STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 3 of 6 Sewing Sew using a ¼ seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows. Block Assembly 1. Sew one 1 ½ x 18 ½ Fabric B strip to each side of the 18 ½ Fabric A square. Sew one 1 ½ x 20 ½ Fabric B strip to the top and bottom of the Fabric A square to complete the center square (Fig. 1). 2. Sew one 4 ½ x 20 ½ Fabric A Poinsettia strip to each side of the center square (Fig. 2). Fig. 1 Fig. 2 3. Sew one 4 ½ Fabric C Cream Star to each end of one 4 ½ x 20 ½ Fabric A Stripe strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the center square (Fig. 3). 4. Sew one 2 ½ x 28 ½ Fabric D strip to each side of the center square. Sew one 2 ½ x 32 ½ Fabric D strip to the top and bottom of the center square to complete the Center Block (Fig. 4). Fig. 3 Fig. 4 5. Sew two 4 ½ Fabric C Cream Stars squares and two 4 ½ Fabric E red/blue stripe squares together to make the Upper Left Corner Block (Fig. 5). Repeat to make the Bottom Right Corner Block. 6. Sew two 4 ½ Fabric C Cream Stars squares and two 4 ½ Fabric E red/green stripe squares together to make the Upper Right Corner Block (Fig. 6). Repeat to make the Bottom Left Corner Block. STUDIO e PROJECTS 7. Sew one 1 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric B strip and one 1 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric I strip together, lengthwise, to make one B/I side strip (Fig. 7). Repeat to make thirty-two B/I side strips total. 8. Place one 2 ⅞ Fabric I square on top of one 2 ⅞ Fabric B square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 8). Sew ¼ away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 8). Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 9) to make two B/I units (Fig. 10). Trim the B/I unit to measure 2 ½ square. Repeat to make thirty-two B/I units total. 9. Sew one B/I side strip to each side of one 4 ½ Fabric C Red Block to make the middle row (Fig. 11). Repeat to make eight middle rows. 10. Sew one B/I unit to each end of one B/I side strip to make the top row (Fig. 12). Repeat to make the bottom row. Repeat to make sixteen Top/Bottom rows. Repeat to make eight Block One squares. 12. Sew four 4 ½ Fabric F squares and four 4 ½ Fabric G squares together in a checkerboard block (Fig. 14). Repeat to make four F/G checkerboard blocks. Sew one 2 x 48 ½ Fabric D strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 2 x 51 ½ Fabric D strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 18). Fig. 18
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 6 of 6 17. Sew one 6 ½ x 51 ½ Fabric H strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 6 ½ x 63 ½ Fabric H strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 19). Fig. 19 Layering, Quilting and Finishing 18. Sew the two 71 x WOF strips together and trim to make one 71" x 71 backing piece. 19. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Binding 20. Cut the ends of the seven binding strips at a 45 degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. 21. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place. 2013 Studio e Fabrics
