2 Hacking Future Policies In the age of Artificial Intelligence, how could algorithms be regulated to promote cyber-security and ethical standards? When speaking about Gender Diversity and Leadership, will women really benefit from the digitalisation of the workplace? How will the transition to a Circular Economy influence the future of environmental policy? How will Cryptocurrencies and Automation influence the future of money, work and society? With a Politics by Design Hackathon in Berlin, we together with young change-makers aim to develop new solutions for these and other current political issues. Applying Design Thinking in a Hackathon set up, facilitates rapid solution testing and connects people with various expertise in a goal oriented team setup. It helps to include diverse people into a creative process to shape the future of our world.

3 What is a Hackathon? A hackathon is an event where interdisciplinary teams work together to solve a challenge within 24 hours. At the Polithon, teams of students and professionals will deal with challenges in technological fields such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies or social media. The task for teams is to think about these challenges from a political or societal perspective. Solutions might be policy drafts or social startup ideas. At the end of the 24 hours, teams present their work and a winning team for each challenge is selected by a jury. Day 1 Day 2 Kick-off (9 10 am) Phase 4 (12 am 6 am) Welcoming and introduction to Realizing ideas in the shape of the challenges, getting to know different prototypes and further the teams development of the idea. Phase 1 (11 am 2 pm) Breakfast & warm-up Understanding the topic Phase 5 (6 am 11 am) Lunch break & warm-up Testing of the idea, preparation of the final solution and Phase 2 (3 7 pm) presentation. Observe & Define: Conduct Coffee break & snacks research and collect the results. 4 What is Design Thinking? Design Thinking will be the guiding approach for the Polithon. It will empower teams to come up with innovative and sustainable ideas. Design Thinking is a modern approach to find solutions for complex challenges. It is particularly centered on humans and contains many creative and playful methods that break conventional thinking paradigms. Through iterative design cycles as well as the development and testing of prototypes, the solution approaches are gradually optimized.
