Portable Storage for Embossing Folders/Framelits Designed By: Kris McIntosh March, 2013 I love attending crops and retreats but have a problem deciding what to take and what to leave home, I want to take everything. So I created this portable storage which will take up a little less room and allow me to take more supplies with me. You can store 12 embossing folders and 12 sets of Framelits in this one little folder. Fantastic! Step 1 Cut an 8-1/4 x 6-1/4 piece of the backing cardboard from a packet of Designer Series Paper (DSP). Apply Sticky Strip to the edges of the cardboard and also run a couple of strips across the center.
Step 1 Step 2 Cut four 8-1/4 x 6-1/4 pieces of fabric wadding. I wanted my cover to have lots of padding so I used two layers of wadding on the front and the back. Remove the red liner from the Sticky Strip and attach one piece of wadding to each piece of cardboard. Add more Sticky Strip to the attached piece of wadding, remove the red liner and then attach the remaining two pieces of wadding. Step 2 Step 3 Cut two 9-1/4 x 7-1/4 pieces of Comfort Café Designer Fabric. Step 3
Step 4 Apply two rows of Sticky Strip to the edges of both pieces of cardboard on the side with no wadding. Lay each piece of cardboard on top of the wrong side of the fabric with the wadding side down and centering it on the fabric. Remove the red liner from the outside row of Sticky Strip. Fold in each of the corners on the diagonal. Fold the fabric on each of the four sides onto the Sticky Strip. Make sure that you pull the fabric nice and tight over the wadding. Step 4 Step 5 Attach a 10-1/2 length of 7/8 Natural Cotton ribbon over the fabric on one of the pieces of cardboard. Secure the ends to the wrong side of the cardboard with Sticky Strip. Step 5 Step 6 Cut eight flowers from White Creped Filter Paper using the largest flower on the Fun Flowers Bigz L die. Use a Sponge Dauber to add Midnight Muse ink to the petals on each of the flowers.
Step 6 Step 7 Stack the flowers and pierce a hole through the center. Insert a Vintage Brad through the flowers. Scrunch each flower up and around the brad and open out again. Step 7 Step 8 Pierce a hole through the ribbon, fabric, wadding and cardboard. Open the prongs on the Vintage Brad and insert through the hole and open the prongs on the back of the cardboard. This is the front of your folder. Step 8
Step 9 Cut two 8 x 6 pieces of Midnight Muse card stock. Apply Sticky Strip on all four edges and across the center of each piece of card stock. Remove the red liner from the Sticky Strip on the Midnight Muse card stock and also the red liner on the Sticky Strip which remains on the inside of the back and front covers. Attach Midnight Muse card stock to cover all the raw edges of the fabric. Step 9 Step 10 Cut along the 8 length of a 6 x 8 Cellophane bag at 6-1/2. Then trim down just the front of the bag another 1-1/2. Apply Sticky Strip to the 6 x 6-1/2 side of the cellophane bag. Remove the red liner and attach inside the front cover. Step 10 Step 11 Create a template to punch the holes on the cover pieces by cutting an 8-1/4 x 1-1/2 piece of Vellum card stock. Score along the 8-1/4 length at ¾, 4-1/8 and 7-1/2. Set the large hole on the Crop-A-Dile to 5/8. Push the Crop-A-Dile as far as it will go, centering over each of the three score lines and punch a hole.
Step 11 Step 12 Lay the template onto the front cover along the left hand edge with the holes closest to the edge of the fabric and punch three matching holes. Lay the template onto the back cover along the right hand edge with the holes closest to the edge of the fabric and punch three matching holes. Set an eyelet in each hole using the Crop-a- Dile. Step 12 Step 13 Take three pieces of Comfort Café Designer Series Paper (DSP) and score on one side at 6. Rotate the DSP 90 degrees and score at 4-1/4. Step 14 Fold the 4-1/4 score line to create a pocket and then fold along the 6 score line. Use your Bone Folder to create crisp folds. You should have three pieces of DSP which look like the photo. Step 14
Step 15 Create a template to punch holes by cutting a 7-3/4 x 1-1/2 piece of Vellum card stock. Score along the 7-3/4 length at ½, 3-7/8 and 7-1/4. Set the large hole on the Crop-A-Dile to 5/8. Push the Crop-A-Dile as far as it will go centering over the three score lines and punch a hole. Stack the DSP with all the folds together. Lay the vellum on top of the open edges of the DSP with the holes closest to the edge. Punch the three holes through all three pieces of DSP. Step 15 Step 16 Cut six 2-3/4 x 4-1/2 pieces of Window Sheet. Lay the straight edge onto the Scallop Envelope Bigz die as shown in the photo. Run through the Big Shot. Note: Photo uses colored card so that you can see what to do. Fold along the score lines using the Bone Folder to create crisp folds. Punch a half circle from the straight edge using the 1-3/4 Circle punch. Step 16 Step 17 Apply sticky strip to the flaps. Remove red liner and attach to the bottom folded section of each side of the pieces of the folded DSP as per photo.
