Students will be able t discuss and critique wrks f art, recgnize the wrk f significant artists, and share their interest in particular artists with classmates. Students will als take leadership rles in maintaining a safe and functinal studi space, with attentin t careful maintenance f materials and tls. ESLR In this class, we will prmte ALL f the ESLR s! Particular emphasis will be placed n the fllwing standards: 1.1 Identify and use the principles f design t discuss, analyze, and write abut visual aspects in the envirnment and in wrks f art, including their wn. 1.4 Analyze and describe hw the cmpsitin f a wrk f art is affected by the use f a particular principle f design. Assessment/Grading Plicy As members f a creative envirnment, students will be evaluated n their ability t be respnsible and respectful twards themselves, their classmates, their teacher, and their studi. As wrk will be dne bth independently and cllabratively, students will be assessed fr their willingness t bring curisity and mtivatin t bth f these ways f prducing. They will als be evaluated n their respnsible use f class time t develp their skills, and the care and artistic integrity brught t their prjects. Students will be evaluated n the fllwing criteria: Sketchbk practice and skill-building exercises cmpletin f art prjects participatin in critiques energectic use f class time and a steady practice f making art careful maintenance f the studi and materials respectful awareness f the needs f thers sharing the space Fllwing studi guidelines 100%-90% A 89%-80% B 79%-70% C 69%-60% D Behavir Plicy/Studi Guidelines An art studi is a place fr experimentatin and intensive fcus. At every mment it needs t be a place where we all feel cmfrtable creating. T d this fr each ther we need perate with grace, thughtfulness, and the spirit f helpful cperatin. The Fine Arts class wrks in cnjunctin with Wdside High Schl s behavir plicy and has specific added requirements due t the studi envirnment and materials that will be used: 1. Respect persnal space tuching that is nt welcmed is inapprpriate. 2. Use apprpriate language at an apprpriate vlume at all times. Peple need t fcus, and if yu are luder than hushed tnes, yu will be distracting thers. 3. Respect differences: n name-calling, put dwns r slurs. This includes language, behavirs,

r gestures that are bscene, ffensive r abusive. There will be immediate disciplinary actin fr this. 4. There will be abslutely n fd r drink r gum allwed in the studi. This is fr the sake f the materials, the studi, the artwrk, and the custdial staff. 5. Cell phnes, r gadgets f any kind are nt t be used in the studi. If there is an emergency r specific need t make a phne call r cmmunicate with a family member, students may ask Ms. Marten fr permissin. If yu need t lk at an image n yur phne fr the purpses f a prject, act Ms. Marten. 6. D nt remve any equipment r materials frm the studi withut permissin frm Ms. Marten. 7. Since we are in a very tight space, be careful nt t bump int thers with yur chair, and always push yur chairs in befre leaving. 8. Always treat yur materials and tls with care, and leave yur wrkspace and materials clean. 9. Always carefully stre yur prjects s that the wrk f thers is nt damaged. Never make marks n the wrk f ther artists, whether it is a prject f a skill building activity (unless yu are cllabrating, f curse!). If yu accidentally damaged the wrk f anther student, please aplgize and find a way t make it up t them. 10. Feedback n wrk is an imprtant part f making art, and smething yu shuld prvide with the intentin f building cnfidence and prviding cnstructive criticism. Never give critical feedback, unless smene has asked fr yur input. 11. T maintain a calm envirnment fr all, any time I ask yu t d anything (mve seats, pick smething up, r anything else!), please respectfully fulfill my request. If yu have cncerns abut it, ask me abut it ne-n-ne when a gd pprtunity presents itself. Yu may expect respect frm me, and I will expect respect frm yu. 12. When wrking utside, be particularly quiet s that ther classes are nt disturbed. While wrking in the garden, make sure t treat it gently. Our ability t cntinue wrking utside depends n every single student behaving with maturity and awareness. 13. Act respnsibly at all times s that peple can enjy the space, in rder t learn, t prduce, and create. 14. Be helpful when asked t help. 15. Wait fr the bell t ring befre leaving yur table, and enjy the rest f yur day.

Attendance Plicy The Wdside High Schl attendance plicy is fllwed in the Art Studi. Almst all f ur wrk is in class, and much f the instructin n materials and techniques require demnstratin bth fr understanding and safety. If yu are absent, yu will want t check with me in persn, at the beginning f class, t find ut hw yu can get caught up. Being n Time Given the imprtance f demnstratins in learning art and the safe handling f materials, it is crucial t be n time t class s that yu are able t participate that day. If yu are late, please ask ther students at yur table what yu have missed, and ask me fr further instructin if the wrk invlves materials that are new t yu r smething yu dn t understand. The Wdside High Schl Tardy plicy will be fllwed, s make sure yu understand it and are able t fllw the guidelines. Office Hurs I have my prep during 4th and 5 th perid, and will frequently be in my rm at Lunch. Yu are welcme t drp by during thse times, cntact me by email, r leave me a vicemail. I d nt check my vicemail frequently, s email is definitely the best way t reach me! Cntent Standards fr Visual Art Wdside High Schl ffers a cmprehensive standards-based prgram f study. Particular emphasis will be placed n the fllwing standards: 2.1 Slve a visual arts prblem that invlves the effective use f the elements f art and the principals f design. 2.4 Review and refine bservatinal drawing skills. 4.0 Respnding t, analyzing, and making judgments abut wrks in the visual arts.

I understand that during this time I must be respectful f ther classes and that failure t d s will result in lss f that privilege. 2.
