1 AP Studi Art: Drawing, 2 D, and 3 D The AP Studi curse is a challenging and rigrus explratin f art designed fr the student wh is ready and willing t undertake the mastery f cncept, cmpsitin and executin. It is nt fr the casual artist! It will require a large amunt f time and thught fr success, much like having a part time jb. The successful student will need t be self mtivated and directed and able t wrk independently. Students are expected t expand their knwledge f prductin, thery and histry f art and becme aware f present day artistic trends and directins. They are als expected t wrk cllegially, sharing knwledge, technique, and prviding ne anther with feedback n prcess and cntent. Students in this class are duble blcked fr tw cnsecutive perids in a traditinal 7 perid day fr a ttal f 10 hurs per week in class and will be expected t spend a minimum f 6 8 hurs per week utside f class n hmewrk. Unless the enrllment warrants a separate class perid, AP Studi class time is shared with Advanced and ther upper level art classes. AP Studi Art is a full year, tw semester curse. AP prtflis are due fr adjudicatin in early May, while the curse wrk cntinues t the end f the academic year. The Arkansas Fine Arts Standards are embraced thrughut the curse. The areas f study in AP Studi Art are: Drawing, 2D Design, r 3D Design. Prtflis fllw guidelines established fr each specific area f study by the Cllege Bard. GENERAL AP STUDIO CLASS REQUIREMENTS: Students in each AP Studi area create wrk in each f the three sectins f prtfli develpment. Quality in a student s wrk that exhibits mastery f their capabilities in cnceptual, cmpsitinal and technical executin. (5 pieces f actual wrk). Cncentratin n a particular visual interest r prblem thrugh a planned investigatin resulting in a bdy f wrk that exhibits an evlutin ver time which is visually cherent. This is a student selected fcus that is explred within a plan f actin (12 pieces in slide frm). Breadth f experience in frmal, technical, and expressive directins thrugh diverse artistic experiences (12 pieces in slide frm).
2 Half f the slide requirements (12) fr the prtfli are due at the end f the first semester. The Elements f Art and The Principles f Design shuld be evident in the develpment f cnceptual appraches t cmpsitin and creative prblem slving acrss all prtflis areas. Cncentratin and Breadth will be explred cncurrently thrughut the year thrugh class wrk and hmewrk. At the beginning f the schl year, students will brainstrm pssibilities fr their cncentratin wrk. The tp 5 chices will be explred thrugh the fall semester. In the secnd semester f wrk, the cncentratin will be finalized and further deepened and explred. The 12 pieces selected fr breadth and cncentratin, as well as the 5 final selectins fr quality will be the end result f an nging, infrmed and critical decisin making prcess thrughut the curse. AP Studi students will be required t cmplete ne prject in class (100 pts) each full week f class and ne hmewrk prject (50 pts) utside f class. Each prject will invlve a self evaluatin prcess. One tw week prject may be requested frm the instructr each grading perid if the plans fr that piece require significant detail r size. Students are expected t meet the weekly class requirements culminating in at least 24 wrks f art fr the year s wrk that satisfy the requirements f Quality, Cncentratin and Breadth. Wrks created prir t and utside f the AP Studi Art Curse can be included in the final prtfli selectin. Students will use a sketchbk t recrd their n ging visual explratins and ideas fr bth class wrk and hmewrk. (30 pts/week) Each week students will research a histrical perid in art, an artist, technique r style in written frm. (50 pts) All AP Studi students will take part in 3 after schl critique sessins per grading perid. (50 pts each)
3 Students will cmplete a gallery visit with attendant dcumentatin each quarter. (50 pts each) ORIGINALITY AND INTEGRITY All wrk shuld be persnal bservatin, reflectin and explratin. Any image that is brrwed (published phtgraphs r phtgraphs taken by ther peple) shuld be expanded upn s that it significantly transcends mere cpying. A published phtgraph is a wrk f art and cpying it r any ther existing wrk f art is an infringement f the riginal artist s rights. While cpying may shw great technical skill, it falls shrt f the basic AP Studi requirements that stress persnal cnceptual and cmpsitinal develpment and technique. AP quality wrk requires technical skill, cmpsitinal strength and cnceptual develpment. COPIED WORK WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT!
4 ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION On ging evaluatin will take place in prcess with each student individually during the creative prcess. Students will be guided twards mastery in their chsen prtfli areas. Each prject and hmewrk piece is evaluated upn cmpletin using cmprehensive evaluatin rubrics. Timely cmpletin f all required wrk is expected. Summative Assessments that evaluate the prgress f wrk t that pint are made each grading perid thrugh grup critique. Students will evaluate themselves and thers n their develpment f a cnsistent fcus f study (cncentratin) and adequate prgress f technique and cntent. Prgress in written and verbal critique frmat will be required at the end f each term. Class critiques will take place at least 3 times each grading perid in a required after schl sessin. Students will learn and apply apprpriate art criticism prcesses. Students will be guided t reflect n their wn wrk and that f thers with infrmed and critical decisin making skills. STUDENT READING AND VISUAL RESEARCH Each week students will cmplete research n an artist, technique r histrical perid. Each semester students will cmplete 2 gallery visits with dcumentatin in the frm f a written art criticism r ther dcumentatin as determined by the instructr. KEY CONCEPTS Students will explre and discver histrical, cultural, scial, envirnmental, and persnal references frm which t develp cncepts & ideas. Students will use their creativity in a wide variety f media, techniques, prcesses, and tls t develp riginal wrks f art and design. Students will reflect upn, respnd t, and rediscver art f self, f thers, f envirnments, and f diverse cultures. REQUIRED SKILLS Students will: Create a bdy f cllege level wrk that shws evidence f mastery in cncept, cmpsitin and executin.
