Volker Telljohann gave a short introduction to IRES Emilia-Romagna 3. Steen Høyrup presented an outline of the history of EDI: The European network of Employee-driven innovation. Outline of history of EDI-network The founder of the EDI-network was Kirsten Møller who organized a group of researchers at DPU (The Danish University of Education, later merged into a department of Aarhus University) to submit an application to the Strategic Research Council in Denmark for resources to develop an European network in the field of Employee-driven innovation.(edi) The purpose of the EDI-network project is to collect existing research-based knowledge about employee-driven innovation and workplace learning in small and medium-sized enterprises and to form a European network for relevant European players (researchers, social partners, and businesses, organisational and educational consultants/institutions) who are interested in dealing with employee-driven innovation. The application was met. For 2½ years networks activities was granted by Euro. Furthermore LO the Danish confederation of Trade Unions supported the project by hosting two international conferences in Copenhagen. In addition to this the involved Universities supported the project through working hours for the researchers. 1

2 In this 2½-years founded period, about 14 European countries, 22 research institutions and 50 researchers/consultants did participate in EDI-network activities. Some elected Products of the EDI-network are: 5 international conferences: 2 conferences in Copenhagen (Jan. and Sep. 2008, a conference and seminar in Brussels 2009, a seminar in Twente University, the Netherlands, Oct.2009, a seminar in Paris 2010, and the present seminar in Bologna Oct Research production: - Special Issue of transfer (European Review of Labour and Research Quarterly of the EDUI Research Department): Employee-driven innovation and workplace learning. transfer, Summer 2010, Vol 16 Number 2. Editorial: Steen Høyrup, Kirsten Møller and Robson Sø Rocha. - Anthology on Palgrave Macmillan (in press, to be published spring 2012): Høyrup, S., Bonnafous-Boucher, M., Hasse, C., Lotz, M. and Møller, K.(ed) Employee-Driven Innovation. A new Approach. - Production of a sample of research papers, indicating state of the art of EDI in the involved countries and outlines of potential research potentials and research principles to be pursued in collaborative research- and developmental projects Applications for research- and networking resources. Unfortunately not met: - EU 7 programme - European science Foundation Creating a network-organization in the field of EDI, including relations to researchers outside Europe (e.g. Australia) 4. Presentation of Participants in the research meeting 28 persons from universities, research institutes, international organisations (Eurofound), confederations of trade unions and Funding Agencies - from 9 European countries, did participate in the research meeting: Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, UK, Slovenia, Germany, Finland and Italy. Some members jointed the network for the first time. Each presented short comments to their research in the field of Employee-Driven Innovation. Please see appendix: list of participants. 5. Participants did presents (part of ) their research in the field. Research papers and powerpoints were presented. The presentation was followed by questions and discussions. Funding possibilities The foolowing FP7-SSH-Cooperation theme 8, 2012 was presented and discussed: Unvailing creativity for innovation in Europe Education systems in the 21.st century Social innovation against inequalities Social innovation in the public sector Several of these themes was of great interest for the participants, but at the moment it was not sure if any got the time and resources to elaborate an application. 4

Future activities and tasks in the EDI network 8.1 Collaboration with EUROFOUND: European Foundation for the improvement of Living and Working Conditions Wyattville Road, Loughlinstown, Dublin 18, Ireland Research Manager Manuel Ortigao, Eurofound invited the EDI-network to cooperation and did present potentials and possibilities in this collaboration related to the phases in Eurofound s program activities. (Please see att.file: workorginnov. In the mail from Volker Teljohann of 22.November 2011.) The work of Eurofound is structured on periods of 4-years. It is estimated, that it is not possible for EDI to be involved in the present 4-years period, as it is going to finish in a short time. We did elaborate the main structures for a future strategy in relation to EuroFound: A goal is establish EDI on European workplaces as one of the basic research themes of the next 4-year period: The planning of this 4-year period is going to start soon. Means of the strategy is to elaborate and give input and inspiration to the planning process of this 4- years period. These inputs could be elaborated on a conference in Dublin, maybe in April 2012, in collaboration with Manuel Ortiago. Manuel Ortiago kindly expressed willingness to host such an EDI-meeting in Dublin. Anthony Kallevig Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and Henrik Finsrud Work Research Institute, Oslo, - was highly involved in the elaboration of these considerations and plans, and kindly expressed willingness to support this process in the future. A conference-group comprised of Catharina Juul Kristensen, Volker Telljohan and Henrik Finsrud myself was put together at the end of the Bologna-meeting, to continue this plans. 8.2 Consolidating the network organization A need was expressed to strengthen the structure of the organization. 6 A conference group. A conference-group comprised of Catharina Juul Kristensen, Volker Telljohan and Henrik Finsrud. Work area: Dublin conference and collaboration with Eurofound. 8.3 Funding in the future The discussion made it clear that the EDI-network could not work without resources for its activities. The following two itema was proposed as having the greatest potentials: - European Science Foundation Research Networking programmes - The area of life long learning. We will work for funding. Guy van Gyes kindly would give support to this work. 8.4 What kind of network are we going to develop? We agreed upon that our network should constitute a platform for implementing innovation, this way including pure research and applied research (and maybe action research) activities. 8.5 Collaboration in relation to participation in international conferences. A group from the network stand for a stream at a conference, and the possibility to submit conference papers. In a later mail of 9.12 Eli inform us about her excellent work: Dear Colleagues, as agreed in Bologna, we have now submitted a sub-theme proposal for EGOS 2013, see attachment. Best, Eli 8.6 We have to open up our network and include new participants that want to join us 8.7 EDI-research within the single country or between a few countries Some initiatives and possibilities exist on this level, e.g. on the Nordic level. Some precautions were expressed that this kind of organizing our research could exclude some groups of researchers. At the same time such initiatives could give inspiration for more comprehensive research cooperation. Minutes above are elaborated by Steen Høyrup.
