4 Curriculum Committee April 30, 2018 UNApproved Minutes Web Curriculum Address: Lau wanted to confirm that the COUNS department will be included in the creation or editing of a COUNS course. The Meta Majors committee is also discussion how to address PT student s needs. She encouraged committee members to discussion in their divisions/departments and send any feedback to her via . Catalog revisions Course Substitution and Transfer of Credit Schenk presented revisions to the Course Subsection and Transfer of credit policy for the catalog. She thanked Lau for her assistance in the new language and noted that she has conferred with A&R about the change. It was suggested to change the language in the Course Substitution (first paragraph, last sentence) from course substitutions are used for courses that are not equivalent in content to a program requirement to course substitution are used for the courses that may be comparable in content to a program requirement. This change was made and will be submitted for the catalog. Revision to DVC Procedure Schenk presented DVC Procedure noting that the Academic Senate would like to request a revision to the language and policy regarding removing the course from the schedule and if a further delay, removing the course from the catalog/state inventory, also adding that they feel the loss of program resource allocation funding was enough of a punishment. The committee felt the removal of the course from the schedule and catalog was an effective deterrent to not completing the scheduled Title 5 revisions. Schenk provided a revised policy with updates, including the new T5 calendar year and references. The committee was asked to review with their division/department and this item will return for further discussion/possible action on May 7, Chisar adjourned the meeting at 3:26 p.m.

5 # Action Plan program We have modified and created new PLOs to more closely align the PLOs to the course actions SLOs. We are currently waiting for curriculum approval in order to then submit these changes to SLOAC. The process is still pending. Based on the SLOs and the previous PLOs, the department decided to articulate uniformity in more detail. Given the current timeline and amount of work still pending, we will complete these changes by the end of the summer as permitted. course The content of all courses support the new PLOs. Scheduled Title 5 updates are actions currently being worked on by the department. alignment To align with new PLOs we have created a new matrix and we currently waiting for actions approval by the committees mentioned above. assessment No changes are recommended. actions for program review Because the new PLOs demonstrate the various abilities needed to develop for each level of advancement, students must be provided with adequate resources that match not only their needs, but that also enable a strong level of excellence. With this, the financial investment of the tutoring center is of top priority. Online streaming media subscriptions would also enhance students cultural understanding of pragmatics and sociocultural and political structures. To more accurately address assessments and the ever-developing programs, it is important to have the appropriate faculty with the focused linguistic skills; considering this, we need full-time positions for French, Italian, German and Russian.

14 From: To: Cc: Subject: Date: Koblik, Kristen Kingsley, Anne; Agostino, Lesley; Fannin, Toni; Schenk, Kim; Hein, Claudia; Chisar, Michael Breton, Hopi 299"s and online TAs Friday, February 9, :45:54 AM Hi all, I'm ing to start a conversation about the 299 "Student Instructional Assistant" courses and distance education. I'm not sure of the status of distance education in other 299s, but in ARTHS, there is not currently a distance education method of instruction enabled. I think that online instructional assistants have the potential to be really beneficial for both the online learning environment and for the students who are the instructional assistants. There tends to be a lot more participation in discussions, where student-led facilitation can be really valuable. So, is it possible to consider a change to the template for 299s to include distance education as a method of instruction? Is it worth changing the templates for all or most 299s, or should we make the change opt-in only, or do it department by department? Is this something that should go on the curriculum committee agenda? Please let me know what next steps might be to address this issue--i'd be happy to present the topic at a CC meeting. Best, Kris Kristen Koblik kkoblik@dvc.edu

16 DVC Procedure COURSE OUTLINE OF RECORD REVIEW ADOPTION: February 22, 2010 REVISED: REFERENCES: Education Code 78015, Board Policy 4008 Accreditation Standards II A.16 DVC Procedure Program Review In order to ensure that all programs, and courses within programs, comply with Education Code and Regulations, Board Policy and accreditation standards, it is the responsibility of each discipline/department to regularly review course outlines of record to ensure currency and continuous improvement. Each discipline/department determines the calendar year in which they will review their course outlines of record (referred to as Title 5 Rewrites ) as recorded in the Curriculum Committeeapproved six-year calendar maintained by the Instruction Office. The discipline/department may request a change to this calendar, by submitting a written request to the Curriculum Committee by September 15. Any approved change will take effect during the following calendar year.. Course outlines may be revised at any time, however, these revisions will not be considered Title 5 Rewrites, and they do not replace the required revisions as specified in the official sixyear course revision calendar. If a discipline/department has not completed the scheduled Title 5 Rewrite(s) according to the official six-year calendar: The course(s) will be ineligible for inclusion in the subsequent Summer and Fall schedule or thereafter unless the course has been approved The discipline/department will be excluded from the resource allocation process in the following spring or fall term. If a course has still not completed the Curriculum Committee approval process by the end of the following calendar year, the course will be deleted as an active course from the Web Curriculum System (WCS), removed from the next catalog and deleted from the Chancellor s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI) by the Instruction Office. If the discipline/department decides to reinstate the course, it must be submitted to the Curriculum Committee as a new course and follow all required procedures. Page 110 of 138
