2 Art Gr INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW/PHILOSOPHY The Rutherfrd Grade 5 art curriculum is designed t cultivate within the student an appreciatin f art, an active experience in creative develpment, a means f self-expressin and the appreciatin f art f ther cultures. An envirnment is prvided t fster creative and aesthetic grwth within a prgram that allws fr flexibility. The art prgram recgnizes art as a creative, individual discipline that is an integral part f any academic curriculum in the humanities. The frmat we are presenting prvides flexibility thrugh a gruping f grade units. These units are presented in sequential rder. ART is a universal expressin f human behavir. The Rutherfrd prgram fcuses n art activities, appreciatin, experimentatin and art histry, which will teach the basic fundamentals f art. The pprtunity is ffered t express neself creatively thrugh a wide variety f art experiences. It serves as bth balance and cntrast t the mre frmal curriculum areas. Lessns will cntain cntent drawn frm the fur fundatinal art disciplines: prductin, criticism, histry and aesthetics, which will build a bdy f cumulative knwledge and skills in art that can be apprpriately evaluated. 2.
