Lexicon paves the way for CSE Department to showcase its various talents, initiative, happenings, proceedings and students achievements to help establish better connect with students, their parents, faculty members and all linked with the institution. 2 A B O U T T H E D E P A R T M E N T Department of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 2008 with the primary objective of providing total quality education in the field of Computer Science and Engineering to meet the challenges in emerging trends by producing quality professionals. The department has excellent infrastructure facilities with a variety of operating platforms to prepare the professional students to conquer the demands of the IT industry.. The Department offers an excellent academic environment with a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculties with 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor,7 Assistant professors and 2 Lecturers. One Associate Professor and one Assistant professors are towards pursuing Ph.D in the area of Computer Networking under VTU and has published more than 08 research papers in National, International conferences, Journals and Seminars.. The Department has recently signed an MOU with EMC2 to empower the technical skills of faculty and students in the area of storage technologies. A B O U T E P I C S E Enhanced Perspective towards Innovation, Creation, Succession and Excellence The EPICSE is a computer science students association organized by the students and for the CSE students to boost their behavioral, organizational and communication skills along with showing their talent, creativity and artistic nature among all. With this association they also learn to work as a team, fulfilling their responsibilities with positive attitude. Along with technical and non technical games, technical talks are also conducted to make all CSE students aware of new technologies and the emerging trends which can guide them to select the progress path in their future. Even this association opens their hands to do some social programmes also. 2

4 A R T I C L E Remote Healthcare using Body Sensor Networks: an Application Perspective Anand kumar M, Asst. Prof., Dept. of CS&E A c c o r d i n g t o t h e D e p a r t m e n t of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, the elderly population (persons of age 60 years and over) in the world in 2010 was 759 million and projected to be 1,198 million in 2025, or 15% of world population. Since the people belonging to this age group are susceptible to various health issues, they tend to require more frequent healthcare treatment. However, it is considered inconvenient and costly if they have to periodically do medical check-ups in healthcare facilities that are located far from their home, not to mention the fact that they are much less mobile than younger ones. Moreover, the cost of healthcare for the elderly is more expensive than that for other aged groups. Since most of healthcare expenditures are intended to serve elderly people, this situation could become a big challenge in the future if not taken seriously, given the limited resources. Fig: Body sensor Network and its Environment Besides the healthcare cost issue, the traditional health monitoring system imposes the problem of inaccuracy. Usually, patients are monitored only at a certain point of time, and the next monitoring occurs after a considerable period of time. This would lead to incomprehensive health diagnosis. For example, a healthy patient might be diagnosed to have high blood pressure, whereas, in fact, that misdiagnosis is caused by exhaustion after he walks to the clinic. Therefore, a non-intrusive, ambulatory, continuous, yet economical health monitoring system needs to be developed to achieve a better and complete picture of health diagnosis and reduce the cost of healthcare. Currently, small and intelligent sensor devices can be attached on or even implanted into the human body, thanks to the advancement of microelectronics and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). These battery-powered devices gather patients' vital signs and send it to medical workers, e.g., physicians and nurses, for further examination and analysis. There might be more than one sensor device attached to the body. The wired connections between devices for collecting data are not effective, troublesome or even impossible for daily use. As a solution, the sensors are equipped with wireless transceivers, so that they can communicate wirelessly to transmit the sensed data. This type of network is called Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs). 4

S.L.Ramachandra, Honorable Treasurer of NIE group of Institutions. The inauguration was followed by a technical talk delivered by our esteemed Principal Dr.Vidya Raj C regarding the topic Problem Solving Techniques. Technical Talk and Workshop A technical talk on MYSQL was organized as an FDP by Mr. Rangnath of NIE college on August,5,2013 A technical talk on Google Apps was held on March,15,2014 by Global Talent track Pvt Ltd. Industrial Visit Industrial visit to Unilog Pvt. Ltd. On February,22,2014.Mr. Machaiya and team guided the students of III year, CSE. The students were exposed to Big data, Hadoop and ERP. 5
