Association MX On Tour is an association composed of a committee of 8 people, who represent 20 students enrolled in their 3 rd year of bachelor in Materials Science and Engineering at the Swiss

We will explore Japanese universities and will visit some of the world s most famous enterprises that make Japan one of the most advanced country in term of science.

2 Association MX On Tour is an association composed of a committee of 8 people, who represent 20 students enrolled in their 3 rd year of bachelor in Materials Science and Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). This committee is in charge of organizing a study trip in order to nicely end a chapter of our life: our bachelor. We will explore Japanese universities and will visit some of the world s most famous enterprises that make Japan one of the most advanced country in term of science. This trip aims to give a broad outlook on the international perspectives that our engineering formation has to offer, as well as to discover a new culture. This project will allow students to acquire a new set of skills such as finding sponsors, developing a network with enterprises or universities, and managing the organization of events. These skills are greatly appreciated in the professional world and therefore are fundamental towards our engineer s formation.

Why choose Materials Science at EPFL? First of all, Materials Science is a multidisciplinary science that links physic, chemistry, mathematics and biology.

3 Why choose Materials Science at EPFL? First of all, Materials Science is a multidisciplinary science that links physic, chemistry, mathematics and biology. Its purpose is to study the structure and the matter from an atomistic level to a macroscopic level in order to predict and optimize the properties of a material. The aim is to create the most efficient material depending on the applications or requirements. The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of EPFL regroups 27 research laboratories that provide technological progresses in many various domains such as energy, biomedical, aerospace engineering, civil engineering and metallurgy. EPFL offers an education of quality, opened to the world and dynamic. It counts students and coworkers, of 110 different nationalities, spread over 26 institutes and 300 laboratories. Moreover, the Innovation Park, located on campus, is the home of plenty of enterprises and the origin of more than 200 start-ups. Since a few years, EPFL has been one of the main institutions for innovation in Europe, offering a stimulating environment and staying in close touch with the professional world. EPFL hosts many conferences, expositions and conventions taking place at the Rolex Learning Center, the SwissTech Convention Center and more recently Artlab. «I would like to thank you in advance for according the best welcome to the request of our students, and to trust their teamwork and enterprising spirit. 4 Our Trip Our trip is meant to be both academic and cultural. Visits of laboratories, enterprises and universities are opportunities to improve our outlook on the practical world and the international reach of Materials science. It is also a way to discuss and exchange about the ways to learn our subject with Japanese students. Finally, MX On Tour will take charge of housing, transport, activities and meals for everyone, making sure that the final price is accessible for all. Thus, organizing this trip for 40 students is a challenge that we are pleased to take up. During this trip, we will visit Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, specialized in the production of steel, Toyota Motor, one of the most famous enterprises in the automobile, and Toshiba Corporation, specialized in electronics. We will also have the opportunity to discover the University of Tokyo and the National Institute for Materials Science.

The association organizes throughout the year multiple events on the campus such as a Jass tournament (a swiss card game), or a wine sale. Furthermore, we will run a booth during Vivapoly, the festival of all EPFL associations. At each of these events we present all our different sponsors through displays and flyers scattered all over campus. Moreover, we have a Facebook page and a website with all the latest activities concerning the association. A page is dedicated to all our contributors and your logo will be visible on our social Medias. During our trip, a presentation of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering and the concept of our association will be proposed to the laboratories and Japanese companies that we will be visiting. Indeed, the flight tickets, train tickets between the different cities in Japan as well as the day-to-day journeys are included.
