Work Experience University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign M.S. in Electrical Engineering awarded August Advisor: Dr. William H. Sanders. GPA: 3.9/4.0. Thesis: Connection as a Decomposition Technique. Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York B.S. in Computer Engineering awarded June GPA: 3.9/4.0. IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York, 2/05 - present Research Staff Member. Worked on next generation Power processor design since 2008, including the POWER8 microprocessor. The main focus of this work has been the design and performance analysis of the memory subsystem using trace driven, queuing, and spreadsheet analysis. Additional work has focused on system scalability, memory coherence, and network interconnects, as well as system reliability and availability. Previously worked on performance modeling, analysis, and design for a variety of novel computer memory subsystem features. Earlier work focused on the use of large collection of servers in a scale-out configuration. This work included two major pieces: the development of an automated system management and provisioning system called HOP- SCOTCH; and the implementation of and analysis of key computational kernels of financial applications on the BlueGene supercomputer. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, 6/98-2/05 Research Assistant. Researched techniques to increase the state-space size of models that could be solved using Markovian techniques. Collaborated with researchers from other universities as well as industrial sponsors. Also contributed to the design and development of the Möbius modeling framework. IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, NY, 5/01-8/01 Internship. Developed models of service levels in e-commerce systems using Webservices, for the evaluation of service-level agreements. The work was published in DSOM 2002.

Describes a new theory to increase the size of models of discrete event systems that can be solved using existing Markovian analysis techniques. The theory provides a framework to reduce the complexity of a model while ensuring bounds on the error of the model solution. The framework is then used to develop techniques to automatically exploit the theory. Markovian modeling of systems is a technique used to gauge the performance, dependability, and performability of systems. It can be used to aid design decisions by evaluating a range of design options for a range of environments, and it can be used to increase understanding of operational systems. Unfortunately, Markovian modeling is limited by the state-space explosion, which is the exponential growth of the state space of a Markovian model as detail is added to the model.
4 David Daly 4 Journal Publications Invited Papers Aggregation and decomposition techniques can be used to solve, at an acceptable level of accuracy, Markovian models that are more than an order of magnitude more complex than models solvable by current techniques, and the aggregation and decomposition techniques can be automated in many cases. We prove that claim by extending existing aggregation techniques to develop a new partial order that we apply to the solution of large models. In the partial order, if one state is larger than another state, then all of the reward variables will be greater for all instants and intervals of time if the model starts in the first state instead of the second state. We show how the partial order can be computed, how it can be used to generate aggregates and compare aggregates to an original model, and how it can be applied to compositionally defined models. We then use the developed aggregation and decomposition techniques to solve models that would be infeasible to solve otherwise. Master s Thesis: Connection as a Decomposition Technique. Connection is the process of solving models separately and passing the results from one model to other models to be used in their solution. We describe connection as a decomposition technique, to be used in the solution of very large models with behavior at many time scales. Use of connection can lead to greater efficiency in time and space in the solution of large models, at the expense of accuracy. This work analyzes this trade-off for a class of models, including a case study of a real system, and begins the general analysis of connection. Jeffrey Stuecheli, Dimitris Kaseridis, Lizy K.
