Messages Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak Prime Minister, Malaysia The Oil, Gas and Energy (OGE) industry continues to be an important component of the Malaysian economy. Given its non-renewable nature and the declining number of large oil field discoveries in the world, the long-term prognosis for oil prices is to move higher as global energy demands increase. The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has an optimistic outlook for the oil market in the coming year, as we foresee that global demand will exceed current production, pushing up prices once again. By 2020, it is estimated that the Oil & Gas sector will raise Malaysia s total gross national income (GNI) contribution to RM241 billion - more than a 100% increase from the sector prior to In the meantime, local Oil & Gas players must make efforts to consolidate and diversify into new segments as well as implement cost-cutting measures to combat the current oversupply. The ability of the OGE sector to continuously innovate is no longer an advantage, but a necessity - and to do so in a manner that is sustainable and ethical is the way forward. There are plenty of opportunities for local Oil & Gas players to explore, including diversifying into new downstream activities and exploring the potential of renewable energy. Smaller Oil & Gas service providers must also be willing to consolidate to form larger and stronger entities that can compete for higher value jobs internationally. Renewable energy currently only makes up about 1% of the country s energy mix, and is anticipated to be the next big driver of economic growth and transformation. Malaysia is actively focusing on institutionalising energy efficiency measures and exploring green energy sources, in order to successfully transition into a green economy and ensure the sustainability of the OGE sector. By 2020, we envision the OGE sector to generate US$40 billion in incremental income. To achieve this, it is crucial that all avenues and opportunities in the sector are explored and developed to operate at maximum capacity. The Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) series, which celebrates its 16th installation this year, plays a crucial role in this regard. As the region s number one Oil & Gas event, OGA 2017 is the definitive platform for governments, corporations and service providers to come together and collaborate in the interest of strengthening the future of the OGE sector. OGA 2017 will highlight Malaysia s potential as the regional deepwater and oilfield services hub in the region. We have been focusing on deepwater exploration and EOR of mature fields to sustain and increase Oil & Gas production. This platform will highlight the country s oil & gas potential while staying up-to-date with the latest innovations and technology from around the world to strengthen its position. Malaysia is proud to host OGA and witness its growth over the years. No other show in the region attracts more attendees and exhibiting companies, and these impressive numbers are due in part to Malaysia s increasingly prominent role as the regional centre of the Oil & Gas industry. I wish to congratulate the organisers for putting together yet another successful show. I believe that OGA 2017 will go a long way in bridging the industry gaps, in our quest to ensure the sustainability of Malaysia s and Asia s OGE sector. Thank you Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak Prime Minister OGA
Dato Azman Mahmud Chief Executive Officer, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Malaysia continues its momentum in becoming an Oil & Gas (O&G) hub in the Asia Pacific. As one of the fastest-growing economies in the region, the country has created robust market opportunities for businesses across the spectrum and has attracted recognition by independent organisations and institutions. The recent accolade received was from the 2017 Best Countries to Invest In survey by US-based BAV Consulting and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, which ranked Malaysia as the best country to invest. According to the report, Malaysia is one of the top recipients of foreign direct investment and its pro-business government offers a wide range of incentives to investors. Despite global challenges, MIDA is optimistic on the outlook of the O&G industry. While we continue our focus on the promotion of downstream activities, MIDA is confident that there will also be new opportunities for the upstream sector. Events like the 16th Asian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Engineering Exhibition will be a good platform to foster collaboration and partnerships between local and international O&G players, and encourage greater interest and investment across the broad spectrum of services in Malaysia s O&G industry. In 2016, investment in the O&G industry facilitated by MIDA was valued at RM25.1 billion. These investments have contributed towards building job opportunities in various fields and capabilities, which spurred the advancement of technologies in specific O&G activities. As the country s principal investment promotion agency, MIDA will continue to work with all stakeholders in improving the synergistic development of upstream and downstream activities in the country. This will create more opportunities that will lead to a sustainable future of the O&G industry. MIDA looks forward to the creation of more mutually beneficial collaborations at this event. Thank you. Dato Azman Mahmud Chief Executive Officer Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) 10 OGA 2017
