Intrductin What is included? Features Abut 2 0 peratin With the Sund Strm Labratries EVOLUTION MOSFETamplifier series, we are intrducing eight new amplifiers, all designed in the USA. This new series includes tw mnblck amps, fur 2-channe ~, tw 4-channel amplifiers. All EVOLUTION mdels feature variable lw pass and high pass (except mnblck amps)crssvers and variable input gain cntrls. When first unpacking yur new amplifier, please check first that the package cntains all f the items belw. If smething is missing, cntact the stre where yu purchased the amplifier. When perating at 2 (2, the amplifiers will increase their utput pwer by apprximately 50%. The current draw will als increase by abut the same amunt, s be sure yu have enugh current t run the amplifiers int a 2 lad. Fr further flexibility in the use f a subwfer, 0-+ 18dB Bass Bst cntrl has been included n all amplifiers. Yu can cntrl the subwfer level with the remte level cntrl mdule. General precautins Cnnecting the amplifier Befre installing and using yur new Sund Strm amplifier, please be cme familiar with all the infrmatin cntained in this manual. Please keep this manual in a safe place fr future reference. D nt pen r attempt t repair this unit yurself. Dangerus high vltages are present which may result in electric shck. Refer any repairs t a qualified service technician. T avid risk f electrnic shck r damage t the amplifier, d nt permit any f this equipment t becme damp r wet frm water r drinks. If this des ccur, immediately unplug the pwer wires and send the amplifier t yur lcal dealer r service center as sn as pssible. If there is smke r any peculiar dr present during use r if there is damage t any f the cmpnent enclsures, immediately unplug the pwer wire and send the amplifier t yur lcal dealer r service center as sn as pssible. Installatin precautins Befre yu drill r cut any hles, investigate yur car's layut very carefully. Take special care when yu wrk near the gas tank, fuel lines, hydraulic lines and electrical wiring. Never perate the amplifier when it is unmunted. Attach all audi system cmpnents securely t prevent damage, especially in an accident. Befre making r breaking pwer cnnectins in yur system, discnnect the vehicle battery. Cnfirm that yur head unit r ther equipment is turned ff while cnnecting the input jacks and speaker terminals. If yu need t replace the pwer fuse, replace it nly with a fuse identical t that supplied with the amplifier. Using a fuse f a different type r rating may result in damage t yur audi system r yur amplifier which is nt cvered by the manufacturer's warranty. Munting the amplifier 1. Find a suitable lcatin in the vehicle in which t munt the amplifier. 2, Make sure there is sufficient air circulatin arund the intended munting lcatin. 3. Mark the lcatin fr the munting hle screws by psitining the amplifier where yu wish t install it. Use a scribe r munting screw, inserted thrugh each f the amp's munting hles, t mark the munting surface. If the munting surface is carpeted, measure the hle centers and mark with a felt tip pen. 4. Drill pilt hles in the munting surface fr the munting screws. Place the amplifier in psitin, and attach the amplifier t the munting surface securely using screws. SHOCK HAZARD! D nt pen the case f this prduct. There are dangerus vltages present within the unit. Th ere are n user-serviceable parts within the unit. Befre ding any wiring, lk thrugh this manual and identify the diagrams t fllw fr pwer, input and speaker cnnectins fr yur particular installatin. Be sure yu understand all the cnnectins befre yu prceed. 1. Cnnect the pwer grund terminal t the clsest pint n the chassis f the car. Keep this grund wire t less than 39 " (100 cm) in length. always use 4 ga wire fr pwer and grund cnnectins t the amplifier 2. Cnnect the remte terminal t the remte utput f the head unit using 16 gauge (r heavier) wire. 3. Cnnect an empty fuse hlder within 18" (46 cm) f the car battery, and run 8 gauge (r heavier) cable frm this fuse t the amplifier lcatin. 4. Check that the fuse hlder is empty. Then cnnect the fuse hlder t the "BAD+" cnnectin n the amplifier. 5. If multiple amplifiers are being used in yur system, either: Run a separate pair f cables frm the battery and a chassis grund pint t each amplifier. Each (+i cable must have its wn inline fuse. -r Run a #4 cable frm the fuse hlder at the battery t a distributin blck at r near the amplifier's lcatin. Then run separate cables frm the amplifier t this distributin blck and t independent chassis grund pints. 6. Cnnect all line inputs and utputs (if used) using high-quality cables. Cnnect all speakers, fllwing the diagrams in this manual. Be sure t bserve prper plarity t avid audi phase prblems. 7. Insert fuse(s) int the battery fuse hlder(s). 8. Recheck all cnnectins befre pwering up the amplifier. 9. Set all level cntrls t minimum psitin, and set all crssver cntrls/ switches t the desired frequency pints. 10, Pwer up the head unit and the amplifier. Then set the vlume cntrl n the head unit t abut 3/4 vlume, and adjust the amplifier's input level cntrl(s) t just belw the level f distrtin. 11. Further fine tuning f the varius cntrls may be necessary t btain best results. Dn't misuse the level cntrl! D nt mistake the input level cntrl fr a vlume cntrl! It is designed ONLY t match the utput level f yur audi surce t the input level f yur amplifier. D nt adjust this input level t maximum unless yur input level req u i res it. Ignring these instructins will result in an input verlad t the amplifier, and excessive audi distrtin. It can als cause the prtectin circuit t engage. Check all fuses, replace if necessary. Make sure that the Prtectin LEO is nt illuminated. If it is lit, shut ff the amplifier briefly, and then repwer it. Check fr shrt circuits n speaker leads, Turn dwn the vlume cntrl n the head unit t prevent verdriving. Remve speaker leads, and reset the amplifier If the Prtectin LEO still cmes n, then the amplifier is faulty and needs servicing, Check that all fuses are OK. Check that amplifier is prperly grunded. Check that the Remte Input (Turn-On) has at least 3VDC. Check that the RCA audi cables are plugged int the prper inputs. Check all speaker wiring. Reset the Level Cntrl. Check the Crssver Cntrl settings. Check the RCA intercnnect cables. Check all speaker wiring, Discnnect all RCA inputs t the amplifiers. If the hiss disappears, then plug in the cmpnent driving the amplifier and unplug its inputs, If the hiss disappears at this pint, g n until the faulty/nisy cmpnent is fund. It is best t set the amplifier's input level cntrl as lw as pssible. The best subjective signal-t-nise rati is achieved in this manner Try t set the head unit as high as pssible (withut distrtin) and the amp input level as lw as pssible, Check fr imprperly grunded RCA intercnnects. Check that the Input Level Cntrl is set t match the signal level f the head unit. Always try t set the Input Level as lw as pssible. Check that all crssver frequencies are prperly set. Check fr shrt circuits n the speaker leads,.- Check that the minimum speaker impedance fr the amp mdel is crrect. Check that there is gd air circulatin arund the amp. In sme applicatins, it may be necessary t add external cling fan(s), This is usually caused by pr quality RCA cables, which can pick up radiated nise, Use nly the best quality cables, and rute them away frm pwer cables, Check that speaker leads are nt shrted t the vehicle chassis.
