O Not 1:1 with computers O Have 450 computers in trolleys, in cupboards O Have 852 students (Not FLO) O Predicting 199 Year 8 students in 2013 O Expecting 100 Year 12s and have an obligation to ensure they have access to computers O In a nutshell, 400 computers under stocked

13 IF we had 1:1 Computers at Year 8, how would you use this resource with your Year 8 class(es)? O For Drama, I would spend the last 15 minutes of each lesson doing an Edmodo Chat to discuss the lesson. PE - could use it to give them video footage of their own technique and get them to analyse their strengths and weaknesses. They would also use it for research purposes (depending if Health/PE still taught as one subject in Year 8)

14 IF we had 1:1 Computers at Year 8, how would you use this resource with your Year 8 class(es)? O Students would need to be able to research and use tutorials on the net and be able to download Google Sketchup for use at home. O Technology is the way of the future in terms of learning and students need a 1:1 program for our curriculum to be implemented efficiently.

15 IF we had 1:1 Computers at Year 8, how would you use this resource with your Year 8 class(es)? O I would switch from science note books to all student work and reports written on the laptop. This would be exciting to able to have the ability to jump from research to student written response. I'm assuming we would have maths and science texts loaded onto each child's computer. This will be fantastic!

16 IF we had 1:1 Computers at Year 8, how would you use this resource with your Year 8 class(es)? O 1:1 computer access would assist in expanding students' ability for self guided learning as well as providing new opportunities for research and presentation formats. Also, a collaborative learning environment is more achievable through incorporation of ICT, which allows students to comment/ provide feedback/ research and learn in a connected environment. 1:1 laptop use would also ensure all students are provided with an equal opportunity at improving their ICT ability for use in adult life. Overall, engagement would also be highly improved for particular students.

18 What have we discovered about ourselves? O We have made significant progress since the DER O All staff are using Laptops to record rolls, write reports and communicate through s O Some staff are accessing online learning tools to improve educational outcomes for their students

19 What have we discovered about ourselves? O We have committed to a great deal of training and development for our staff and their knowledge and understanding O We have invested a great deal of time and money into our school network and infrastructure O We have become confident users of Apple MacBooks

20 Why not ipads? Why we think a computer is the way to go.?

22 What is our recommendation? O In a nutshell, to have every student at WHS owning their own Laptop for their learning across all areas of the curriculum O To ensure every student is given the best opportunity to achieve their desired educational outcomes O To make sure we addressed each of the questions/concerns already raised by Governing Council members

23 After the first meeting O The school made a decision to be an Apple school at the start of DER and we will continue with Apple MacBooks due to the built in software, familiarity, staff training and development and proven longevity O We compared durability and specifications, especially weight in response to Governing Council s query, and discovered the MacBook Air 11 is 1.08kg O We have had 2 meetings with Apple Providers

26 Comparison O Both companies were compared on the basis of: O Cost to Parents O Training offered to staff O Servicing of machines, including costs and turnaround time O Technical support offered to assist in the set up of infrastructure to ensure success of the program

27 Recommendation O Our company of choice is Xcite Logic O They provide services already to the school in terms of repairs and imaging and WHS already has a relationship with these individuals O They have a (ex) teacher in their employ and they run a variety of Training and Development opportunities
