1 SAN ANTONIO ISD COMMUNITY-BASED TASK FORCE PHASE IV April 15, 2009 The second meeting of the Community-based Task Force Phase IV was held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, from 6:00 8:30 p.m. at Mission Academy. The agenda for the meeting is attached. Thirty-six community members and SAISD staff who are serving on the Task Force were in attendance. Dr. Durón thanked the committee for their attendance and work in this initiative. He pointed out that the committee has more expertise in issues of facilities, boundaries, and programs than any other body. Dr. Durón advised the committee of the a Board workshop Monday, April 20 where there will be a discussion of housing the 1900 Head Start students that the district will serve for the school year. This discussion and resulting decisions are on a tight timeline as the contract for the district has just been approved by the city council and will now be approved by the Board. Dr. Duron stated that several options will be presented to the Board, but in any scenario that impacts an existing SAISD campus, the work and proposal of the Task Force has been used as a guide. Dr. Durón also provided the next steps in presenting the Phase 3 or Boundary proposal to the Board and community. A tentative date of May 16 is being considered for a Board workshop for the Task Force to present the proposal to the Board for discussion purposes. Following that, a series of community input meetings will be scheduled. The dates tentatively set for those meetings are the week of June 1-4. Following the community meetings, the Task Force will meet to consider the Board and community feedback in finalizing the proposal to the Board for their action. After Board action on the Boundary proposal, the Phase 4 work will begin to recommend steps in transforming the facilities of SAISD to the standard created in the Findings and Directions. Dr. Roxanne Rosales presented an outline of Career and Technology programs that are currently in place and those that are envisioned for the future of SAISD. These programs will have an impact on secondary school programming and design. (Handout attached.) Danny Modisette of Cambridge Strategic Services reviewed the draft timeline (timeline attached) of the next steps of Phases 3 (boundaries) and 4 (facilities). A tour of Mission Academy was provided to give committee members a view of the standard envisioned for all SAISD schools. The meeting adjourned following the completion of the tour.