Step 17 Step 18 Score along one 12 length of Whisper White 12 x 12 card stock at 6. Rotate the card 90 degrees and score at 4 and 4-1/4. Place the card stock back into the Scoring Tool with the 4 and 4-1/4 score lines closest to the top of the Scoring Tool. Score from the top of the card to the 4-1/4 score line at ¾, 5-3/4, 6-1/4 and 11-1/4. Note: The photo shows the score lines drawn in black biro. Cut away the sections marked with diagonal lines. Step 18 Step 19 Fold on all score lines, using the Bone Folder to make crisp folds. Repeat with two more sheets of 12 x 12 Whisper White card. Your folded card stock should look like the photo (without the additional score lines). Step 19
Step 20 Cut a 5-3/4 x 7-1/2 piece of magnet sheet. Run Sticky Strip around the outside edges and across the middle of the magnetic side. Cut a 5-3/4 x 7-1/2 Pattern 1 piece of Comfort Café DSP (see photo Step 17). Remove red liner from Sticky Strip on magnet sheet and attach DSP. Step 20 Step 21 Remove protective film from the magnet sheet and attach to the Whisper White card as shown in the photo. Note: My magnet sheet was self-adhesive; if your magnet sheet is not self-adhesive you will need to attach using Sticky Strip. Step 21 Step 22 Cut 1 x 5 piece of magnet sheet and adhere Sticky Strip to both long edges. Cut a 1 x 5 piece of DSP, remove red liner from Sticky Strip and attach to the magnetic side of the magnet sheet. Remove protective film from the back of the magnet sheet and attach to the flap sections of the Whisper White card stock.
Step 22 Step 23 Cut a 4-3/4 x 3-3/4 piece of Midnight Muse card stock. Attach to the front of the flap section of the Whisper White card stock. Step 23 Step 24 Cut Window Sheet following Step 16. Attach Window Sheet pocket to the center of the Midnight Muse card stock. Step 24
Step 25 Repeat Steps 20 to 24 using pattern 2 Comfort Café DSP and Summer Starfruit card stock on the reverse side of the Whisper White card stock. Step 25 Step 26 Create another Framelits Storage Pocket following Steps 24 to 29. Use Pattern 2 Comfort Café DSP and Summer Starfruit card stock on the first side and Pattern 3 Comfort Café DSP and Pool Party card stock on the remaining side. The first side of the folder is the side with the fold on the right. Step 26 Step 27 For the remaining folder use Pattern 3 Comfort Café DSP and Pool Party card stock on the first side and Pattern 1 Comfort Café DSP and Midnight Muse card stock on the other side. The first side of the folder is the side with the fold on the right.
Step 27 Step 28 Use the template created in Step 15 to punch three holes in the open edges of the Framelits Storage Pockets. You will only be able to punch the holes in one pocket at a time because of the thickness. Make sure that the holes are punched along the open edges of the Whisper White card stock. Step 32 Step 34 Assemble the Folder as follows - Cover, then Pattern 1 DSP Pocket, Pattern 1/Pattern 2 Framelits Storage Folder, Pattern 2 DSP Pocket, Pattern 2/Pattern 3 Framelits Storage Folder, Pattern 3 DSP Pocket, Pattern 3/Pattern 1 Framelits Storage Folder and lastly back Cover. Insert 2 hinged rings into the holes created in each of the pages.
Step 34 Step 35 Print out the labels attached to this tutorial and cut along the lines. I embossed my title pieces with the corresponding Embossing Folder.
