1 IIKE Flagship Awards - call for Thematic Areas Information Session and Q&A
2 Aim: - To identify clusters of activity that can be bought together to create thematic areas of strategic importance: - More ambitious investments - Greater impact from across our EPSRC portfolio Opportunity: - Apply for up to 200k - Could be distributed between 4-6 coordinated/linked projects/activities - It is expected that 2 or 3 awards will be made via this initial call
3 Please note - These awards do not replace the existing IIKE Pipeline process - You can still apply for IIKE funds at any time in the usual way via your Faculty KE Delivery Team
4 Key dates: - EOI Deadline: 5th May at 4pm - Panel Review: 18th May - Shortlisting & feedback given: 19th May - Interviews & decisions made: TBC - All activity must be completed by March 2020
5 Process: - Contact your Faculty KE Delivery Team - KE Delivery Teams (with support from R&IS) will coordinate the EOIs in terms of identifying links and avoiding duplication - EOIs will ideally be led by someone of sufficient experience and seniority who will perform the role of Thematic Area Manager - Details of the interviews, in terms of dates and what is required, will be confirmed in due course
6 Assessment criteria: - Demonstrable impact from a wide range of perspectives that fulfils our potential through the current and future REF exercises - Development of high quality research partnerships - increase in collaborative and/or contract income - Strategic reasoning behind the creation of each thematic area and the grouping of projects/activities within them - Evidence that the coordinated activity will be managed effectively - Ambitious aims and objectives - Multi/inter-disciplinary activity
7 Assessment criteria: - Alignment with broader strategies (Including, but not limited to, REF, Global Challenges, Industrial Strategy) - Relevant engagement with: - major Centres of Excellence (e.g. across the N8) - non-academic partners - non-iaa funded HEIs - Confidence that a program of activity can be defined swiftly so that it can commence by the Autumn Value for money EOIs should include a statement about how the award will be used to leverage other sources of funding and/or in-kind support
