1 EAST SUSSEX FIRE AUTHORITY Job Description Work Designation: People & Organisational Development Location: Service Headquarters Job Title Graphic Design & Visual Imaging Technician Rank or Grade: JF 3 Responsible To: AD of Planning and Improvement MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB To provide and advise on graphics, photography, audio visual services and service publications to support the corporate requirements of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. 2 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF JOB General 1. Provide a range of professional graphic design and audiovisual services to support communications and to promote the Service taking into account available resources (both time and financial). 2. To develop and maintain corporate standards prescribed for graphic design, photography and multimedia production. 3. To promote and develop corporate image and brand identity in accordance with ESFRS specifications. 4. To comply, where appropriate, with relevant information systems policies. 5. To undertake, from time to time, other relevant duties, i.e. publicity events, social media activity, drafting press releases, attending external and internal committees and community safety initiatives. Print, publications and design 6. To assist and advise customers on drafting and the development of design briefs. To attend meetings between internal/external customers to advise/develop graphic design solutions and/or visual imaging solutions to meet customer requirements and deliver cost-effective solutions. 7. To liaise and collate quotations to enable completion of design projects to meet customer requirements including but not limited to external printing, print materials and banner stand suppliers 8. To monitor and maintain workloads and projects to meet organisational deadlines. 9. To sub-edit and proof read corporate publications to safeguard the quality of published material whilst ensuring the content remains effective. 10. To provide graphic design input and advice for Service s Intranet and Internet sites and provide draft content for website and social media sites as directed by the Communications and Marketing Manager. 11. To advise on the purchase of hardware/software specific to the graphic design and visual imaging function. 12. To maintain competence in the operation of graphic design technology, visual imaging techniques and IT systems to ensure high quality service delivery. Photography and audio visual 13. Undertake all photography for the promotion of the Service through Marketing and communications activity to internal and external audiences. 14. Provision of photographic images for use by the media and third parties as directed by the Communications and Marketing Manager. 15. Management of permissions from individuals for image usage, regularly reviewing and updating permissions as appropriate to ensure compliance with all current and appropriate legislation. 16. Provide a range of professional audiovisual services to support the production of training and educational packages in to the required medium/format in order achieve the organisation s objectives. 17. Development and management of an in-house electronic photographic library ensuring it holds a range of current and approved images for internal and external use, including the media.

4 EAST SUSSEX FIRE AUTHORITY Person Specification Title: Graphic Design & Visual Imaging Technician Grade: JF3 Directorate: Planning and Improvement Department: Comms and Marketing KNOWLEDGE 1 GCSE/O level in Maths and English or equivalent. 2 BTec National Diploma in Graphic design or similar qualification/ substantial studio experience. 3 Comprehensive knowledge of photography and audio-visual production techniques 4 Comprehensive knowledge of and proven ability to use modern multi-media communication products/materials (including but not limited to use of text, audio, still images or video content) 5 Comprehensive knowledge of industry standard software for design and artwork production - including but not limited to Illustrator. 6 Comprehensive knowledge of industry standard software for photo manipulation. 7 Comprehensive knowledge of industry standard software for audio-visual production 8 Knowledge of data protection and image permission requirements, copyright usage and licensing. 9 Fully conversant with the MS Office suite Desirable. 10 Degree and/or postgraduate degree in Graphic Design. Desirable. 11 Photography A-level/City & Guilds. Desirable. 12 Working knowledge of website Content Management Systems Desirable. 13 Working knowledge and experience of interactive media channels including but not limited to websites, mobile applications and interactive guides. Desirable. 14 Knowledge of litho & digital printing processes. Desirable. NB ESFRS recognises software and equipment will change and specific technologies referred to in this role profile may be replaced in the future.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE 1 Demonstrable experience in graphic design for print and exhibition in a commercial 2 Demonstrable experience of working as a photographer in a commercial 3 Demonstrable experience in video editing and creative production in a commercial 4 Design and production of corporate brochures/magazines. Desirable. 5 Experience of liaising with third parties (e.g. printers) to produce materials efficiently and effectively 6 Preparation of audio/visual presentations. Desirable. 7 Management of design related projects. Desirable. 8 Experience of corporate identity/brand management relating to design, photography and audio visual production. Desirable.
