Data Sheet 5741 Application Enamel 5741 should preferably be applied by means of spraying. Small, delicate components can also be coated by means of a brush. We recommend using 2C Epoxy Primer 855 in the standard color shade Scala 27.12.24 (8101 red brown) for the prime and/or intermediate coats when applying metallic color shades. Pot life (at +20 C) Approx. 4 hours. Pot life will be shorter at higher temperatures. After that time, neither dilute the material again nor continue to use it. Consumption High-pressure spraying/ XVLP technology: Approx. 120 ml/m² per crossspray cycle. Airless-/Air-Mix spraying: Approx. 160 ml/m² per crossspray cycle. Determine exact consumption by means of a test application on the object to be coated. Application temperature Favorable temperature +15 C. Do not apply if air or object temperature is below +5 C or if atmospheric moisture is high ( 80 %). Do not apply at temperatures above +25 C, in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces. Note information on moisture sensitivity provided in Notes. Tool cleaning Clean tools immediately after use with PUR Thinner 617. Drying Air-drying (+20 C, 65 % r. m.) Dust-dry after approx. 30 minutes. Recoatable after 6 to 8 hours, dry hard after approx. 16 to 24 hours. Fully cured after approx. 7 days. Allow longer drying times at a lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity. Oven-drying Ensure a flash-off time of approx. 30 minutes. Then bake the enamel for approx. 30 minutes at approx. 80 C. Storage Store in a dry location at a minimum temperature of +10 C. Reseal opened containers tightly. Declaration Water pollution classification Class 2, according to VwVwS. Product code PU50. Comply with the specifications in the current Safety Data Sheet. 2K-PUR-Acryl Hardener 5770 Properties Special hardener based on polyfunctional aliphatic isocyanate. Coating build-up Substrate preparation The substrate must be solid, dry, clean, with good adhesiveness, load-bearing and free from separating agents. Check existing coatings for their suitability, loadbearing capacity and adhesive properties. Thoroughly clean and grind zinc and zinc-coated surfaces using Universal Cleaner 1032 according to BFS Leaflet No. 5. Thoroughly clean, grind and degrease aluminium according to BFS Leaflet No. 6. Prepare plastic surfaces according to BFS Leaflet No. 22. Thoroughly sand intact factory prime coats and intact old coats. Remove defective and unsuitable coats thoroughly and dispose of them as per the applicable regulations. Hazardous particles and vapors can be released while working on or Data Sheet 5741 removing coats, e.g. by means of sanding, flame cleaning, etc. Perform such work only in well ventilated areas and ensure the use of appropriate (breathing) protection as required. Apply prime and/or intermediate coat on the substrate depending on the requirements. Also see VOB Part C, DIN 18363, Section 3. Coating on iron/steel, exterior and interior Substrates Prime coat Intermediate coat Top coat iron/steel, uncoated (exterior 2x) iron / steel with factory prime coat 1) Defective areas and whole surface using Aluminium, zinc and zinc-coated components 1) depending on requirements and selection or 2K-Aqua Epoxy-Primer 2373 if necessary, CoilCoating, coating powder and twocomponent coats, etc. 1) Steel frames prime-coated in the factory with a hydro-immersion prime coat can be coated directly with without an additional all-surface prime coat. Notes Note the sensitivity to moisture 2K-PUR-Acryl Enamel paints are sensitive to moisture. For this reason, always make sure that the spray air and the substrate are dry. During application and drying (at least 24 hours), any moisture exposure, e.g. dew, fog or rain, must be avoided. Note dew point temperature. Make sure the temperature is at least 3 C above the dew point. Use in the interior If used in the interior, provide for good ventilation during application and drying. Sanding substrates We recommend sanding the surfaces between the individual working steps. Light sanding is required in particular if a coaton-coat structure is used. Designs with brilliant or intense color shades Brilliant, pure intense color shades, e.g. in the yellow, orange, red, magenta and yellowgreen range have a low hiding power due to the nature of their pigments. When using critical color shades in these color ranges, we recommend applying a full-covering prime coat in the corresponding base color (Basecode). In addition to the standard coating build-up, additional coats may be required. We recommend using 2C Epoxy Primer 855 in the standard color shade Scala 27.12.24 (8101 red brown) for the prime and/or intermediate coats when applying metallic color shades. Creating test areas We recommend creating test areas using the specified application method to assess the surface effect of metal effect color shades and examining them on site. Refer to BFS Leaflet No. 25. Cleaning and care To clean the coated surfaces, use a clean, soft cloth, which is either dry or damp, but without any abrasive, solvent-based or caustic cleaning agents. Avoid applying too much pressure when cleaning (i.e. do not polish the surfaces). First, test the cleaning result in an unobtrusive area. Only clean surfaces that have completely dried and set.
