Let asseblief op dat die OCC en VRA Core 4 elemente agter aan hierdie vraestel aangeheg is as Appendikse A en B. The information on the Mona Lisa below should be used to answer Questions 1-4 in Section A. Please note that the OCC and VRA Core 4 elements are attached to the back of this question paper as Appendices A and B. Mona Lisa (Italian: La Gioconda, French:La Joconde) Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda (La Joconde) is a portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo da Vinci during the Renaissance in Italy in the sixteenth century. It is one of the most famous paintings in the world, and few other works of art have been subject to as much scrutiny, study, mythologizing and parody. It is owned by the French government and hangs in the Musée du Louvre in Paris, France. The painting, a half-length portrait measuring 77 53 cm, depicts a woman whose gaze meets the viewer's with an expression often described as enigmatic. It is considered by many to be Leonardo's magnum opus. Leonardo da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in 1502 (during the Italian Renaissance) and is estimated to have finished it around 1506. Around 1516 King François I of France bought the painting for 4,000 écus and kept it at Fontainebleau, where it remained until moved by Louis XIV. Louis XIV moved the painting to the Palace of Versailles. After the French Revolution, it was moved to the Louvre. Napoleon I had it moved to his bedroom in the Tuileries Palace; later it was returned to the Louvre. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 1871, it was moved from the Louvre to a hiding place elsewhere in France. During World War II, the painting was again removed from the Louvre and taken to safety, first in Château d'amboise, then in the Loc-Dieu Abbey and finally in the Ingres Museum in Montauban. The Mona Lisa painting now hangs in the Musée du Louvre in Paris, France. 2
