10 The CATO Toolbox The CATO CBRN Toolbox will have an open architecture, which will have five major sub-systems 1. User interface: Through the CATO User Interface different stakeholders will interact with the system. Two types of generic user interfaces can be distinguished, Operational User Interfaces and the General Public Interface. 2. Core: Through the CATO User Interface, users will access the Applications in the CATO Core. These Applications will guide the users in the main usage situations: Planning, Simulation, Response and Debriefing. 3. Knowledge Base: The different engines composing the applications will be parameterised with the templates for entities, procedures, algorithms, scenarios and plans in the CATO Knowledge Base. 4. Algorithms: Through the Algorithm Description templates in the CATO Knowledge Base, the CATO Core system will call upon the collection of CATO Algorithms, which will be tailored to the requirements of specific users and evolve over time. 5. System interfaces: The CATO Core will interact with the systems of the different involved agencies and the different public media (including interactive media such as the web and mobile phones) through the CATO System Interfaces. 02/04/

13 Learning about CBRN attacks: the CATO Laboratory The CATO Lab is both an example of a prototype implementation of a DSS using the CATO Toolbox and a tool for user dialogue Physical CATO Lab o CATO equipped facility to support discussions between policy makers and senior incident commanders Virtual CATO Lab o Accessed via the Internet ( (for CATO Community members) Trial versions of technology components Designed to encourage end user feedback on work in progress, while also supporting a real capability for end users to deliver CBRN exercises during the CATO project lifetime Used for training and demo purposes 02/04/
