1 Conference CULTURAL AND CREATIVE CROSSOVERS Partnering culture with other sectors to maximize creativity, growth and innovation Within the framework of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union March 11-12, 2015 National Library of Latvia, Riga The conference organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and co-financed by the European Commission aims to encourage a debate over the contribution and impact of cultural and creative crossovers to growth, innovation, sustainable development and well-being of society. In this context the cultural and creative crossovers (also called spill-overs) describe the contribution of culture and culture-based creativity to other domains. The conference highlights these crossovers as an input for development of other sectors, including education, economy, technologies and social innovation, with the objective to foster social cohesion and cultural diversity, and as a boost for smart urban planning and regional development. Location: Railway Museum, Riga It will be an event organized specially for participants of the conference to give them a real taste of Latvian creative industries. The Creative Fusion will be built of various components: Latvian traditional cuisine, Latvian musicians and video projections that will give an insight in Latvian creative industries. This event will be developed as an interactive continuation of the conference and an essential component of the whole conference concept. Participants will learn about effective design thinking methods to find solutions to different challenges. They will have a possibility to test out these methods in practice with the guidance by experienced designers. A detailed programme to follow CHOICE 3: Field trip on Contemporary and historic architecture of Riga. A special guided route providing examples of architecture according to the theme of the workshop culture and urban/regional development (for example, wooden architecture in Ķīpsala, creative quarters of Riga, the Tobacco Factory and the interaction between contemporary architecture and heritage). 5
