Jean-Pierre Sittler, well-known in the plastics sector for his technical expertise and creativity, presents his vision for its development. Jean-Pierre Sittler

3 DINAMIC EMBALLAGES and CM-CIC Investissement, a combination that packs a punch. What is Dinamic Emballages core business? Jean-Pierre Sittler: We specialise in the manufacture of injection-moulded plastic items and possess particular expertise in packaging and packaging components. In 1984, I launched the business when I won the contract to manufacture the mini-champagne bottle for Miko ice creams. Since then, we have produced close to 200 million units. At the same time, we started working with L Oréal, thanks to a patented technique giving plastic the appearance of frosted glass. Today, the cosmetics (40%) and agrifood (25%) sectors remain our principal client industries. That said, we also work with pharmaceutical-related companies (contact lens cases) and technical components for the manufacturing and construction sectors, including equipment for roller shutters. This diversity in the sectors of activity we supply and in the degree of technical expertise needed to make products is one of our key distinguishing features and forms one of our strengths. So innovation lies at the heart of your development? J-P. S.: Absolutely. Unlike our rivals, most of whom merely process products, we are product designers. What s more, close to half of our sales is generated by in-house innovations. Take our quarter-turn service capsule, for example, with the central opening used for honey jars: the product development took us seven to eight years, but it now accounts for a hefty proportion of our business. Do you invest much in R&D? J-P. S.: It may surprise you to learn this, but innovation is not concentrated in a specific unit, but takes place right across the business, and the time it takes is not accounted for separately. When I meet customers, I first try to understand what their needs are and to find the best solutions from both a technical and a manufacturing perspective. That s applied research. In a fiercely competitive market, how do you manage to maintain an edge? J-P. S.: We are well-known for our very high level of technical proficiency and our reliability. And our organisation is highly integrated. We build our own assembly machines and have our own machining workshop for development work. We also produce our own prototyping moulds. That approach enabled us to gain ISO 9000 certification in 1995, with ISO following suit in 2007.

4 What are your avenues of development at present? J-P. S.: We continue to focus on product innovation, particularly in the pharmaceutical-related market, including a new cotton swab replacing traditional cotton buds. We are also working on a new sterile pump system for eye drops. How long have you been working with CM-CIC Investissement? J-P. S.: Since Originally, we needed support on a link-up with an Italian business specialised in bioplastics. After five years of cooperation, the deal did not yield the expected benefits, and so we decided to go our own separate ways again. CM-CIC Investissement then helped us to bounce back by unwinding our alliance, then conducting a capital reorganisation to restore my majority shareholding. It stands out on account of: the quality, technical proficiency and reliability of its production, the high level of innovation achieved for a business of its size, its customer base of prestigious names, particularly in the cosmetics and agrifood industry. Thierry Wendling We have supported it since 2007 with its developments, including with its acquisitions in and outside France. This strategy has not paid off in every case because the manager s high standards are, unfortunately, all too rare. That said, Dinamic Emballages continues to develop new products that will soon be on pharmacy shelves and in bathrooms. These products will enable the company to embark on a new phase of growth.
