ALPS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT NEW GEOGRAPHICAL PARADIGM first workshop Technopole - Sierre - CH
THE WILL The difficulties to build cross-border initiatives to counter a decline in socio-economic of the Alpine area, which gathers around the axis of the Simplon (between the Valais and the underlying insubric) led a group of Italian and Swiss experts, gathered around the pole HES-SO Valais - Technopole and the University of Milan, to start a process of re-reading and reflection of the geographical space of the Alps with the intent to enable the development of concrete initiatives which focus on the possibilities offered by this region be an abode appropriate to the needs of contemporary life. We believe that a re-reading of these places, the already existing and its resources, away from ideological or nostalgic inclinations, open the search for new paradigms in the relationship between rural and urban condition - including mobility and permanence - between work and leisure - between wealth and well-being - including employment and social commitment - can be found in the territory of the Alps ( transition space par excellence) a useful and fruitful workshop initiatives and projects. Immediately it appeared clear and evident that it is the need for a new look, able to translate and communicate the experience of living in these places in narratives effective, able to inform the contemporary meaning and significance of the dwelling, its needs and of his labors. Only from this look, generating new geographies, new re-writings of the places, we can picture a different future for the Alpine region.

TOOL The tool we considered more appropriate to the pursuit of this objective is the laboratory, the construction of a place in which to grow and share this passionate look at reality, a reality in which you feel the protagonists. A place where the meeting of knowledge and the sharing of critical projects involved young people and people with more experience in a path of conscious involvement with local realities and the issues posed by the global dimension of individual existences. We believe that the Alpine region of the Simplon, this space so full of beauty, history, fatigue, fragile and resources, can be an ideal laboratory, an observation point of excellence, where the definition of a venture projects in can inform - and transform - the contemporary urban condition. The excellence territorial dell HES -SO Valais, and the University of Milan are intertwined issues from the Simplon route infrastructure. We chose to start with these two important realities that are responsible for the formation and growth of the most valuable resources available, the person and his property, precisely because of the belief that every project is first and foremost the most hopeful gesture with which the man enters into relationship with reality. From these considerations, the Working Group launched in the Technopole in Sierre has promoted four moments of reflection as a joint initiative in preparation for a larger project, a veritable laboratory for research and educational experimentation that it would start with the participation of the actors of the institutional reality of the two courses ( HES- SO - UNIMI ) and the same Technopole, in the academic year 2014/15. We look at EXPO 2015 as a special opportunity to go back and rethink the way that we want to situate in these dynamics, we hope that the people involved in the organization of this that it will be the most important international event can grow a true and fruitful relationship, able to mature, in the way proposed, the planning and the realization that we all desire.
W1 ALPINE SPACE OF SEMPION A crossing of glances between Milan and Valais. Among today, the Expo and the Post-Expo 2015 During the first of four planned workshops we will face all over the field on the proposal and provocations that, even briefly, we have sent with this call. Our hope is to receive contributions that, from your experience, from your privileged observers, will help us to identify these looks and suck tracks, routes, experiences capable of competing for the stated purpose. What tools and resources which are indispensable today to build a new geography of where living, architecture, landscape and the enterprise contribute to a shared wellness in an exceptional area like the Alps? The role of the laboratory in a research and design. Illustration of the successive phases of the work and goodbye at the opening of the next workshop.
