STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 2 of 5 Cutting Cutting Instructions Please Note: All strips are cut across the width of fabric (WOF) from selvage to selvage edge unless otherwise noted. WOF= Width of Fabric LOF = Length of Fabric Fabric A (2795-33 Map Khaki), cut: (2) 5 x 48 ½ strips from the length of fabric (LOF). (3) 5 x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, and cut (2) 5" x 57 ½ strips. Fussy cut (25) 3 ½ squares, each centered on flags. Fussy cut (24) 6 ½ squares, each centered on soldiers. Using the background, cut (100) 2 x 3 ½ strips. Using the background, cut (100) 2 squares. Fabric B (2796-88 Weapons Red), cut: (8) 3 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into (96) 3 ½ squares. Fabric C (2797-77 Soldier Wreath Soldier Blue), cut: (10) 2 x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into (200) 2 squares. Fabric D (2161-88 Shadow Weave Red), cut: (2) 1 ½ x 42 ½ strips. (3) 1 ½ x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, and cut (2) 1 ½ x 44 ½ strips. Fabric E (2800-35 Circle Star Tobacco), cut: (5) 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, and cut (2) 2 ½ x 44 ½ strips and (2) 2 ½ x 48 ½ strips. Fabric F (2161-77 Shadow Weave Soldier Blue), cut: (6) 2 ½ x WOF strips for the binding. Fabric G (2797-35 Soldier Wreath Tobacco), cut: (3) 2 x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, and cut (2) 2 x 57 ½ strips. (4) 2 x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end, and cut (2) 2 x 60 ½ strips. Backing (2157-88 Master Floral Red), cut: (2) 68 x WOF strips. Piece the strips together and trim to make the 68 x 68 backing.
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 3 of 5 Sewing Sew using a ¼ seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows. Blocks Assembly 1. Place (1) 2 Fabric C square on the left side of one 2 x 3 ½ Fabric A strip, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 2. Place another 2 Fabric C square on the right side of the 2 x 3 ½ Fabric A strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 4). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance to complete one C/A/C unit. 3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to make (100) C/A/C units total. 4. Sew (1) C/A/C side unit to each side of (1) 3 ½ Fabric A square. Sew (1) 2 Fabric A square to each end of (1) C/A/C top/bottom unit to make the top border. Repeat to make the bottom border. Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the 3 ½ Fabric A square, paying attention to the direction of the fabric to make (1) Block One (Fig. 5). Repeat to make (25) Block Ones total. Fig. 3 Fig. 5 Fig. 4 5. Place (1) 3 ½ Fabric B square on the top left corner of (1) 6 ½ Fabric A square, right sides together, paying attention to the fabric direction (Fig. 6). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 6). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 7). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼ away from the sewn seam. 6. Follow Figure 8 for the seam direction to add a 3 ½ Fabric B square to each of the remaining corners of the 6 ½ Fabric A square to make (1) Block Two (Fig. 9). 7. STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 4 of 5 Quilt Top Assembly 8. Sew together (4) Block Ones and (3) Block Twos, alternating them to make Row One. Repeat to make Rows Three, Five and Seven. 9. Sew together (4) Block Twos and (3) Block Ones, alternating them to make Row Two. Repeat to make Rows Four and Six. 10. Sew the (7) rows together in numerical order to make the quilt top (Fig. 10). Fig. 10 11. Referring to the Quilt Layout, sew (1) 1 ½ x 42 ½ Fabric D strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 1 ½ x 44 ½ Fabric D strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 12. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 44 ½ Fabric E strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 48 ½ Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 13. Sew (1) 5 x 48 ½ Fabric A strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 5 x 57 ½ Fabric A strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 14. Sew (1) 2 x 57 ½ Fabric G strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 2 x 60 ½ Fabric G strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 5 of 5 Quilt Layout Layering, Quilting and Finishing 15. Sew the (2) 68 x WOF Fabric G strips together and trim to make (1) 68" x 68 backing piece. 16. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Binding 17. Cut the ends of the (6) Fabric F binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. 18. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place. 2014 Studio e Fabrics