Messages Datuk Shahrol Azral lbrahim Halmi President, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) As an industry development agency that was formed to facilitate the growth of the Oil & Gas services and equipment sector (OGSE) in Malaysia, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) acts as the catalyst to grow the industry and provide more international connectivity to local industry players as part of its mandate. We hope to see more Malaysian Oil & Gas companies competing on international markets and expand their global footprint, in line with positioning Malaysia as the OGSE hub in the Asia Pacific region. One of the key areas to look at in terms of making Malaysia the regional hub is perception. Malaysia must position itself and prove to the world that this is the place where Oil & Gas business thrives, and where all the fundamentals are in place to attract investments and support a bustling industry. To this day, MPRC continues to collaborate with its partners and stakeholders to create an environment for the OGSE sector to thrive. This would increase the levels of trade and investment in the sector, while promoting technology development and innovation among industry players. We are pleased to support Oil and Gas Asia 2017 (OGA 2017) as it is in line with our vision of positioning Malaysia as the OGSE hub in the Asia Pacific region. Given the increasingly challenging industry climate, fostering win-win collaborations between local and global players in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries will prove to be crucial. We see OGA 2017 as one of the important platforms to enable all of this. Malaysian companies will have the opportunity to showcase their latest solutions and services in both the upstream and downstream sectors at the event, whilst staying in touch with the up and coming challenges and technological advancements the industry have in store for the future. OGA 2017 also presents industry players with the opportunity to exchange and share best practices on challenges facing the industry. Many opportunities can be tapped into as we move forward towards a more sustainable future. Based on its past successes, I am certain that OGA 2017 helps to strengthen the capabilities of local Oil & Gas players, and enable them to make their mark globally. Thank you. Datuk Shahrol Azral lbrahim Halmi President Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) OGA
Sharifah Zaida Nurlisha President, Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) The Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council s prime agenda is to serve the interest of its members who belong to the local Oil and Gas Services sector. To date, MOGSC currently comprises of over 600 member companies of various sectors within the industry. The industry is slowly reviving with rig counts steadily increasing and more field development opportunities in the pipeline are being finalised. Although the remnants of the oversupply production will not completely disappear in 2017, the past two years has forced the Oil and Gas industry to adapt to the low oil price environment. However, unlike any other downturn, as opposed to blind cost cutting, this has led to efficiency improvements, strategy shifts, technological advancements and most importantly, doing business differently in providing the best solution to this new environment. Moving forward to 2018 will hopefully see a close to the nail-biting chapter that the industry has faced the past years, and it is important that the resiliency of our industry players that made it through this storm be showcased and learnt from. Malaysia is fast transforming as the future key regional hub for technology, product and services and I strongly believe from past experience that OGA 2017 will be an ideal platform to bring the industry players from Asia together to discuss, deliberate and resolve the challenges facing the industry. Here s to a thought provoking OGA 2017 and expect to see you at our biennial Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Exhibition and Conference (MOGSEC) in 2018 where we showcase the best of what Malaysian players can offer. Thank you. Sharifah Zaida Nurlisha President The Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) 12 OGA 2017
Messages Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin Chairman, Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd (UBM MES) Regarded as the region s No. 1 Oil & Gas event, Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) offers a cohesive platform that facilitates an exchange of knowledge and best practices, in order to advance the future of the local and regional Oil & Gas sector. We are proud of the tremendous successes that the show has achieved since its inception in Between 2011 and 2015, the number of exhibitors at OGA increased by 44%, while number of attendees increased by 48%. The growth in numbers reflects Malaysia s growing influence as a regional hub for the Oil & Gas industry. This year marks the 17th installation of the series touted as Southeast Asia s biggest and best Petroleum Industry Exhibition. OGA 2017 is an opportunity for governments, corporations and service providers to converge and collaborate in the interest of strengthening the future of the regional Oil & Gas sector, especially in the wake of the current market uncertainties. Bringing together the industry s key players and thought leaders, OGA 2017 attempts to resolve many of the issues that continue to challenge the Oil & Gas industry. It also highlights Malaysia s potential as a regional deepwater and oilfield services hub in this region, as we aspire to enhance our potential in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). OGA 2017 promises to be a show unlike any other. This year, we will witness a record-breaking 2,000 participating companies from more than 60 countries around the world, including 11 international pavilions. Many of our exhibitors choose to return year after year because of the tremendous impact that the exhibition has created for their businesses. We also anticipate welcoming more than 23,000 visitors through our doors during this event. In addition to understanding the latest offerings in the sector, visitors to OGA 2017 will be able to meet and interact with the crème de la crème of the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Engineering industries through our B2B matching platform. Our exclusive Business Matching Programme, powered by Jublia, will facilitate one-to-one meetings in the interest of fostering new partnerships and relationships. The time is certainly ripe for companies to explore new opportunities and recalibrate their operations in order to withstand future volatility and forge ahead, and OGA 2017 will play a crucial role in opening up doors for local and regional players in the sector. On that note, I thank all our partners, supporters and sponsors for making OGA 2017 a resounding success. I wish you all an enriching time at OGA 2017! Thank you Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin Chairman Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd (UBM MES) OGA
