1 ABOUT THE EZ GATEWAY EZ Gateway is a high perfrmance, cst effective building and industrial autmatin multi-prtcl gateway prviding prtcl translatin between serial and Ethernet, devices and netwrks. NOTE: Fr trubleshting assistance refer t Appendix A, r any f the trubleshting appendices in the related driver supplements. Check the Sierra Mnitr website fr technical supprt resurces and dcumentatin that may be f assistance. The EZ Gateway is clud ready and cnnects with Sierra Mnitr s SMC Clud. See Sectin 5.3.3 fr further infrmatin. 2 CERTIFICATION 2.1 BTL Mark BACnet Testing Labratry 1 The BTL Mark n EZ Gateway is a symbl that indicates that a prduct has passed a series f rigrus tests cnducted by an independent labratry which verifies that the prduct crrectly implements the BACnet features claimed in the listing. The mark is a symbl f a high-quality BACnet prduct. G t www.bacnetinternatinal.net fr mre infrmatin abut the BACnet Testing Labratry. Click here fr the BACnet PIC Statement. 3 SUPPLIED EQUIPMENT EZ Gateway Preladed with the Mdbus and BACnet drivers. All instructin manuals, driver manuals, supprt utilities are available n the USB drive prvided in the ptinal accessry kit, r n the Sierra Mnitr website. Accessry kit (ptinal) (Part # FS-8915-36-QS) includes: 7-ft CAT5 cable with RJ45 cnnectrs at bth ends Pwer Supply -110/220V (p/n 69196) DIN Rail munting bracket Screwdriver fr cnnecting t terminals USB Flash drive laded with: Mdbus t BACnet Start-up Guide FieldServer Cnfiguratin Manual All FieldServer Driver Manuals Supprt Utilities Any additinal flders related t special files cnfigured fr a specific EZ Gateway Additinal cmpnents as required - see driver manual supplement fr details 1 BACnet is a registered trademark f ASHRAE. Page 5 f 31

4 INSTALLING THE EZ GATEWAY 4.1 Munting The fllwing munting ptins are available: Prduct cmes with tabs fr wall r surface munt. These can be snapped ff if nt required. DIN rail munting bracket - included in the accessry kit r rdered separately (part# FS-8915-35-QS). Din Rail Tab Figure 1: DIN Rail WARNING: Install nly as instructed, failure t fllw the installatin guidelines r using screws withut the DIN rail munting bracket culd result in permanent damage t the prduct. If the FieldServer is remved frm the DIN rail, use the riginal screws t reattach. Only screws supplied by SMC shuld be used in the hles fund n the back f the unit when attaching the ptinal DIN Rail bracket. USE OF ANY OTHER SCREWS MAY DAMAGE THE UNIT. NOTE: Fr dimensin details see Appendix B.3. Page 6 f 31

The fllwing baud rates are supprted fr Mdbus RTU: 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 76800, 115200 The fllwing baud rates are supprted fr BACnet MS/TP: 9600, 19200, 38400, 76800 Page 7 f 31

4.3 R2 Prt Jumper Settings Gently remve the FieldServer enclsure t access the jumpers n the unit. 4.3.1 Bias Resistrs Bias Resistr Jumper Figure 4: Bias Resistr Jumper The FieldServer bias resistrs are used t keep the RS-485 bus t a knwn state, when there is n transmissin n the line (bus is idling), t help prevent false bits f data frm being detected. The bias resistrs typically pull ne line high and the ther lw - far away frm the decisin pint f the lgic. In the RS-485 carrier, the bias resistr is 510 hms which is in line with the BACnet spec. It shuld nly be enabled at ne pint n the bus (n the field prt were there are very weak bias resistrs f 100k). Since there are n jumpers, many FieldServers can be put n netwrk withut running int the bias resistr limit which is < 500 hms. NOTE: See www.ni.cm/supprt/serial/resinf.htm fr additinal pictures and ntes. Page 8 f 31

4.3.2 Terminatin Resistr Terminatin Resistr Jumper Figure 5: Terminatin Resistr Jumper Terminatin resistrs are als used t reduce nise. These pull the tw lines f an idle bus tgether. Hwever, they wuld verride the effect f any bias resistrs, if cnnected. Page 9 f 31

4.3.3 Pwer Jumper Settings Pwer Jumper Switch in psitin A Figure 6: Pwer Jumper Switch The FieldServer Carrier Bard pwer jumper is set t psitin A by default but can be changed t psitin B fr ther pwer supply requirements. Psitin A: The Carrier makes use f a full-wave rectifying bridge. Can be used fr 12-24VAC input r 9-30VDC input. At 9VDC this becmes marginal. Psitin B: The Carrier makes use f a half-wave rectifying bridge. Best psitin fr grunded AC transfrmers and fr using DC vltage dwn t 9VDC. Page 10 f 31

4.4 R1 Prt Small DIP Switches Gently remve the FieldServer enclsure t access the small DIP switches fr the R1 Prt. Bias Resistr Switch End f Line Switch Figure 7: Bias Resistr DIP Switches & EOL If mre than ne RS-485 device is cnnected t the netwrk, then the field bias resistr switch needs t be enabled t ensure prper cmmunicatin. See Figure 7 fr the rientatin f switch psitins referenced belw. The default factry setting is OFF (switch psitin = right side) T enable biasing, turn the bias switch ON (switch psitin = left side) NOTE: Biasing nly needs t be enabled n ne device. The FieldServer has 510 hm resistrs that are used t set the biasing. If the FieldServer is the last device n the trunk, then the end f line (EOL) terminatin switch needs t be enabled. See Figure 7 fr the rientatin f switch psitins referenced belw. The default factry setting is OFF (switch psitin = right side) T enable the EOL terminatin, turn the EOL switch ON (switch psitin = left side) Page 11 f 31

5 OPERATION 5.1 Pwer Up the Device Apply pwer t the device. Ensure that the pwer supply used cmplies with the specificatins prvided in Appendix B.1. Ensure that the cable is grunded using the Frame GND terminal. The EZ Gateway requires a pwer supply that prvides 9-30V DC r 12-24V AC. PWR+ PWR- FG Figure 8: Pwer Cnnectin 5.2 Cnnect the PC t the EZ Gateway Over the Ethernet Prt Ethernet Prt Figure 9: Ethernet Prt Cnnect an Ethernet cable between the PC and EZ Gateway r cnnect the EZ Gateway and the PC t the switch using a straight CAT5 cable.
