revenue Officer, Inspector General, and Tax Auditor. Governance These professions are responsible for all of the processes of governing at any level. For example, the President, Mayor, Lobbyist, Senator, or Governor are some of the many jobs this group encompasses. Regulation These professions emphasize the enforcement of the laws, policies, and legislations that are both new and established. Bank Examiner, Border Inspector, Election Supervisor, and Immigration Officer are just a few found in this group. National Security This pathway includes professions that focus on the protection of the United States. Some of these professions you may have heard of already, such as: FBI/CIA Agent, Nuclear Weapons Specialist, Submarine Officer, or Cryptographer. Foreign Service Professionals in this pathway are a group of people who represent the interests of the United States abroad in other countries. Jobs in this pathway include: Ambassador, Public Affairs Officer, and Diplomatic Courier. A little bit about the Health Science Career Cluster: Within the career cluster of Health Sciences there are five areas of concentration often referred to as pathways. Each of these pathways describe a group of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. Along with these similar skills the careers also require similar certifications and/or postsecondary education. The five pathways housed under the Health Science career cluster are: Supportive Services This pathway houses professions that are responsible for building and equipment upkeep, and administrative and environmental quality control. For example supply technician, industrial hygienist, health advocate, and maintenance workers are all a part of this group. Information & Communication Services Workers in this pathways are responsible for managing and maintaining medical/health information. Medical transcriptionist, medical records administrator, and medical biller are a few of the professions found in this group. Diagnostic Services These professions focus on the diagnosis of illnesses and diseases. An example of some professions in this pathway are radiologist, geneticist, phlebotomist, or medical technician. Therapeutic Services These professions emphasize the treatment therapy of diseases and disorders. Professions in this pathway include but are not limited to EMT/paramedic, physical therapist, speech pathologist, and physicians. Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Services This pathway includes professions that focus on research and development of new pharmaceuticals, therapies, and biotechnology, such as microbiologists and research lab technician. A little bit about the Hospitality & Tourism Career Cluster: With in the career cluster of Hospitality and Tourism there are four pathways: lodging and housekeeping services, food production and services; recreation, gaming and sports; and travel and tourism services. Each of these pathways describe groups of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. Along with these similar skills the careers also require similar certifications and/or postsecondary education. The four pathways housed under the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster are: Lodging and Housekeeping Services This pathway includes all the jobs required for hotels, motels, inns, and resorts to function and serve guests. Jobs include lodging manager, janitorial worker, front desk attendant, bellhop, concierge, and housekeeper. Food Production and Services This is the largest pathway in this cluster, and includes all the jobs in restaurants, catering services, and anywhere else where food is served. Jobs include waiter, waitress, wine steward, bus person, chef and cook, bartender, food safety inspector, dietician and nutritionist, food technologist, institutional food service worker, and restaurant and facilities manager. Recreation, Gaming, and Sports This career pathway includes jobs in amusement parks, sports stadiums, and recreation centers. Jobs in this pathway are varied, from professional athletes and umpires to amusement park workers, from lifeguards to blackjack dealers. Travel and Tourism Services This pathway comprises all the jobs involved in planning and booking travel reservations, leading tours, and planning special events. Jobs include travel agent, travel promotion worker, tour director, and convention management. 11 Professions within this cluster involve tending to families and human needs. A little bit about the Human Services Career Cluster: With in the career cluster of Human Services there are five pathways: early childhood development and services, counseling and mental health services, family and community services, personal care services, and consumer services. Each of these pathways describe groups of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. Along with these similar skills the careers also require similar certifications and/or postsecondary education. The five pathways housed under the Human Services career cluster are: Early Childhood Development and Services This pathway involves caring for the psychological, physical, and intellectual growth of children, from infancy through adolescence. Some jobs in this pathway include child development specialist, child care worker, parent educator, day care center director, and preschool teacher. Counseling and Mental Health Services The goal of workers in this pathway is to help people who suffer from emotional or mental problems. Jobs include substance abuse counselor, psychologist, school social worker, mental health aide, sociologist, and public health social worker. Family and Community Services Workers in this pathway provide a variety of services that help strengthen family and community life. Adult day care worker, community service worker, food pantry organizer, social worker, volunteer coordinator, and religious counselor are some jobs found in this group. Personal Care Services Workers in this pathway help people feel and look better, and offer services that make people's lives more convenient. Occupations include wedding consultant, personal shopper, party planner, massage therapist, makeup artist, image consultant, cosmetologist, and beautician. Consumer Services These professionals assist the buying public by ensuring that they receive fair treatment in the marketplace. Product safety tester, consumer outreach coordinator, consumer fraud investigator, consumer advisor, and consumer credit counselor are a few of the professions found in this group. 12 the design, support, development, and management of hardware, software multimedia, and system integration services A little bit about the Information Technology Career Cluster: With in the career cluster of Information Technology there are four pathways: information support and services, programming and software development, network systems, and interactive media. Each of these pathways describe groups of careers that require similar technical and academic skills. Along with these similar skills the careers also require similar certifications and/or postsecondary education. The four pathways housed under the Information Technology career cluster are: Information Support and Services This is the largest pathway in IT, and it involves analyzing users' requirements in detail, selecting the best possible solution, writing specifications, and obtaining the necessary hardware. Jobs include data systems designer, help desk technician, application integrator, technical writer, database specialist, data analyst, and maintenance technician. Programming and Software Development People in this pathway design, develop, and produce computer software. They have occupations such as systems analyst, programmer, business analyst, operating systems designer, software architect, software engineer, and applications analyst. Network Systems This pathway includes the workers who establish and maintain links between computers, either within a single office, or across the World Wide Web. Jobs include WAN/LAN technician, communications analyst, systems engineer, network support specialist, network engineer, network administrator, and PC support specialist. Interactive Media Workers in this pathway create computer applications and content based on interactive media technology. Professions include Webmaster, Web designer, digital media specialist, and multimedia author.
