5 DHS S&T s Six Technical Divisions Explosives Division - detect, prevent and mitigate explosives attacks against people and infrastructure. Chemical/Biological Division - detect, protect against, respond to, and recover from potential biological or chemical events Command, Control, and Interoperability Division - enable seamless and secure interactions/communications among diverse homeland security stakeholders. Borders and Maritime Security Division - prevent contraband, criminals and terrorists from entering the U.S. while permitting the lawful flow of commerce and visitors. Human Factors/Behavioral Sciences Division - identify and analyze threats, enhance societal resilience, and integrate human capabilities in technology development. Infrastructure/Geophysical Division - strengthen situational awareness, emergency response capabilities and critical infrastructure protection.

30 Magnetic Vision (MagViz) Innovation/HSARPA Project Reliable, streamlined airport security screening allows passengers to keep liquids, increases throughput, improves security Employs ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging for bulk detection of liquid, semi-solid explosives, components Goals: Seamless screening of passenger carry-on bags for liquid, semi-solid explosives, components. Compact, inexpensive Bottled Liquid Scanner system for individual liquid containers. 32 Stopping Vehicles and Vessels Safe Quick Undercarriage Immobilization Device (SQUID) becomes entangled in the undercarriage of a vehicle, bringing it to a halt Less-lethal capability to compel, stop, or significantly slow noncompliant target vessels by dropping a net from a helicopter in front of the vessel, which becomes entangled into the vessel s propeller and engine
