Automation & IT solutions are finding application in various spheres of Process Control and the entire range of steel plant operations, with a view to enhancing the competitive edge of a company. Modern process control and expert systems, energy efficient equipments, seamless automation architecture, production management functions, all are important building blocks of any ideal manufacturing enterprise today and Steel industry is not an exception. Specific benefits include improved plant throughput and productivity, enhanced worker safety, increased energy efficiency, higher process yields, waste product minimization, improved product consistency and uniformity. The continuous research and development in this ever expanding arena necessitates exchange of technical information & experiences among the steel and automation fraternity as also deliberation on challenges and opportunities that exist today and in future. International Conference on Automation and Information Technology in Iron & Steel Making (AITISM) is organised biennially at Ispat Bhawan, R&D Centre for Iron & Steel, Ranchi, with the objective to provide a forum for sharing innovations, discussing challenges and opportunities, exploring research and business opportunities and benchmarking Automation & IT technologies of today and tomorrow for steel industry. Previously held AITISM conferences witnessed an overwhelming participation by Steel Producers, Technologists, Academicians and technology vendors from India and Overseas. The 5 th International Conference on Automation & Information Technology in Iron & Steel Making : Vision 225 (AITISM 6) is being organized by Technology Knowledge Society(TKS), Ranchi in association with R&D Centre for Iron & Steel (RDCIS) Steel Authority of India Limited, Ranchi. AITISM 6 once again aims to provide a unique opportunity for deliberations and exchange of ideas among scientists and technologists from research/ academic institutes, technology developers, steel makers, maintenance & project personnel, consultants and manufacturers to share their experience and find new directions in producing high value products through efficient production processes and management functions. Conference Theme AITISM 6 aims to provide a forum for sharing knowledge & expertise in innovations, state of art systems & technologies being developed and implemented in the area of Automation & IT to enhance the performance of steel industry. In addition, deliberations on topics of fundamental research relevant to Automation & IT for steel will be included. The conference program will include Technical Paper Presentations, Manufacturer Presentations, Technical Exhibition and so on. The broad areas the conference will focus upon are: Innovative Automation, IT and engineering interventions for process Improvement in Mining, Raw Material Handling, Coke Making, Iron & Steel Making, Rolling Mills, Processing Lines, Auxiliaries of Iron and Steel plant Energy Efficient & Environment friendly Automation Systems Modeling and Simulation for Process Control Expert / Knowledge Management Systems Application of Soft Computing Techniques, IT Networking & Information Security Advancement and Futuristic Automation & IT technologies for steel enterprises Computerization of Business Functions through ERP & MES Wireless and Mobile computing for control and information system Innovative engineering interventions providing backbone for Automation & IT systems Mechatronics & Robotics application Any other area related to Automation & IT in Iron and Steel making Call for Contributory Papers Technical papers are invited for presentation in the Conference. Prospective contributors are requested to submit the abstract of not more than 4 words for review preferably through at aitism6@sail-rdcis.com/aitism6@gmail.com. The templates of the abstract can be downloaded from conference website It shall be the endeavor to give preference to papers which deal in new advancement, developments and innovations in the aforesaid areas. All papers submitted shall be original and should not have been presented/ published earlier. All the abstracts will be reviewed by the Technical Committee before their acceptance. Authors of the accepted paper will be requested to submit the full text of paper as per guidelines to be provided along with letter of acceptance. All accepted papers received in time shall be published in Conference proceedings, a copy of which shall be provided to all registered delegates during the Conference. Author(s) of accepted papers who will be attending the conference to present the paper will need to register as a delegate(s) by paying delegate registration fee. The list of the invited keynote speakers will be available in the Conference website as well as in the next circular. Manufacturers' Presentation Manufacturers and technology solution providers dealing with Automation and Information Technology (IT) are invited to the Conference to disseminate technical information about their products/ services / innovations being offered for steel industry through multimedia presentation in 'Manufacturers' Presentation Session' during the Conference. A nominal fee of `,. (US $ 2) shall be charged for each presentation of 25 minutes duration. The charges include free registration of the presenter as delegate. Technical Exhibition With a view to showcase the advancements made in the products and solutions of Automation and Information Technology for Steel Industry, it is planned to organise a Technical Exhibition during the Conference. Technology Suppliers, Equipment Manufacturers, Automation Specialists, Laboratory Equipment Manufacturers, IT Service Providers etc are invited to participate in the technical exhibition to highlight their products and services. Exhibition space of about 3 m x 2.5 m shall be provided to each exhibitor. A nominal fee of ` 8,. (US $ 5) shall be charged for each exhibition stall, which will be provided with adequate furnishing and basic illumination facilities. The charges include free registration of one person as delegate.
