14 NEREUS-Platform For its members NEREUS wants to provide a platform: enhancing the growing role of citizens in the development of European space policy and markets for information and knowledge exchange for networking and building strong partnerships for mobilising convincing projects and activities sharing experiences

17 EO/GMES-Working group Co-chaired by Prof Alan Wells, East Midlands and Ms. Sonia Nicolau, Azores Mapping the capabilities and expertise in GMES end user applications in the regions Produced a promotional brochure of 25 GMES-Uses in NEREUS-member regions

18 25-GMES-Uses concrete GMES-applications at regional level Pan-European collaboration: 17 regions contributed to the collection in different domains: land, maritime, atmosphere and civil emergencies

19 GMES Advanced Urban Applications in Madrid urban environmental quality analysis Using EO imagery a methodology has been generated that allows regional authorities to improve the detection of pollutants materials such as asbestos used in roofs in earlier times; areas treated with fertilizer from pig farms; junkyards. 20 Development of Fire Propagation Simulator/CASTILLA Y LEÓN Accurate and high resolution fuel data are needed for fire prevention and use in operational decision support systems in fire fighting tasks. For this purpose, the project has acquired fuel data from object oriented analysis on Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite imagery Example of Fire Propagator outputs

21 DORIS_Net-Project DORIS: Downstream Observatory organised by Regions active In Space Bremen (CEON) mobilised project proposal for FP7- Space/GMES-call in 2009 Support Action - Fostering downstream activities and links with regions Project proposal was selected by European Commission and will start beginning NEREUS-partners involved in project activities NEREUS officially supports project 21

23 NEREUS Position Paper A regional approach to the European Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) programme Main goals of the Position Paper: 1. To inform relevant European authorities about the priorities and the requirements of regional and local public authorities. 2. To promote the awareness and debate inside the regions about the possibilities (present and future) of GNSS services and applications Document elaborated by the WG and approved by the NEREUS Management Board on 17 November 2009

24 Collection of regional experiences in the field of GNSS GNSS promotion centres, living labs, special regional procurement schemes, demonstration areas, masters competition, technology survey and mappings, centres of excellence, incubators, technological platforms technology transfer programmes, testing and simulation tools, specific calls for tenders, investors forum to raise the private funding needed by SMEs, projects funded at European, national or regional level.

25 CET Working Group (1) CET: Communication, Education and Training Co-chaired by Martina Hilger, Bremen and Malecka Saleman, CNES Started with mapping activities of University Learning Resources in the field of space technologies in the NEREUS regions Collects best-practices of space education

26 CET Working Group (2) CET-Working Group: Proposal by Working Group to create web-based based database: e-catalogue for education formation and training in NEREUS Regions Proposed data base builds on existing material of Arianne Cities user-friendly and more efficient Tool increases visibility of network Example of a tangible outcomes
